As someone who played both Aussie rules and rugby, tackling’s about balance, footwork and timing. Concentrating on the centre of gravity of the player you’re tackling and not committing early allows more success; good tacklers stay balanced and commit when they have a high probability of success. Keeping feet moving towards the target and never stopping reduces your risk of getting faked out too.Well said.
Big apols for being a cracked record on tackling, but imo Freo players' tackling technique is woeful apart from Andy Brayshaw (also our Rising Star who does a neat minimalist arm grab). Most seem to tackle round waist or lower and it slides off like water off the proverbial.
Where are the boys going wrong?
I feel like our guys overcommit and don’t keep their feet moving enough. Still, could be worse; watching American football players tackle is cringeworthy. Do they never get taught how to do it?!?
