So, we have a winnable game coming up at the Gabba against West Coast.

Do we roll the dice on Blacky and Goose?

Who comes in, Who goes out?

Outs - Ace, Clarke, Green
Ins - Black, Maguire, Karnezis

At this early stage, that looks like a good call. Although I thought Green did alright as the sub, made a couple of poor errors but did some good things too - the club is unlikely to give him a full game off that effort though, and we don't tend to play the same sub twice in a row.

Might be time for Paparone to get a bit of a rest too. I feel like Paps for Karnezis would be a reasonable change and a bit more like-for-like.

I also can't help but feel that the coaching staff might not be too happy with Billy's lack of discipline, but we'll probably play dual ruckmen against the Eagles (assuming NicNat pulls up fine for them today).

There's also the Raines factor - we'd want to tag Shuey or Masten next weekend. Tough call atm.

Green out is very harsh. Did his part today.

Outs: Cornelius, Clarke, McGrath.
Ins: Lisle, Maguire, Black.

I did think Ace but in a better effort than he has in the past. There were a few good times when he pushed up ground, chased better and put his body on the line a bit more. But for mine, Lisle's for warrants selection.

I agree, but it's been the trend this year. The player who has been the sub has been dropped the following week.

I thought Cornelius did some nice smothers and defensive efforts, was surprised to see him get subbed so early.
McGrath did a nice job providing some run, wouldn't drop him either.

Out:
Clarke (Thought he did a commendable job, got better as the game went)
Paparone (Tackled a bit, but was pushed off the contests way too easily by the hardened Sydney bodies, think he needs a spell)
Cornelius (The substitute jinx will strike again)

In:
Maguire (Thank god he's going to be back)
Karnezis (His match winning quarter in the reserves surely deserves a senior call)
Lisle (Consistent performances in the NEAFL, and will get his go)
Raines
Black

No idea who comes out for the last 2. We missed them today.

Out -Cornelius,Bewick
In- Black,Karnezis
Cornelius had 3 touches in a half of footy. Surely he has played his last senior game.
Bewick is in the team as a crumbing forward. He has kicked 5 goals in 6 games and is flying under the radar. His effort seems ok but he is not getting results. Karnezis has earnt the right to see what he can do in that spot.

In: Black Maguire Karnezis Crisp
Out: Polkinghorne Ace Clarke Paparone(Needs a rest)

I also want and think Raines will come back in but who goes out?

It is simple - if we lose against West Coast our season is definitely over (if it isn't already).

Do we want to win or do we want to pretend we are developing kids and get thrashed again? I know that is harsh but I will keep saying it - getting thrashed does not help young players develop.

OUT
- Cornelius - 3 possessions in one half - what is frightening is that people are praising his work rate
- Paparone - if we want to win he is one of the kids that has to be dropped - we can't just gift games
- Longer - we can't afford to carry two ruckmen and Longer is not up to it yet
- Clarke - a bit harsher, but he looked fairly lost today
- Mayes - by far the harshest of all, but his inexperience means he struggles a lot with his defensive side - we desperately need experience and despite the massive upside he will obviously have in the future I think it is time to go for the W. (Thinking about it, I could be persuaded to leave Polks out instead - it is just the experience factor that I think is killing us right now).

IN
- Black - no explanation necessary
- Raines - clearly in our best 22 despite claims to the contrary
- Lisle to play Longer's role, with Leuy spending more time in the ruck
- Karnezis - need his unpredictability on the forward line
- Banfield - to help Green and Zorko out up forward

I want way more experience (my side would have 6 players with less than 25 games compared to 9 today); I also want to be much smaller and put much more pressure on in the forward line. We had 45 inside 50's to 51 today but lost by 60 points (and it could have been much worse than that).

I would take the gamble and play Lester down back on one of the Eagles talls.

Unfortunately I don't expect much of this to actually happen.

Not sure Mayes would be the one to be dropped for the inexperience factor; he's generally one of the better ball users in the team. Hopefully Matt Maguire is fit for this week. Black should come in and I think Cornelius will be out, he just goes missing far too easily.

This week we were more competitive against the Swans bar the first quarter. We won the contested possession count today which I think is a big tick - especially against Sydney at the SCG. That being Sydney were well ahead at quarter time so their work rate may have dropped off. The things that killed us were poor ball use which plagued most players bar Hanley who was good and marks inside 50 which we lost 19-4. That would be a direct result of us just bombing the ball long to a contest without assessing other options, players not getting any space eg. Leuenberger not isolating himself. The best person in the team to fix this would be Black who is still a vital midfield cog. Karnezis is a good decision maker but whether he will be picked on both his offensive and defensive game remains to be seen. Lisle for Billy might be a change that could be made but we would miss out a bit on quality hitouts, and agression and Lisle does look pretty slow.

So the best possible team picked would be highly skilled players with good desicion making skills - I'm not sure if Raines adds this so he might not be picked again.

I am sceptical that 5 changes will improve the team at all.

Regardless of talent involved

Really?

Out: Cornelius, Polkinghorne, Yeo, Longer, Paparone.
In: Ablett, Pendlebury, Swan, Buddy, Cotchin.

Ridiculous....

Clearly, you can't drop a Ruckman without including someone else to ruck....In Cox!

I was backing Leuenberger to solo ruck. After all, he's in my SC team... :P

I'd go:
Golby : Merrett : Redden
Patfull : Maguire : Lester
McGrath : Hanley : Zorko
Green : Adcock : Bewick
Longer : Black : Brown
Leuenberger : Karnezis : Maloney
Interchange: Mayes, Yeo, Paperone
Sub: Rockliff

Out: Cornelius, Polkinghorne, Clarke
In: Black, Maguire, Karnezis

If Maguire NA, Lester/Patfull to play tall and bring in another quick player. Maybe Newell?

2 things to focus on at training:
- kicking flat to a small, fast forward lead
- shepherding (we didn't shepherd AT ALL) vs Sydney

Time for Vossy to roll the dice. I guess the big defender will follow Browny to the wing, if not, he needs to go to forward square and lead from there when the ball approaches... Ie. like Lynch in twilight. Rebound when Browny at HF too easy.
Team seems to go fast handball and run through middle with Yeo, McGrath, Adcock, Hanley, Golby. The big bb at the end is an epic fail because it is repeated time and time again. Brown + resting ruck man and sometimes Ace too.

Stop the bomb!!!!

Black to ease back in.

Need a fit bloke to tag Gaff, maybe Golby?
A defensive forward to sit on Hurn, Polks or Crisp.
And an inside mid to play on Priddis, Adcock or Lester.

West Coast have struggled with quick small forwards. Could open the door for Banfield.

Bewick - has kicked five goals and averages 14.5 disposals in the first six rounds. Not good enough.
Paparone - still has a fair bit of development to go. Don't think he's ready yet.
Cornelius - may have played his last game.

IN: Black, Raines, Lisle
OUT: Bewick, Paparone, Cornelius

Black must come in next week, straight swap for Ace. Cornelius should be dropped, he worked harder up the ground yesterday, like others have said, but he's ineffective if our mids just bomb it to a contest where he is outnumbered. Doesn't suit the stupid football our midfielders are playing at the moment. Ace wouldn't have had many less touches than most of our forwards, to half time. But we were too tall. Coaching staff, stuffed that up. I don't necessarily think Raines would have helped yesterday. Our main problem was not lowering our eyes and skill errors. Both of which, Raines is prone to. I'd like to see Banfield come in. He may get the fumbles but he is quick, tries his guts out and usually finishes well.
