I don't think they can afford to play McPharlin forward against us.
If they do then it will mean Grover will have to go to one of Lloyd or Lucas.
With Laycock/Hille and Watson as other forward options, I can't see how McPharlin could play forward.

I'm thinking that McPharlin will go back to CHB to get Lucas, but if CC holds his nerve and attacks rather than has a defensive mind, he has defensive options.

Haddrill, Parker and Thornton would raffle the CHB and FB positions depending on match ups. Parker is likely to go to Lloyd and Thornton may go to Lucas.

Could Lucas go down back?.

Mcpharlin might not be needed in the backline. Fremantle's new plan is all about supply. Win the ball and deliver it into the forward line.

Shoot out. eg. Dees first, then kick a bag full against pies.

Like most games this will be won by the midfield. Get it in quick and you beat the flood. We have the cattle, pulling it off three weeks in a row is the test.

Our backline has been pretty tight. We have a player called Siegert been around a few years slips under the opposition radar. He could easily account for Lucas or Lloyd. Not mention grover, parker, haddril or thornton. and a guy named Johnson who will become a kpp foward/back.

Your trump looks like lovett-murray. Playing as a midfielder he delivers nicely and can get the ball. If Walker doesnt play this week we will have to give him to J. Carr.

Neither Melbourne or Collingwood had the ability to stack their forward line with taller forwards.
We could very easily play Lloyd, Lucas, Watson, Laycock/Hille down there. As we have at stages this season (swap Watson for Hird).

I know your backline has been in great form, but I don't think it has been tested to a large degree in the last couple of weeks. Our forward line is by no means in great form. Lucas has been outstanding, as has Laycock in the time he has spent forward. Lovett is a livewire and with Thomas likely to stay in the side, McVeigh will probably stay forward as well. On paper it looks very dangerous with four genuine marking options and two very good small forwards.

And I think your confusing Lovett-Murray with Lovett.

Lovett-Murray is another candidate to play on Pavlich, pace and leap and would free up McPhee to play his natural role. Would be a bit of a worry, but he has performed well there in the VFL and was good against Sydney.

Laycock Lloyd McVeigh
Parker Haddrill Grover
Watson Lucas Lovett
Thornton Siegert Walker

Looks a good battle.

I'm sorry but that guy knows nothing if he thinks Siegert will play CHB on Lucas. We would be given a bath.

MAtchup's as follows:

Laycock Lloyd McVeigh
Johnson Parker Grover

Watson Lucas Lovett
Thornton Haddrill Siegert/Mundy (our pacy youngen)

And there's some talk that Polak may come back into the team. McPharlin definately won't be pushed back. Unless we getting spanked by halftime and a big change is needed. Really can't see it happening.

I thought it unlikely myself. But I have only seen Freo twice this year. So i went with it.

Mundy on Lovett would certainly be exciting.

In defence of Dugrene though, he usually makes some really out of the blue suggestions. Some are great, some not so great. This would go under the not so great suggestion.

I really doubt McPharlin will go back.
I'd love to see him back there, though.

It'd mean that Freo have gone defensive, and are trying to save the match rather than win it.

I think they'd just go with poor matchups in the back half, play the ruckman back, and hope to outshoot us.

We've never had the firepower to take the bombers on offensively in the past. The bombers have had the wood over us for some time now and I think it will end this week. I don't think Fremantle are going to be happy with a hard fought win this week, the attitude has changed, I can sense a revenge fired blasting coming on! If the bombers could make a game of it I think that would be a big win for the bombers this week with their young line up.

McPharlins not as good a kick as Lloyd, but he'll still kick a bag on whoever it is you match up on him this week. The guys got some talent and is a real danger!

Here's hoping you at least make a game of it! Good luck in your rebuilding!

Thommo has to stay in. FFS he has had two chances and uve written him off already....

You say his first option is to handball, which is clear in his stats atm, 5 kicks and 19 handballs in two games shows a handball happy player but last year he was the complete polar opposite. Ive gone back an re-looked over all my stats from last years SANFL and out of the guys who averaged over 20 disposals a game (him being one) he had the highest kick to handball ratio of the lot...which just shows his confidence is DOWN right now....and thus the room for improvement as his confidence grows is massive. He def has the attributes, fully developed body etc. Has to have more chances ahead of other who have been given them and havent shown much!! He gives drive out of defence and hardens it up that is his best attribute and he can only improve.

Sorry my mistake.
Last week against Sydney it appeared as though Lovett was given some lattiude to roam. Sheedy might be grooming a pacy midfielder. One of our guys will have to shut him down. Shoot out comming up I reckon.

As for Siegert playing on Lucas he could do a servicable job (to answer other posts) the amount of ground Lucas can cover during a game we will need a run-with player with a bit of beef. Thornton too light. leaves Siegert mabey doing a swap with Grover.

Id just rather see him find his confidence at VFL level and dominate down there for two or three weeks before he gets his chance. Its very hard for a young player to find form in the AFL.
There are blokes in the VFL at the moment who have been in our best players three or four weeks running. And I speak of Monfries and Alvey. I just believe they are more deserving of a spot than Thomas.

That being said, I would like to see Paul Thomas have a big crack at Jeff Farmer.

I'd trather play Zantuck on Farmer. Imagine how nuts that would be.
That would be sensational - You would have to think they would put gloves on and go at it :D

We have a shot this weekend - only becasue Freo may start to get ahead of themselves. That said, if they come over switched on and believe they can win, we are in trouble.

Unfortunately, i agree completely with this.

As good as Lucas is and has been he hasn't been dominating in marking contests so Freo don't need to put a traditional CHB type on him anyway.

This is the team I would like to see against the Dockers.

B Johnson M.Fletcher Zantuck

HB Johnson J.Bradley Solomon

C Dyson McPhee Winderlich

HF Rioli Lucas Watson

F Allan Lloyd M. Lovett

Fol Laycock Peverill McVeigh

Int Stanton Welsh Richards Monfries

Cupes worked pretty hard defensively. Which was a definate improvement.
But like most of the side he battled through the day.

He got a little bit of the ball, but was without his usual flair. His foot skills were still way off what we expect from him. Didn't work hard enough to get position at times.

So he still has a way to go, but he is moving in the right direction.

Agreed Monfries deserves a spot, not sure on Alvey, v. good VFL player I know. Also agree re Thommo on Farmer, would be a good test for him however I think He is not the best negating player for someone like Farmer. Best leave that role to another player...but who? I'd love to see Lovett play on him and take him up the field.

Selection will be interesting this week for sure.

apart from a couple of shots at goal I thought his field kicking was fine, in fact one of the few who could spot up a forward on the day.

But I agree, definately moving in the right direction but not there yet

Yeah, sorry I probably didn't explain myself properly.
It's just when Damian Cupido grabs the ball within 60m of goal you expect him to nail it.
His field kicking was really good...his goal kicking just didn't quite as spectacular as we have come to expect.
