Nelson in for wellingham (injury concerns)

Partington in for mutimer (3 games for a kid for a taste and he can rotate back in later)

Jetta in for redden (i can't believe im suggesting this - probably more i just think it will happen) allows partington to play more mid time as he would be wasted as the 90% hf

Hutch would be close but bringing he and partington in is useless as they take each others time unless priddis mitchell masten gaff or shuey dont play.
Screw it - hutch for masten

Petrie in for McInnes

Apparently Simmo flagged up to 6 changes on the couch last night. Anyone want to take bets? I've got

IN: Nelson, Partington, Petrie, Hill, Hutchings, Mackenzie
OUT: Wellingham, Redden, McInnes, LeCras, Mutimer, Butler

Not that I think that Mutimer and McInnes deserve to be outs, but past history suggests this is the type of thing the selection committee would do. And I bet they aren't all ommissions and will have an 'injury' attached to most. Or they'll be 'managed'.

Granted, Sheed is a pretty good kick. I just don't think people realise how good Priddis has been . He has carried the midfield pretty much unassisted for years. Now that he is older/slower and possibly restricted from injury the players who should be standing up are being shown up ! Yes, Priddis isn't a match winner, but he hasn't had anyone other than Shuey (who was almost disgraceful against the Dons) to lighten the load.
He was fantastic in 2015 and 2016, with a ball winning ability and an ability to be generally one touch and had a good handball.

At the moment he's not winning any contested ball, he's fumbling and his disposal is shocking. I don't know if he's still suffering from the back surgery in preseason or if time has caught up with him - as you said he has been at the coal face carrying our midfield for almost 10 years now.

People want him out because his form is terrible, not because he's always been a shit player.

Yes, Shuey's poor game has pretty well gone unnoticed. In particular when Danaher kicked his fourth I think with that rover's snap. Shuey fumbled the ball, saw Danaher ahead of him and hesitated or pulled up. Not a good look.

Yes, that was cringeworthy. It was at that moment I knew 100% we weren't coming back.

Happened right in front of me, was extremely soft , and then you notice how Tipungwuti was 10x harder than any Eagles player and the effect it had on the result. Players like Wellingham need to be replaced with Nelson and Masten with someone who can stick tackles and can win one on one contests...
There's already been too many examples of this in big games...the last 3 times against Hawks.

Like the idea of Partington but his not quite ready yet.

Wins the ball a truck load as a premium mid at East Perth but the big weakness is his disposal efficiency.

That's what has held him back from an Eagles debut so far and will keep holding him back till he can sharpen it up.

Haggers talking up a Partington debut this morning...we shall see.

GWS might not be a bad debut for Parto. GWS mids are classy and quick but they aren't real maulers (like Norf or Melbs) that would abuse him physically.

If Simpson has flagged up to 6 changes I figure we might see 4.

Out: Mutimer, Wellingham, McInnes, Redden
In: Parto, Nelson, Petrie, Hutch

I hate our MC. With the East Perth bye we will stuff up the management of guys like Hill too who won't have played footy for 2 weeks by the time they are next looked at.

Been defending Lecra for a while and think its time to be dropped to the WAFL for a few weeks and change up the forward line dimensions a bit.

Out: Lecra , Wellingham ( Inj), Mcinnes, Redden, Butler
In: Karps, Nelson, Petrie, Parto, Jetta

Hurn Barrass Shep
Yeo Gov Mitchell

Masten Sheed Gaff

Karps Petrie Darling
Cripps JK Jetta

Ruck: Vardy Shuey Duggan

Bench: Priddis, Mutimer, Partington , Nelson

- Karapny and Jetta to add some pace to the forward line. Jetta as a Wing rotation and like to see Karps in the mid rotation. Yes Jetta hasn't set the world on fire but on the weekend he helped turn the tide in that game in the WAFL and if he can back that sort of effort up it will be better than what Lecra is producing.

- Petrie in over Mcinnes is no a brainer as he is a better forward so i would like to see him play CHF with stints in the ruck.

- Partington i think should just be given a shot, Duggan wasnt all that convincing before he got the call up earlier this year so lets just give him a shot and see how he goes.

- Nelson is a must as we missed his campaigner ways.

- Mitchell to play more down back like he did at the hawks last year.

I'll put my changes in before Thursday but what I DON'T want to see is Mutimer dropped and Hill back.

Hutchings for Redden needs to happen as well and Nelson for Butler.
I know he is young but Mutimer is not cutting the mustard ATM. Hill is usually good for two goals from nowhere. Are we going for a high finish or just messing around? If it's a 'development year' then play Mutimer although he's not a hff. I would rather see Karpany in that position. Mutimer kicked a good goal against PA but hasn't looked like it since.

I watched Mutimer at training over about 3 sessions and the goal kicking set shot drill. He was rubbish. His kicking style is flawed when taking set shots and he was less that 40% chance from about 35 to 40 mtrs at a pretty decent angle. Others around him were around the 75% conversion and he was not getting annoyed at his inaccuracy. Not sure of where he was kicking from at EP but his WC misses have been from pretty stock standard places.

Accuracy (goals.points)
2016 EP 2.4 (Reserves and League)
2017 EP 3.3
2017 WC 1.2 (not including the one he couldn't kick make from the 45m on Sunday)

Total WC and EP is 6.9. He is not a HFF. His junior football was more on-baller and HBF

Barrass walked into training with strapping on his lower leg , bit pedantic but might be rested for Mackenzie or Schofield , hasn't been the same player recently Barrass , but its a tough competition to keep up high standards in .

If Barrass is to go out then I'd bring in Schofield over Mackenzie.

After all, Schofield and Gov were our key backs in the Grand Final year.

We put young mids onto the HFF and let them wither. It's just how we roll at West Coast.

Mutimers biggest problem so far is his tank. He just needs to get fitter for AFL level so he can run both ways better. He has been getting to pretty good spots offensively and looks like he has a pretty decent handle on using his body in the contest. He has looked slow running defensively, which I think has been compounded a bit by learning the role and the extra defensive pressure that forwards need to apply at AFL level. I think this will improve with more experience to judge when to follow your man vs occupying space. Giving your opponent a 4-5m headstart is going to make you look like treacle if your man gets possession.

I think another pre-season under his belt will help him a lot and let him get onto the ball for more minutes. He had 2 centre clearances and a stoppage clearance vs Essendon which was a fair effort in a shellacking from a kid.

If they don't do so already, East Perth should give all of our young mids plenty of game time as half fowards, particularly if they're close to selection. That way they don't play for West Coast as first time forwards.
