What I've realized is that after all this time we've had it in the back half over these past two years, we've had good practice defending. ;)

Overall, we're not going as badly as we thought we would. But in the end, it looks like a bunch of NEAFL players trying to juuusttt keep up with AFL. Given the team that's playing though, not surprised.

Bar our few senior players that are there, of course. ;)

Jeremy Taylor looking done. Not showing anything on form, but who have we got left to play? :(

I know it would make no difference to the final result, but just one 50:50 free our way before the end of the season would be joyous
The free against Brennan in the ruck?
Just one of many I have to endure on a weekly basis.

Steven May showing a bit as a forward. Doing ok so far considering the circumstances. That said, I can't wait until it's us dealing out the punishment.

One of our best quarters of footy all year
Can we maintain the pressure for another?
History says no, but gee with 17 players off on the injured list this is a super effort
There is no doubt GAJ is the Best and Fairest player in the AFL
Unfortunately it's judged as the best player at the club that wins enough games to justify 3 votes

A really good effort by the Gold Coast tonight. Despite the adversity they are facing, they won the quarter and look like the only team out there that wants to play. Hawthorn have been simply insipid and are embarrassing themselves. Gold Coast are doing themselves proud. May, Warnock, Matera and Bennell all giving it a red hot go. Ablett.

I'll add in the free against Fish Matera in the 3rd quarter
Umpire pays an in the back after the Hawthorn player intentionally pushes the ball over the line
Situation reversed...free against us no doubt

Ah well. Still a better result than what I was expecting, given our outs. How much different would the result be if we had Swallow, Prestia, Day, Bock, McKenzie, etc.

Coad will be lucky to play another AFL game. Just looks off the pace when defending. Not bad offensively though. Would have rather played Schade though. McQualter operating at NEAFL speed still. But given he wasn't brought on to play these games, won't hold it against him. Just have to scrape the barrel I guess!

Really happy with the effort for the first 3 quarters. Guys looked shot in the last.

We were screwed by the umpires (again). Unbelievably inconsistent. How long were Hawks players allowed to hang onto the ball when tackled - unbelievable.
And **** you Anthony Hudson - there were two teams out there. Stop sucking Dunstall's dick all game. What an annoying little twat.
Dunstall is usually fair when he calls our games but he shouldn't be allowed to call Hawthorn games - it was all about how poor Hawthorn were, and no credit to how well our boys played for 75% of the match. Frawley unusually gave us some credit.
Steven May - breakout game?

Good game from you guys! Umpiring was appalling. Even with all those injuries you guys played quite well and should hold your heads high.

It's a weird feeling when a 10 goal loss can considered to be a 'good' result. But if you had asked me for it at the beginning of the game, I would have taken it. I don't really think that it shows how much we were in the contest. Right until the fourth quarter we were competitive I thought, which is saying something given the team we put out on the park. I could have sworn I was watching a 2s game with some of the players involved. McQualter to Magin, or Coad up to Flanagan.

I said at the start of the week that the best thing we could do from here on out is just see moments from fringe players that give us hope. Well, May obviously took that crown today. Not since Bock have I seen any of our forwards get long leads and then proceed to kick the goal. He's also got quite a bit of size on him compared to Day and Lynch, no doubt helping him out there. Obviously all that time at FB has really taught him when to lead and when to not, something that Day and Lynch are still adjusting with.

Staggering to think just how quickly we fell away. We only got 2 clearances or I50s or some crazy low stat like that in the fourth quarter. If we had kept up our midfield strength, how far would May have progressed?

Coad and McQualter were the let-downs for me, but they were only brought in to fill the numbers, so won't really bother ragging on them. ;)

Toy I noticed got his token 2 handballs that I saw, and looked a step behind in most contests. Not good enough, even if you only played 1 quarter.

Warnock outstanding. On the end of some extremely bad calls though.

Coad was busting his gut, but he over ran the ball/ball-carrier TOO many times. Was frustrating to watch.

Warnock was great, Toy's 3 possessions must be a new PB, Umpires were a bit 'ehh', Commentators even more so.

All in all, not a bad result considering the circumstances.

I've been stuck at work all day.

Did Magin do enough to survive this years cull?

I see he got a couple of goals so must have been doing something right.

Cheers

All things considered it was a fair result with some good effort until they tired in the last. Having said that I'm starting to wonder if lynch can mark the ball at all, numerous times he was completely open and dropped it cold.

Josh toy is terrible.
