Great speech too. I noticed when he started his speech a couple of players laughed after his first line, as in expecting him to make a joke, but he was full serious - about how they'd been in hell that week etc. he was all about the team, didn't say anything about himself. Very happy to see that.

the boys were also pretty jovial at the announcement too. Considering where the team is at, Matho must be a pretty popular bloke already. How could you not love the charming little bugger?!
 
There's always sliders picked up later in the draft that turn into crackers. You get that feeling that Matheison could be one of those guys all the clubs wonder why they passed on him. Hopefully anyway.

Well, I for one am absolutely thrilled to see Rhys get the nod. I was super impressed by him in the nab cup. He shows plenty of ticker. Hopefully a few other can join him in the respect this week.

I remember the year prior to the 2010 draft a certain midfielder was talked up as a potential first rounder and then his stocks began to slide closer to the draft due to being too inside and ending up at the swans at pick 40... Not saying Mathieson will be as good of course but I don't see any reason why he can't be..

Loved his speech in that video, even with a few teammates clearly having a laugh at him he said what he wanted to say and hopefully other players took something out of it. Just the sort of thing you want from your young players.

Haha, you know I was actually going to use Parker as a reference, but I didn't want people to think I was comparing them as players or something.

I think there are a few obvious differences but he's every bit as hard at the ball as Parker which will see him become a 100 game player at worst which you can't knock at pick 39 anyway. Iron out a few of his issues (which he has the work ethic to do) and he'll be a star.
 
No idea who comes in for Gardiner. Can we just forfeit? -.-
