Read what I said again. I'm not actually calling for Kepler to be played there.

All I'm saying is we mark Ryder too easily and Kepler too harshly.

Kep never stood a chance.

Keps turnovers and decision making didnt help his cause, he also didnt show any signs of improvement. None of which are his fault because he's never played in defense and he also isnt suited to that spot.

None of them are in Ryder/Bradley's height bracket.

What's Reiwoldt, 192-193cm's?

Franklin would be the closest, he's in that freak category as well.

Richardson is 197cms, Mitch clark 198, Gehrig 195cms. Anybody chosen to play in the Key back spots now needs to be a power athlete. Football ability
seems to be a secondary consideration to raw speed and a great motor.

Ryder isn't going to play out his career as a defender anyway.

I agree, i see an adam goodes type role for him as he would be wasted in a set position. His improvement in one year has been stunning from his ability to fit in as a defender to changing his body shape.

Bradley had troubles as a backman because he was a 19 year old playing on 25-30 year old stars of the game.

If Kep was playing in Ryder's role right now, I'm sure we'd all have a different opinion of him.

That's why I said half, but his lack of pace hurts for the role regardless of experience imho.

I think I'm just about the only poster on here that doesn't think that highly of Jay Nash. I thought he was very average against Sydney, in fact I'd take Dyson's game against Richmond ahead of it.

Nash hasn't shown me anything in three years at the club.
He's got one more year to show that he deserves to be retained on the list.

Gets an easy ride from supporters.

Key defense, no.

Third tall, who knows. We never had a chance to find out.

195 must be the new 197.

Mitch Clark is another in the Ryder category. He could very well end up a ruckman as well.

Glass and Rutten don't have raw speed. Not like Ryder does.

Agree.

But they are very quick over the first 10-15 metres which keeps them in the contest. They are also both very strong, very rarely do those guys get done in a one on one push and shove.

Nash had come off one game for Bendigo were he didnt even play a full game. He has had pretty much no pre-season at all where as Dyson has and is still putting in disapointing games and hasnt ever strung 4-5 good games in a row where as Nash did that last year. Its all about Nash getting fit and running into form which im confident he'll be able to do in the next couple of weeks. Who else do we have to replace Stants? pretty lean picking other than Ricky and Nashy atm. Btw is Reimers any chance of being a suprise selection? from what i've heard his form has been solid at Bendigo.

Fair enough point in regard to having no pre-season but that to me is only an excuse. He should only be played when what he's done this year surpasses anything that Ricky has done this year. So far, he hasn't done that.

Nash was solid for that period at the end of last year but there is nothing to say he'll do that again. He's had a good period once, there's no confirmation in that that he'll do it again. Look at Jonathan Brown, his form for the first half of last year was incredible, once of the best form periods I've ever seen from a player. This year it's been a long way off that standard.

Other than Dyson and Nash there's Chris Heffernan and Richard Cole as well as the young guys; Houli, Hislop and Jetta. There's plenty fo teams with less to pick from.

Hardly, this time last year after the crows and the geelong game most people on here were rubbishing him.

Only a few on the Nash bandwagon then. ;)

Wasnt until after the saints game that people started to change their opinion of him.

Give Nash an extended go and see what he does. He's played 10 games. His first 4 opponents were Buckley, Stevens, Ricciuto and Chapman.

If he doesn't show much I'll change my username

After watching training to day i still hold huge doubts that Stants will play. He wasnt moving very well at all. Ran in straight lines only, hardly kicked a footy and had several conversations with the Doc.
Everyone else looked ok including Fletch and Slatts.
