I'd give Young a full game, has earned it.

He has earned it, but I just doubt his ability to play a full game. I think he played so well Saturday strictly because of his position as sub, he just seems like one of those players who will always be good in that position, but I have doubts he'll ever elevate to being able to bring it all four quarters.

If that's the case, we may as well delist him.

Young has shown he's more than capable at AFL level. He should be consolidating his spot at AFL level but has floundered this year like every other fringe player. He's earned another opportunity, time for him to take it and hold his spot.

Monfries surely has to go. Would give a chance for Impey to play up forward and actually give him a role.
Monfries will not be dropped. This is not an opinion, just a clear statement of fact. Players who are paid $400K a year simply do not play SANFL however much they deserve it. In my opinion dropping him to the SANFL for a few weeks may get him back to the ball-hungry forward player we need but I cannot see that happening. I expect Monfries to play that defensive forward role on Gwilt this week.

Unless the the AFL allow Indian giving i cant see Gwilt playing for Essendon last week and St Kilda this week. His defensive forward role will be on a Roberton/Gilbert.

There is more than one exception, and most are with Victorian clubs. But for us apart from K.Cornes in the Primus years I can't recall a recent experienced player who was dropped to or came back after injury through the SANFL. Broadbent this year was dropped but did not play SANFL.

Broadbent also said he needed a mental and physical rest.

Also no SANFL games that weekend, bit hard to play if there is no game.

I don't care if you are on 400k or 1.2m a year. If you aren't performing, you get dropped.

Sick and tired of gold card carrying players.

If the Hoon was dropped you'd have to ask some real questions of the selection panel. The kid's composure, ability to find time and space, and then most of the time hit the target, is outstanding for a kid basically in his 2nd season. The negativity around him is so incredibly unjustified it isn't funny. Just because he is small doesn't mean he can't play. Hoon has 200 gamer written all over him and it's time to get some games into him. The kid has been averaging 20+ disposals at SANFL level from day 1, and shown some great glimpses at AFL level. With more time and experience he will only get better.

Hoon for Pittard for me. Hoon was okay, but Pittard offers way more. Play Jasper on the wing this week.

Hoon is providing far too much space and options to be dropped. I would roll Impey back to his normal role (he's failed terribly everywhere else) and drop O'Shea. Clurey, Hombsch, Trengove perfect for Riewoldt, McCartin and Bruce.

If Monfries happens to get dropped and I hope he doesn't but if he does I'd like to see Gray come in. Too much pressure was put on Gray early to be something he wasn't, he plain and simple couldn't provide the speed we Neaded. With Gray not playing alongside Monfries we aren't exactly going to be too slow. It would be an ultimatum game for Gray and a wake up for Monfries. If Gray can't play as forward/mid in a spot where we can cover his speed better with Neade already in the team then he is completely non-viable.

Butcher!!

I am not sure how much longer we can keep Jarman Impey in the side.

Young is like Andrew Moore, he plays AFL footy at SANFL pace. I have more time for Young than Moore but realistically I do not think either player will make it. Maybe it is finding a position for these two but so far neither has really fired. I realise that guys like O'Shea and Pittard have their critics but at least they have impact in some games but unfortunately Young and Moore never ever seem to get there.

S Gray was crap along with every other Magpie player yesterday

Monfries has been worse in the last 2 weeks. I was praising him earlier in the season for shutting down murphy and smith in our wins but now, maybe because of the inclusion of neade he has been playing much, much further up the ground nowhere near goals. He's not quick enough to keep up with oppositions half back flankers/quick wingman, doesn't has barely any hurt factor with the ball and doesn't tackle as much as he could. Ken subbing him off has major alarm bells ringing. he won't be sub because as we know he doesn't impact so he's pretty much out.

Not saying S Gray can do all of what is mentioned above but he would make a better sub in terms of energy and as previously stated in this thread ken will reward players with form. Gray has had 2 30 disposal games in a row with defensive efforts as shown through his tackle numbers, named bog in the previous game, doesn't matter how crap you think he is, if buddah says that he peformed well he is getting a game much like how Mitchell was picked when he had the crazy statistical game a few weeks back. .
