Bastinac had a game against Kerr didn't he? Kept him to two disposals in the first half of that game. What's Colyer's defensive game like? Could match him for speed and agility.

Can't see Welsh doing the job on Kerr..
Are we thinking of the same guy?
Colyer, the 52kg bantamweight winger.
Kerr, the little Indian psycho.
Kerr would throw him off time and again. Colyer would have no influence and would be robbed of any opportunity to run and create (which is his main job and biggest assett).
Welsh on Kerr. He's the tagger. Kerr's the target.
If not him, then Slatts who's done a number on him before or Hocking.

Kerr will be way to quick for Welsh you would have thought, but Welsh did a good job on Ablett in the first quarter of the Cats game so hmmm, don't know. I'd be happy for Watson to go head to head with Priddis.

I only see one out and one in, that being Lonergan out and Hurley in. Lonergan plays with a lot of heart, but we won't lose any running ability with Lonergan going out and Hurley coming in. I know that Houli has his faults with his hospital handballs, but I think we will really need his run on the big Subi oval.

Just been thinking how we should line up against the Eagles and this is what I've come up with:

FF: Williams, Ryder, Reimers
HF: Hurley, Gumbleton, Zaka
C: Melks, Watson, Winders
HB: Dyson, Hooker, Dempsey
FB: Slattery, Pears, Fletcher
R: Hille, Stanton, Welsh
INT: NLM, Hocking, Colyer, Houli

I'd play with dual CHF's in Hurley and Gumbleton, with instructions to Gumby to get on his bike and lead hard up to the wings, leaving Hurley to roam around the 50 arc. The oval is so long that you could need two marking targets and having an outlet mark on the wing in Gumby is going to be crucial.

Glass is out of form and I think that Ryder could take him to the cleaners one on one in the 50 arc, with Williams or Reimers sharking around his feet. I feel that Williams could have a big game at Subi if we can get some clean ball into the forward line as well.

I like the match up of Hooker on Kennedy as he has the motor to go with him and Fletcher can take Naita when he is up forward. I'd give Slattery first crack at LeCras because if Fletcher goes to him, he will go to the midfield which killed us last year.

Hille must rest on the bench this week and not up forward as we are going to need a four quarter effort from him.

I like the look of that team. I'd say NLM would be a starter ahead of Melksham or Dyson and I would swap Riemers and Zaka but otherwise that looks strong.

This is the best chance we'll have of an interstate win this year so hopefully they can come out ready to play. A win here will give a lot of confidence ahead of Collingwood and Hawthorn.

I think we had a pretty open forward line against the Blues. For me it looked mostly something like this...

HF:---Gumby----Ryder----
------------Reimers-------
FF:---------Williams------

I reckon Knights has realised that with our gameplan we must play an extra defender and have that other forward push right up the ground. Dare I say it, but the worst performer of those 4 was Ryder :o

But he won't be dropped so I don't know how Hurley will mix in. Still prefer to see him come in for Lonergan.

Lonergan and Zaka spent time through there as well, mainly when Paddy went to the ruck. I thought Paddy took some good marks and also managed a few times to lock the ball in when they dropped Waite and Thornton onto him 2-out.

Just quietly - Willo has been copping the 1st defender (Taz, Jamieson, Scarlett) each week. Hurley and Paddy will be alternating copping 2nd defenders. And GUmby will spend half the year running around with a 3rd liner on him.
Any time Gumby has a bit of form, that'll force them to pay less attention to Hurley or Willo or Paddy, and vice versa.
If Gumby comes on in any way, shape or form, we will have a deadly attack in a year.

Seriously, which one of our defenders is going to be carved up on Subiaco this week against one of their struggling B-grade forwards?

It's an annual event at Subiaco.

People are still raving about Natanui's performance against us in the NAB Cup, but fail to recognise that we did not play our top 2 ruckman in Hille & Ryder that evening...

I think Knights may throw up a curve ball in selection this week and bring Atkinson into the side. He has shown a liking to subiaco in the past and apparently was reasonable in the 2's last week.

In: Hurley, Atkinson
Out: Lonergan, Hocking (unlucky horses for courses)

Hocking has been close to our best in the last three matches...

In: Hurley, Howlett
Out: Lonergan, Winderlich

Also, I have a feeling that Gumbleton will fire like we've never seen him before in this match at Subi.

Lynch and Hansen are out I think?
Kennedy is their only tall then right?

Nope. Lynch played WAFL last week and will probably be recalled to stretch us and play his best game of the year.

Hansen has been next to hopeless this year, but expect him to also play a blinder.

Kennedy will also probably pull a couple out of his you know what as well...

Not to mention LeCras who we can never find a competent opponent for...

Oh, and I forgot McKinley... who will probably come back into the side and as usual play his 1 good game a year against us...

:thumbsd:

We're not world-beaters ourselves, but sick of making West Coast look good every year we play them at Subiaco. Time to grind them into the dirt.

Anyone who suggests Atkinson should be carded - he is a horrible footballer.

I have wondered why the likes of Andrew Walker & Mackie (can't recall Freo opponent) have lined up on Gumby when bigger, more competent defenders were available. I think it's possibly due to opposition coaches recognising Gumby's athleticism as a strength more so than his contested marking? This is where he can really cause headaches later in the year once he is 100% confident with his hands..... who would be a natural match up for him? Hooker is the only one that comes straight to mind :D

They gave him the third man cos they didn't think he'd be as dangerous, and largely they've been right.
Getting better with every game IMHO and will be bloody hard to stop in full flight.

In: Hurley
Out: Slattery

Especially if Fletch can go to Le Cras, i see no match up for Henry.
And if Fletch can't go to Le Cras for some reason, i really don't want Slattery on him anyway!
