Early week thoughts;

In: Seedsman, Kennedy, Gault

Out: Sidebottom, Oxley, Ramsay

Seedsman replaces Oxley, along with Langdon can play as a medium defender. Adelaide have a plethora of dangerous smalls and I think we have them well covered with Sinclair, Williams and Seeda hence why Ramsay is surplus to requirements this week.

Kennedy is the Sidebottom replacement, however the likes of Elliot and Fasolo will have to step up as well.

Also I like the idea of Gault coming in and playing Full-forward/Ruck. It allows Trav and White to go roaming up field where they both seem to thrive and importantly it gives Grundy a chop out in the ruck and allows White to play permanent forward.

Personally I think we're in for a hard time Saturday, will need Adams to keep an eye on Danger in the middle and Toovey when he roams up forward. Cloke against Talia and Frost against Walker will go a long way to deciding the game if we can somehow split the contested footy/clearances...

Why do people want Gault, I thought our forward line and ruck worked well against Brisbane... Gault really is not a good player.
Because Grundy had to ruck solo last week with minimal help from White, and was knackered after the first half. Having Gault in not only gives us another player that can play through the ruck to ease Brodie's load, but it will stretch Adelaides relatively small defence having that extra tall who is capable of taking a contested mark.

I've been a critic of Gault for a few years now, and was calling to delist him in 2013, but even I can admit he's made significant progress over the preseason. He deserves to be given a chance.

Never knew we had two travis cloke! ;)

Wonder why he has struggled so much in the VFL then o_O

How many reasons do you want?
Injury: he's come back from at least one LTI
Age: Until he was 16-17 he was a midfielder, then a radical growth spurt took him to 199cm in 6months and he had to learn to play in all sorts of different positions?
Experience: In the VFL he played mainly as a KPD....lots of guys look stupid when they're played out of position

He's starting to regain confidence and has a heap of potential. A fit, confident 200cm forward who can also take a turn in the ruck...they grow on trees I spose?

Can understand why they're confident this week. Im usually an optimist but even I can't see how we will win this.

I'll still be there regardless but im more hopeful of a win than expecting one.

Round 3 2012 Carlton (against us) looked like a contender too... a lot can change!

Of course, but Carlton never had the A-graders across the park that Adelaide have, nor did they have a solid defense. As I said, "I know it's just one game"... But that's the only sample we have and they utterly demolished a top 4 contender in one of the most impressive performances in recent years.

I think we need to replace a running player (Steele, our best) with another runner. We struggled to run the game out on Saturday and including Gault and PK won't help that. I think we probably need to include one of the mids for Steele at the very least.
Yeah that could be the case but I think neither Broomy or PK are the elite runners like Steele. Both have shown they can run through the midfield and rack up possies, PK did that in his last NEAFL season. So both can bring some run to the team. Be interesting who is picked. Dwyer and BenKen also in the mix

I think they have good reason to be unfortunately. Can't see us winning this one.
I'm confident that if the Crows play as well as they did against the Roo's we can beat you guys, but I'm still nervous. We saw over the Sando years that we could beat a good side one week and then turn up the next week looking completely disinterested and lose a game we could win.

You guys may have been a bit unlucky in that you never went against the "other" Crows, but if they turn up this week it could get ugly for us.

86 metres gained from a player of his caliber was massive for us! On the back of that Adams receiving a job on one of their ball winners becomes crucial. To my ins and outs.

In: Broomhead & Gault
Out: Sidebottom & De Goey

From what you see and hear De Goey isn't yet able to run out a full game so he'd be the starting sub automatically again which doesn't benefit anyone, IMO. I think the extra tall gives us further potency forward of centre and gives us an avenue to exploit the Crows because their mids (with Steele out) and forwards look to have us outgunned. I'd also look to use one of Ramsay or Oxley as the sub.

I think the key for us is to continue to lower our eyes entering F50 because that's the way we're going to score this year. A mix of Gault, Cloke, White, Elliott and Fasolo hitting the scoreboard whilst we contain their midfield might get us over the line, but this is going to be extremely tough at Etihad.
We have good small and medium defender depth , I'd be going tall at etihad. We have talia and unproven hartigan then Cheney ... Talia will cover cloke, you need multiple tall options to play through. If Brown's corkie doesn't come up Elliott will be a massive danger but we still have jaensch laird and Cheney to cover smaller types. But if Cheney is req to play tall then opens door for Elliott ....I'd play Gault for sure . This is a 50-50 game , I'm no more confident than that

86 metres gained which made him 357th in the AFL - However, 545 metres gained assisted (by team mates after his disposal) 2nd in the AFL… Stats can and always are deceiving mate and can always paint whatever picture the author wants them to paint, whether that author is supporter, player, commentator or coach!

I think we should be patient with guys and give them an extended run in the seniors if possible. Barring injuries or real poor form in seniors and real good form at VFL I'm reluctant to make changes after one game.

I can't comment as I didn't see the game but I would stick with Ramsay and Oxley another week and replace Sidey and any other injuries we may have picked up.

Would like to see one of Karnesis or Gault added to the forward line this week if Witts is left out again, with cloke playing at CHF it gives us one more mid to tall forward option

Yes Gault has a long history of never letting us down in the one senior game he has played.

You can't judge him on what he hasn't done! 1 for 1 is good enough :P

I understand your skepticism of him but we need to give him opportunities this year when he's deserving (and I believe he is atm with Witts still out) so we can truly know whether to keep or de-list him at the end of this season.

He's certainly no superstar but I can pretty easily envisage him being a 40+ goal a season forward, just as easily as I can envisage him not being on our list at the end of this year.

It will interesting to see if we bring in both witts and reid against adelaide this week

White is barley a Ruckman like Dawes was.

Gault can play some Descent Time in the Ruck and be Okay

Your logic is as flawless as your knowledge about Gault.

Must've missed the multiple senior games he has played..
Your knowledge of him doesn't seem to be too great either. He actually played really well in the VFL last season after being moved from defence (where he was hopeless) to playing as a forward/ruck. He had a largely interrupted season due to injury, but he made really solid progress in the twos, and judging by his preseason form, has continued to do so.

As I said earlier, I'm not his biggest fan, but he deserves the opportunity and is a good fit in terms of team balance, at least until Witts returns at this stage.
