I'm with Avalor, we shouldn't hold Yeo's midfield progression back because of eMac and Brown's injuries. We'd be better off blooding Barrass and allowing Yeo to develop in the middle.

Simmo was my choice as coach but if we get to the middle of the year and nothing has changed in the middle, I will want the back of him. Time to try some different combinations.

Maybe we could have been more aggressive with seeking trades for the tried and tested players that continue to let us down i.e. Masten. I want Simpson to have the gall to drop Masten for Duggan and give Sheed Priddis's middle time.

I think people forget that you can't simply cobble together some kids and hope they develop. You do need some senior blokes to cop some hits and shepherd these blokes in.

The complete gutting like Melbourne did - doesn't work.

I agree with Masten and the reality is he plays on the wing. I'd prefer him on a half forward - his kicking to a lead is good.

Sheed barely got any midfield time first half. When he did in the second half he showed more than those who normally get it all.

Yes it may happen but they will have to work bloody hard there is no chance in hell Mcgovern Hurn Sheppard Yeo Ellis Bennell Butler or any other person down there is going to leave a backman out to dry. In reality, when was the last time our senior players laid shepherds? It's not a common occurrence, it's one thing that really irks me about the modern Eagles (albeit they are not alone with this) no sacrifice for your mate.

I don't think anyone is questioning the skill of our back line, it's more the size and strength that is a worry. The only player who would even have a chance against someone like Hawkins 1v1 in a wrestle would be Hurn.

One way to fix Sheed's game low DE rate from the Bullies game, is to push him into a 100% inside mid role at the coalface, not!

Unfortunately Priddis isn't going anywhere with our current line up and Sheed only option at this time is as the sub.

I didn't actually mean shepherd in terms of football

Just rather - if we threw a team of Duggan/Sheed/Yeo/Newman/Nelson/Maginness et al into the midfield and dropped Priddis/Wellingham/Masten/Selwood etc I don't think we are going to see great development in those kids

Rather we are more likely to get burn outs like Trengove,Grimes etc Roos has identified this and got triers like Cross into the side to cop some hits

Watching Brad Hill today and thinking of his first year. He would smash quarters and then go missing as he simply couldn't sustain it. He is getting to the point now where he can.

I agree the midfield has to change and hopefully that occurs - I just don't see value in making it happen overnight

Not if they're one out on a lead, or alone in the goal square in a marking contest. If I was the opposition coach and I had Hurn on my second KPF I would isolate them in the goal square.

If Mcgovern is 1v1 in goal square vs sandi i guarantee yeo or ellis will be there within seconds.

Surely College will get a game this week i mean what more do you have to do, I think college has turned the corner and could come good for us he's put alot of muscle on and looks in ripping condition, If it's at the expense of Sheed then so be it they both could play a big part of our midfield in years to come as long as we keep blooding them

lol. Colledge is a wingman, not an on ball player at AFL level. He's a passenger at the stoppages, and is still a few years away in terms of matching strength with the leagues best.

I'm quite worried that Simmo will be prioritizing the back line. To the point where there wont be a shake up and we will see the same line up in the guts every week. Anyone feeling the same?
