What aspect?

That he's slow?
That he doesn't kick long?

That he's a high kick and high mark midfielder, who lacks influence at stoppages even at WAFL level?

I'm not ruling out Colledge, he's young and developing. But he's not going to succeed as on on baller at AFL level with his current clearance game and his outside game doesn't get him games alone.

If he turns into a clearance machine, then this would be a different scenario but he's not on current form. At the moment I think he could be a poor mans Brad Ebert, only slower and with less depth on his kicks.

I didn't say he did any of this, I stated he's turned a corner i know him personally , he's more dedicated and putting in more work then ever hence turned the corner, I think he's coming good

And on that note, Ebert struggled to impose real influence against Freo even with depth on his kicking. Was only used as a link-man yesterday, had no influence at the contests.

I'm happy to back Gaff and Masten in, but we need a third and fourth outside type who compliments their accumulation with line-breaking speed and can either pinch hit in the guts or off a flank. Colledge won't be the answer unless he can improve upon what Masten and Gaff are already offering (and I feel Gaff still has a way to hit his ceiling).

I don't think we'll see changes to the midfield this week. Simpson has just put 4 months of work into this group over the preseason so I don't think he's going to throw that out after round 1 even if they were disappointing as a collective. At some point he's going to run out of patience with players not meeting his expectations or come to the realization that they just aren't up to it but that point wasn't reached last weekend

Happy for him to give them a chance to atone. Understand why others here aren't

I feel honour bound to say this: isn't Brad Ebert the poor man's Brad Ebert?

Butler was conspicuous in laying shepherds and blocks in Saturdays game but posters on here just don't see it
That's one bloke, and yes, it's generally the same guy/s (if indeed there is a plural that do this) so it's still not a team thing. As I said, the Eagles aren't alone in their avoidance of the blocks and shepherds, it's more normal to not see it done at AFL level than to see it done.

Why do you think that is? Fear of MRP?

Insufficient number of tinnies before bouncedown?

Ins: Schofield, Ellis
Outs: Brown, Nelson

Feel Simmo will go for experience to try and get the W on board for season 2015. We all want to see the young guys, but we have to give the coaching staff the benefit of the doubt. They'll play when they're ready. Our midfield is very hot and cold, sometimes the issues look overstated, other times they clearly look like a liability. Most of these players are at the stage of their career where consistency shouldn't be an issue...just gotta see what happens. I feel Simmo won't hesitate to swing the axe and bring in some players with hunger though.

Going into Rd 1, 2015 our brilliant new coach thought it would be great idea to have 3 players playing negating roles, McGinnity, Selwood and Wellingham.
How about actually trying to take the game on with skill and flare, that's what we want to see, not some nuff nuff trying to stifle the opposition, that's rubbish.
Watching Bennell playing for East Perth using his speed to dodge and weave through traffic was brilliant, but he should have been doing it for West Coast on Saturday night at the Dome!
We don't need shut down players, we need win the ****ing game players, let other teams worry about us.

The reality is we don't have those players.

Who was Wellingham negating? Didn't pick that up on the telly.

2 or 3 changes.

Schofield is the front runner he said.

Ellis will play if fit enough you'd think.

Colledge, McInnes or Duggan the other candidates. Maybe Bennell.

Which mid would we drop?
Duggan for Masten imo masten panic hand balls etc... duggan wont

Pretty sure there'd be a rule that prevents players running out on the field with a flare

Colledge had 37 possessions and 3 goals. I don't recall any Eagle ever getting that kind of production in the WAFL, except for Rowan Jones - but he was an immortal. At some point, you have to reward form.

The reality is Bennell is one of those players and he played in the WAFL.

Bennell's not exactly a game winner, and there aren't too many game winners that play back pocket. (I would like him in the side though)

Who was Wellingham playing on at the start? Serious question, I didn't pick it up on TV.

Playing Yeo in defence is just crap.

Putting a player with pace, height and clearance ability in the defence because you're getting pummeled in the midfield and every ball is coming in at break neck speed just makes no ******* sense at all.

One the most obvious changes that needs to happen i would've thought.

Are we any chance of actually beating this team on Fridee night?

Also I'm cringing at the fact that our mids have centre stage Fridee night. Could be very embarrassing [emoji16]
We'll, we are $1.44 odds on with the tank at $2.70

Can't possibly see how we are favourites?

I might put $20 on the tank...

Maybe they still think we have a home ground advantage, I'd expect us to go out, and for Carlton to come in after team selection

Watched on The Couch on Fox Footy Tonight.

They could not speak highly enough of McGovern's performance or throw enough superlatives, "one of the best back performances they had seen in a long time".

150 Dream Time or Fantasy points. One of those Fancy stats.

No talk about our useless midfield

A possible scenario.......Our midfield needs to be anchored around Shuey and Yeo in the middle and Wellingham and Marsden on the wings. The other slower and poorer ball users (Priddis, Selwood, sheed )should be support/role players. Cripps, Newman and LeCras should provide short stints through the middle. Duggan and Colledge should be provided with midfield opportunity throughout the year, whilst Gaff and Rosa can run from defence or relieve off the bench.
