Bennell's not exactly a game winner, and there aren't too many game winners that play back pocket. (I would like him in the side though)

Who was Wellingham playing on at the start? Serious question, I didn't pick it up on TV.
Just went and had a look again myself, started on the bench and then moved onto the the half forward line where he picked up Boyd a couple of times or vice versa. Hardly an attacking role.

Hardly a negating role either. At least not compared with McGinnity and Selwood's roles on Murphy and Bont respectively.

You guys are coming up against the worst Carlton side since the start of 2008. In saying that we will stretch your depleted defence and kick a winning score to win by around 50 points.

Colledge had 37 possessions and 3 goals. I don't recall any Eagle ever getting that kind of production in the WAFL, except for Rowan Jones - but he was an immortal. At some point, you have to reward form.

Sure. Just don't be surprised when people start ripping pieces of him after a poor game in Eagles colours.

As for his from, he had two good games in a row in dominant sides.

Too bad Carlton don't have any decent towards to stretch us.

Could Colledge come in and play a similar role to Darling? (i.e. He'd come in to replace Lamb) Seems he's a similar height/build. Or is he too slow/doesn't apply enough defensive pressure?

Haha i like this bloke, Welcome aboard, Im sure we are going to hear the words (Stretch/Defense/Depleted) alot this year !

Probably better off playing Tunbridge instead - quicker, tackles hard.

How big is this game for both clubs and it's only round 2!

Carlton to stretch our back half?

I think we can both me honest and say we (both) won't be making the finals.

We play Subi really well, and we seem to play you really well, mostly exposing you with pace.

I think our clearance work is better than yours, so I think if we can capitilize on your weak (due to injuries) backline, we should win the game.

However, Nic Nat and JJK will destroy us.

What will be funny, is that both Carlton and West Coast played 3 taggers...

Murphy, Simpson/Yarran will be tagged.
Shuey, Gaff, LeCras will be tagged.

There will be a comedy of errors but I think it will be close. It will swing 2/3 goals either way. Whoever kicks straighter will probably win.

You are very likely to be correct! the winner of this game has that glimmer of finals football hope alive. As with all our games our midfield will keep you in it, I agree with all your other points. Close game but being a home ground I think we will nudge you out.

Go away Bic ;)

Apologies if posted elsewhere, summary of Simmo last night on 6pr. Paraphrased unless in quotes. Here: http://www.6pr.com.au/news/adam-simpson-flags-changes-20150407-1mfnlb.html

- Disappointing re: Brown
- Back help up well, but supply issues elsewhere
- "Midfield didn't turn up on the weekend"
- Sinclair ready to go this weekend
- Nucleus to be competitive down back remains - for instance Elliot Yeo, "really like the way he goes about it"
- Schofield "more than likely" this week
- McGovern starting to blossom
- Hurn can play tall if needed
- We broke even w/ Bulldogs, at times we looked dangerous but then other times we didn't get it done
- Nic was good, but we didn't get pretty ball out of the middle
- Didn't play the game on our terms, our forwards didn't get enough service
- Nic isn't Dean Cox - people shouldn't think of him as a 'play through' player. He was "really good" on the weekend and "gave us a real spark"
- Lycett "wasn't great on the weekend", we didn't get advantage we should have playing 2 rucks versus 1
- Lycett is a young player, lots of improvement to come
- I talk to the leadership after every game. Hurn did well in first game as captain. Leadership group are "consistently, reliable players" but we're looking for them to stand up when the game is up for grabs.
- "Can't be happier with the leadership group"
- Has a friendly go at Langdon re his opinions on Cripps in the past
- "Happy with Crippa's preseason" .. "he had an outstanding game" .. "pleased for him, but he didn't get enough supply"
- Ball didn't get into the forward line nearly enough
- Re: Carlton - "similar feelings to us after their game last weekend"
- We can't wait for the Friday game
- Want to make sure last weekend is "an event, not a pattern"
- Early selection decisions will be made because it's a Friday game
- Wouldn't be surprised if we make two or three changes

Every game the likes of Shuey, Masten, Wellingham and Selwood play is a waste. These guys have amounted to nothing, classic list cloggers, good enough to take games away from genuine prospects and maybe beat up really rubbish teams, but nowhere to be seen when there's a real contest. Persisting with them year in year out has been extremely harmful to the development of better prospects.

Look it sucks we lost to a team we should have beaten and people are calling for Simmos head because he wont make wholesale changes after one loss. I saw signs of a good gameplan but the midfield let us down and i do not blame Simmo for calling them out but at the same time he will back them in for a few more games and so he should. He obviously has a gameplan in his head and the players would have been drilled about it throughout the pre-season and for him to just change it all at round 2 is just stupid. I see this year as a development year where we build on depth for next year. Loss's to EMAC and Brown will have screwed his plans up big time, he now has to play Hurn & Yeo as defenders with Wellingham also playing down back. Automatically this ruins a lot of our run and flair that should be used further up the ground. The only positive to come out of this is how well Mcgovern responded to the extra responsibility and maybe it will spark the other younger players to do the same.

Things we should be doing this year:

- JK stated in an interview he things Rosa will play stints down back. He offers height and isn't the worst idea ever this in turn could allow us to rotate Yeo into the midfield to drive us forward.

- Bring in Bennell to play as an attacking HBF which he has shown he can do in spades and leave the defending to others. He can offer some pace and skill out of the backline we might miss if Hurn & Yeo is playing a more defensive role.

- Schofield back in should be good to help out Mcgovern and the structures should be a lot better. Glad he was bulked up as he offers height and some strength to help out down back.

- Need to keep giving Sheed more time so he gets time to get used to the pace of AFL footy. We need to find a new role for Priddis to allow us to do this. I have noticed the bullies play Boyd ( very similar player to Priddis) down back. Not sure how this would work but it could be worth a shot.

- Bring in Duggan another go in the WAFL and if he produces what he has in the last 2 i think he should come in a sub. Worked well for Gaff in 2011. Play him on a wing with Gaff on the other.

- No more Masten in the guts , play as a HF where he always plays his best footy. Rather he get 15 disposals and a few goals than 30+ in the guts.

- Wellingham to play in the center at all times. He is wasted down back and we need to use his pace and flair in the center.

- Keep playing Lamb as he showed a lot of spark and heart out there on the weekend. I can not see Darling having any influence till after the bye.

- Scooter wasn't at his best on the weekend but he is coming off a pre-season where he barely trained so after this week he will be better off at it. He needs to get back to his 2011-2012 form where he was the best tagger. Leave all the attacking footy to Wellingham, Shuey, Gaff, Sheed & Yeo. In turn i wouldn't bother with Mcginnity in the team as a forward tagger isn't used as much these days.

Can McGinnity just like....go away now?....please? Bring in ruddy Ash Sampi, I don't care

I was thinking that Duggan could potentially play the defensive forward role.
It's not exactly where we'd like to see him play but he does have defensive ability and would be excellent to get him creating i50s off his boot.

ALL the talk on the eagles website/media outlets is about the BACKLINE, how are we going to save the backline?!?! Our biggest concern is our ##*# **## **## midfield!!
exactly....our problem has been our midfield for 2 years. Our Midfield is a shitshow!!
X and Bennel back in please...both class acts. McGinnity should not be on our list ....he is a total spud.. Butler another Spud.

Scooter is a shit kick and ordinary player.....Schuey cannot deliver under pressue and always gets caught.....Masto good kick but slow.....DOM SHEED IS TERRIBLE.......having Sheed on the field on Saturday night was like having no one out there. Sheed is appallingly slow in mind and in action. I hear he is as thick a s two bricks!!!!
