Look up afl.com. First thing I see is another eagle down...WHAT BLACK CAT DID WE RUN OVER!!!!!

Few points (hate to be a bit of a danny downer but I need to vent on a couple of things)

No McInnes but an underdone Schoey. Tomorrow would have been the perfect game for Fras to debut?
Rapt for the Dugg. Good to see him get an opportunity
Bennell IN straight into a BP for Buttman? Zero accountability. McGinnity to a BP imo in that small forward tagger role
And Tunbridge.... without knowing intricacies aren't Colledge and Hill supposed to be more in form at WAFL level?

I would like to be the first person to publicly express my condolences for whichever Eagle does his knee this week.

Seriously, am I the only one who remembers the great defensive work Bennell has done in the seniors? Not to mention the times he has spoiled far bigger opponents to cover for the talls?

Cmon thorne what rock you been hiding under. He even showed it last weekend at WAFL level. See ball, get ball is all well and good if you can work back hard to defend on your man. Bennell doesn't work hard enough that way.

I'm happy for him to play a loose man/ sweeper role in the back half but you'd think the Blues will clue to that quickly and man him up

It's hardly surprising that our main rebounding small would occasionally get exposed defensively. That is part and parcel of having a player of that ilk. It is up to the more limited defenders to cover for them as they go on their dashes. I daresay the scoring chances we get from Bennell's attacking forays offset anything that goes back against us.

No. He plays a little wide of his man. That means he can assist others and also add some drive from defense. Wirra used to concede the odd bag in his day, but we wore that because he provided so much in other areas. Bennell's not as good as Wirra, but he can play a similar role. We're crying out for it.

Against a team like Carlton without a genuine small forward anymore yes but if you try that sort of attack against say Hawthorn with Rioli, Bruest and Puopolo inside 50 your in trouble.

If he is able to be freed up for his natural game is he off use in the midfield do you think?

Bennell is a great in, shame about Butler but I guess he will always be managed and will always have niggles. Reckon Tunbridge is included in the hope that he can fill in a variety of positions. I wouldn't have picked him but good luck to him.

When Duggan comes on (assuming he is sub) get ready for the cleanest set of hands on the park, regardless of conditions. Watching him play against East Freo on a slippery Subiaco surface and he was miles ahead of everyone else playing that game.

A 80% Schofield is better than McInnes
Butler is injured apparently so Bennel back in. McGinnity would kill us in the defensive 50 with his poor disposal
Tunbridge comes in as a medium tall to replace Darling/Lamb. I thought they would have gone with Hill but Tunbridge is ok.

Whilst I don't want to have to spectate a wet game, I wouldn't mind if it rained slightly just to make it easier on our back line with the talls they will try stretch us with. Hoping we'll still get up.

Tunners had 8 tackles and kicked 2 goals plus his height makes him a better option particularly for F50 pressure. Hill is a better shot but still has big issues defensively.

Didn't say anything about Paddy kicking the ball. I give him two jobs to do

  • Come off the line Deledio like at the bounce and sniper some Carlton boys, than we will be forced not to pick him :D
  • Make sure his opponent doesn't kick a goal

If he does that I'll give him 10 votes Eagles P.O.T.Y. If he half completes it I'll give him a 7.5

Commentators on the WC Facebook page are a sad bunch

Someone mentions how bad McGinnity is - gets flamed because apparently he's a good player

People calling for Sinclair to be chucked in the team

People questioning how one blinder by Colledge isn't enough to give him a spot

Hate on Lamb being dropped

Calling Shred the next Swift
