Who would be your 3rd man up this week seeing as Mcgovern isnt planning and he has been the king at it this year, ( sorry not too familiar with your other backman as majority are out lol)

If it is Hurn, whoever he plays on Stringer or Redpath, i see them taking him deep to the goalsquare to nullify his influence.
Could you do the same to Wood?
Haven't just had one this year, Sheppard, Wellingham, Hurn, Ellis all go when required.

Sheppard and Wellingham. All of our defenders bar Bennell will be playing tall and small. Sheppard has been defending 1 on 1 against players spuds like Jesse White and Vickery this season and doing a pretty good job of it.

I think the whole 'third man up' thing is overstated with us this season. Our backline hasn't just been holding up because we zone off and double team, it's also that guys like Sheppard and Wellingham have been doing outstandingly well aerially against taller opponents. Helps when the delivery I50 isn't lace out too.
Its funny, when you talk about eagles, it relates almost 100% to the way the dogs have been tracking this year. Although Wellingham and Sheppard can come across and double team Stringer Dickson and Crameri have kicked over 30 goals in the past three games combined. Be it against weak opposition the boys will be up on confidence which may cause Sheppard and Wellingham to think twice before leaving there man to give a chop out to others.

Thats my wishful thinking though haha

That's the thing though, even though they don't seem like it, Shep/Sharrod are both quite strong 1-v-1 overhead defenders, even against taller opponents. But they won't stand a chance on the lead.

It'll ultimately come down to the midfield and how quickly/easily we allow you to move the ball forward.

I can see it being a bit of a shoot out. Hope we have our kicking boots on.

4 come in and 4 go out. No Selwood yet which is an interesting thing. Hopefully it's a form based thing now as well as injury management.

I've named Cripps in italics incase he becomes a late out with that jaw. Was able to play on in the Derby so no adverse effects I presume but I don't want to see it risked. McGinnity lucky to save himself from the sharpened axe but with 4 or 5 enforced changes he becomes safe

INS: LeCras ~ Barrass ~ Nelson ~ Naitanui ~ Lamb
OUTS: Masten (suspended) ~ Schofield, Butler, Lycett (injury), Cripps

BACKS: Brad Sheppard ~ Tom Barrass ~ Shannon Hurn
HALF BACKS: Sharrod Wellingham ~ Elliott Yeo ~ Xavier Ellis

CENTRE: Matt Rosa ~ Matt Priddis ~ Dom Sheed
FOLLOWERS: Nic Naitanui ~ Luke Shuey ~ Andrew Gaff

HALF FORWARDS: Jamie Bennell ~ Jack Darling ~ Mark LeCras
FULL FORWARDS: Josh Hill ~ Josh Kennedy ~ Jamie Cripps

INTERCHANGE: Callum Sinclair ~ Jackson Nelson ~ Mark Hutchings
SUB: Patrick McGinnity

How big of an out would Cripps be for you guys?

Anyone know which of the dogs extended bench travelled? ^hint...
Hoping Caleb Daniel stays in Vic. He's to nimble for us.

Score updates aplenty this week...
Looks like T Boyd is not travelling as he is named in the VFL team against Essendon this week.

Unlikely that Bennell plays HFF?

Hope Yeo plays midfield, a chance he doesn't though.

Dogs fans are good value. They have all the guts and determination of an underdog battler, without the bizarre sense of entitlement and campaignerish behaviour of say.. a North Melbourne fan.
Absolutely. And don't have the little brother attitude of a Dockers fan.

Fletcher Roberts I think may single-handedly tear us apart feather by feather :D

I think the Stringer Vs Hurn if it pans out that way will be important. Hes our Chief Executive of traffic. Stringer is a gun.

Forward line pressure will be huge for both sides. Wood/Murphy/Johannisen are in fine form. Would love to see a few of our forwards get 5+ tackles, lots of pressure acts etc and stop that fast ball movement.

So yeah fwd v back matchups Im most excited about.

Cant see Bunga taking Stringer....hope they try and get him lose and leave a more lock down type on Stringer....who is an extremely difficult matchup.

This makes me happy. Tom Campbell sole ruck with a chop out from a 194cm Redpath and third men up. Nic Nat and Sinclair need to, and should absolutely destroy the contests. We need first hands on the ball every time.

I've named Bennell off HF but it could easily be Hutchings or Lamb as well or if Picken was playing using Ginners as a defensive HF. That flank is really a rotational player and or resting midfielder and could even be a defensive forward to do a job on Rob Murphy or Easton Wood

I'd much rather Yeo plays midfield as well but I think through necessity he needs to line up off the HB line and can hopefully set up some attacks from there.

Spaceclef got it spot on with Sheppard and Wellingham.

I'm not sure Hurn would be able to contain Stringer like that. Stringer to good!

Interestingly Kennedy and Darling roamed up into our backline against Freo to help out a little bit at the start last week. Would be curious if wood and talia would follow them...

Just looking at afl.coms preview. Looks like Bennells on him lol. Wellingham I feel is not a bad matchup but don't want him to be locked down focusing on Stringer, how about McGinners?!
