Interesting that only Naitanui (79%), Sheed (72%), Selwood (68%), Lamb (68%), Duggan (60%), McGinnity (66%) have less time on ground that Shuey (80%)

I wonder if he's carrying an injury?

Compare it to Gaff (91%), Priddis (87%), Yeo (85%), Masten (90%), Lecras (89%)
May be more to do with a lack of versatility. He doesn't have a huge tank like Masten and Gaff, and I haven't really ever seen him resting forward.

Essendon are a disgrace and if we can contribute to Hirds sacking by flogging them its job well done.

Hird coaching from the boundary provides us with a good opportunity

It wouldn't matter. Even if we do flog them (which I personally think we will), the media are just going to make them victims and go the whole "WADA taking it's toll mentally" bullshit. Goddard even started trotting out that line in regards to their shitty performances of late.

This will be a tough game !! Essedon's midfield have the potential to be a bad match up for our's once again they hace some big bodies in there !

You think that's bad? Just imagine what the media would say if they win...:mad:

Honestly, the obtuse hyperbole surrounding their supposed bravery is comical. Which is to say, they are painted as comic book heroes. I can see it now... "Hirdman the Brave smites villainous Booing Eagles! First stop, WA - next stop, WADA!"

Would happily leave them and the media scraping the bottom off of the barrel looking for excuses, even if they find a sob story for now it's one more nail in the coffin of a coach who failed to do the most basic due diligence to ensure that his players obeyed the rules that they are held to.

Thought it was odd that the commentators basically jumped on the WADA saga as an excuse for Essendon as early as the second quarter. It's not like anything happened during the week to make that game any different from the 50 others they've played since the story first broke.

At least they aren't super quick. Fast midfields are our Achilles heel.

The game should be decided by the difference in quality of the two forward lines. Break even in the guts and supply to both is similar you would hope ours would outscore Essendon's.

Hopefully last weeks loss has shaken loose the complacency I saw creeping back into the mindset of some players.

Been watching Essendon the last month and they have been really really ordinary but in saying that from history they do like to have their memorable matches against us and it feels like we have been on the wrong end of them a lot through our history so I'd love to really put some pain through that mob. Nows the time to do it.

I wouldn't say zeibell is quick i think we struggle with the stronger big bodied midfielders that just barge through any structure's we have around the stoppages

Yeah true, teams who have beaten us this year:
Freo = big bodies
North = big bodies
even bulldogs are a good contested team with players like the bont etc,
And we always suck against Sydney who have a strong, big midfield.

Whereas sides like GWS, GC, Geelong, Port (with no Wines) and St Kilda have faster, smaller midfields.

I get a bad feeling about this game then with Watson, Goddard, Heppell etc, they always kill us

Essendon won't trouble us.
Essendon have a nasty habit of ****ing us up the arse, more so than any other club in the comp. I don't trust them

Surely Sydney is a far greater bugbear for us. We beat Essendon in Round 20 2013, whereas the last time we beat Sydney was all the way back in 2007.

The only team who has troubled us anywhere close to that extent in the last decade is Collingwood, who we've still gotten the best of in a handful of games in the past 4 seasons.

In more recent times Sydney have been more difficult for us but (and this is off the top of my head)

1989 windy hill game - still our lowest score and greatest losing margin
1990 prelim final
1993 jacket waving game
1993 semi final
1996 semi final that should have been at subiaco
2002 elimination final
2003 hird game after he'd been fined $20k
2007 when we lost by a point at etihad
2007 when Lucas ****ed our percentage in the last quarter and cost us a home final first week
2013 the boo jobe game when essendon were so brave

There's others but I'm going from memory. They have a habit of beating us when it hurts

Most of them were when Essendon was a club to be respected (may not have liked them).

New era and new expectations.
