Changes vs Freo

Walters and Hill are the two that worry me. Whether or not we choose to include a little more pace remains to be seen, but I'd be content going in unchanged.

I would send Melksham back to the reserves for a couple of weeks. Wasn't really happy with his disposal last night.

Maybe put kommer back, or bring him into the 21.

So

In:
Hams or Jetta

Out
Melksham

Kommer out. I've seen him do that baulk around a player when he is less than 20m from goal at least 4 times so far this year, the last 2 times it has failed, when you dont have many tricks you get found out quickly at this level. Seems to be some shiny object effect going on in here, new player = new toy for fans. There is at least 5 better footballers playing 2nds.

No changes needed unless there is injury. Winders will need at least a full game in the vfl to have his match fitness where it needs to be
Would love to see kommer go to ballantyne and shut him out completely aswell as get under his skin, will win a few easy free kicks i think

If Kommer is not going to start the game I'd prefer to have Jetta in the side as the sub because I think he could be really damaging late in the match in the more open space.

There may well not be a match up for Hooker this week so maybe Pears is a chance being better suited to the mid/smaller sized players and given his great form in the twos (according to the match reports). I don't think this is going to happen and probably don't want this to happen.

Given that Crameri seems to end every game in disastrous shape but never misses I never really think that he will miss a week. If he doesn't play Gumbleton is in better shape than Daniher and should get first crack.

I can't see how anyone is under any pressure to keep his spot. As I typed this I thought Ryder could do with a kick in the pants but he owned the ruck last night and the combination with Bellchambers looks great.

I want Jetta to stay in 2s now and build up confidence as a mid and return to the side to add some x-factor and be a one-two punch with Zaka in the middle on top of the class and ball winning of the rest of the midfield.

Winderlich will definitely be considered after bagging 8 but he's on a program that involves 4 games for Bendigo. I think he has at least one more and if he's back after that there is a good bit of selection pressure going into the game against Freo.

However, within a few weeks by now I think we could see Merrett and Kommer out for Jetta and Winderlich.

I'd like to see Baguely out for Hardingham. Also in a horses for courses selection I'd like to see Hooker out for Gumby and play him at FF and send Goddard back to the backline for one game.

So for me:

Out: Hooker
In: Gumby
Sub:Merrett
Emerg: Jetta NLM Hooker

Out
Melksham
Doesn't make any sense

Outs: Merret, Davey
Ins: Jetta, NLM

I think 2 games in a row for Merret is enough at this stage. Let him go back to VFL and get a few games in the midfield.

I haven't been convinced by Davey. Kommer and Jetta forward might work better.

Recall Jetta having good games at Subi and doing well at VFL level.

NLM to come in as sub.

If it ain't broken, why try and fix it? Never have I heard of anybody getting dropped after a 150 point win, it would be insane. If we can keep the same team 3 weeks in a row, well then that's good. The boys all are closer from it, have more trust in each other and will play better together. If Crameri is sore or injured, then Gumbleton or Daniher could come in.

Only thing else is Hooker, the MPR dosen't have any consistancy, who knows they may decide to suspend Hooker (abelit for no reason), who would come in for him?

If Crammers did not come up I would suggest that Gumby would be the best replacement, his game really suits the extra size of Subi. You could also give Joe a run but maybe an easier kill than Freo at Subi would be preferable and Gumby just has that edge in endurance and size.

Well it would be nice for him to debut on Friday and then have him destroy Mcpharlin, and from what I've seen, he might just do that.

NO GODDAMN CHANGES!!!!

If it ain't broke why tinker with it? Switch Froggy into a sub vest and unleash Kommer either down back on Ballantyne or through the middle.

Jetta played 1 good game in the VFL against a hapless Bendigo. String a few like that together and then he'll be considered.

I understand this is foreign to many having very little 'deadwood' on the list and breaking the habit of logging in and demanding changes each week is going to be hard but these guys are buzzing right now and Freo is ripe for the picking. The Dees were a warm-up and I'd like to see how the Kommers and Merrett go against a good outfit in Freo.

Winderlich IN. kicked 8 in the reserves. the guy is hungry.

I would send Melksham back to the reserves for a couple of weeks. Wasn't really happy with his disposal last night.

he's the only bloke who made it look like a struggle, in a team that won by 24 goals.

seriously, what a spud.

Hill and D. Pearce are who I am most worried about. We cannot, and should not, tag both and in theory they should only be as good as their supply anyway.

Our core inside midfield group of Watson, Howlett, Hocking, Myers, and Goddard and Heppell, doesn't need to be intimated by any side when it comes to winning the footy. It seems that Freo is equally blessed with big bodied ball winning midfielders and that a stalemate in this part of the contest is a likely outcome. My bias slants me towards our guys but without having paid much attention to Freo so far this year it is hard to make an informed comment.

I doubt that Hocking would be able to effectively keep up with Hill or Pearce who, given their use as almost purely outside players, represent a very different proposition to him being able to keep up with Dangerfield who he can get to in close. Our best stopper ought therefore go to Fyfe who strikes me as their most destructive ball winner.

I am more than comfortable with Stanton running head to head with one of Hill or Pearce. I think we could get real value from having Melksham run with Hill who I guess is currently regarded as the better of the two. Melksham has the speed and the skill to hurt Hill on the counterattack and he is still in that phase of his development during which he could learn a lot running with the opposition's really good players. Last year it would have been a death sentence for Jake, who would have blown up in the first 10 minutes, but this year he has recaptured his mobility and, as far as I can tell on TV, he has the fitness base to run hard both ways.

We need all of the midfield run we can get because this is feeling less and less like one of those occasions when we can keep the game in close (keeping the midfield battle locked up in close is how we have been playing our best footy but is not how we have beaten Lyon coached sides in the past).

Having gotten to this point I am now firmly of the view that Jetta must play in place of Merrett, Kommer or Davey and the he ought to start. Jetta also made his own case with what we are told was a polished 34 possession game playing in the midfield for our reserves side (it would be nice for someone to kick the ball to Hurley's advantge too).

Kommer should start so that he can make life difficult for C. Pearce or Suban. This is strictly a horses for courses selection and a want to upset Freo's ball movement as much as possible (he would otherwise not play). Based on what I think is the sensible view that experienced players make better subs, and given the potential for him to exploit the open space later in a game, Davey would be my sub this week. Merrett would be ridiculously unlucky.

The rest of the match-ups are all quite self explanatory. Hibberd goes to their most inform small who seems to be Walters.

I know that we have the wood over Lyon and his game plan but Freo is not St Kilda. They have a much more even spread of talent than the Saints did, much more speed and Freo does not need to protect its backline to the same extent as they have some seriously good key defenders (not to mention that he is a gun coach and astute enough to understand the strengths of his list and the weaknesses of ours).

While I don't think we need to be particularly worried about this game because it is interstate, as we are now a much more professional outfit that can get really good results on the road, it is still a tough trip against a good opponent who will be prepared for us. We need to break the mold slightly to ensure that we can best take advantage of our strengths.

In summary:

Out: Merrett (wrong side of a horses for courses selection)
In: Jetta
Sub: Davey

Essendon by 10 to 20 points.

Think that Hocking will go to either Hill or Pearce - Freo get lots of drive from there outside runners. I am happy for Zaharakis to match up on the other player.

Stop bloody saying Winderlich! He hasn't even played a full game at VFL level yet. As soon as his GPS hit 8km they took him straight off. It's well documented on the EFC website that he will play a full game in the magoos next week and come into consideration AFTER that.

Ya don't tag a player like Pearce when the likes of Mundy and Fyfe are getting around. My tip would be Hocking to Mundy, if let off the leash he can be very damaging.

And coming off a 25 goal win no change to the line-up, Merrett sub.

I reckon Hocking will go to Fyfe and Crowley will go to Heppell.

Stanton and Mundy will have big ones.

Gotta give Kommer another game. A homecoming to the west.

Only changes I foresee is Crameri out if his knee doesn't come up. For Nick O'Brien perhaps.

Merrett I would like to see get another go, but he might be managed. Jetta his replacement, or Kav.

But agree with alot of others, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
