We played well against the Hawks up at Tassie. Got beat but 48 points but we were right with them for 3qtrs of the game. Still learning a new game plan.

Hopefully we'll have McGuane in the side and McGrath too, he just has to play against the Cats. So assuming they are both available:

Ins: McGuane and McGrath
Out: Taylor and Close/Paparone

One change.

McGuane IN
Close OUT
Yeah that would be my feeling although Paps is a chance as well. Paps had the better game but is closer to McGuane in role and body type I would have thought.

Wouldn't be too fussed either way. Watch out for Paine as well - he could be a surprise IN.

I really don't see any changes being made. I think Leppa will try to keep things settled.

I would like to keep the same team if possible for another round or two and then make changes if have to.

Ash wont be ready, hopefully McGuane can come in. Id like to try keep Paps and Close in the team, will be interesting how we go in. Paps does play right up the ground, he is basically a winger. If he isnt going to play a role that is taking marks inside 50, id like to see Brown/close and McGuane all in the same team. Close laid 5 tackles v the Hawks, him and McGuane can provide defensive pressure.

Who comes out if Close and Paps stay in? I think it has to be Taylor. Not because he had a bad game, but after not much of a preaseason he has played 1 intraclub hitout, 1 ressie game and 1 qtr v the hawks. He needs to play some full game time, and I think he is best finding some rhythm in the ressies than playing as the sub each week.

Last week we subbed off a tall for a small, and I think that will be a standard game plan if we play a tall forward line to increase our running power in the last and help us run out games.

If Taylor is going to be dropped, then McGuane as sub might work. Yes, he's a tall but you don't lose much in terms of running and defensive pressure. If we're planning to sub off a tall, then McGuane maintains a marking target. If you sub off a small, then you can increase the midfield time of Green, Zorko, Rich etc to maintain your rotations.

Certainly an idea. McGuane does have some xfactor and could come on and kick 3 goals in a qtr. Maintains our structure as well.

in: mcguane, bewick
out: close, taylor

Was coming on here to post the same thing.

McGuane is an automatic in, and while Paps is more a like for like change he has done enough to keep his spot, while Close didn't. Close would find it tough going against one of Taylor or Rivers anyway, while Marco and Luke can run them around the ground and give Browny the chance to go one-on-one with Lonergan.

As chopperduck says, Taylor would still have to be a bit underdone, and it'll be a humid afternoon in Brisbane by the sound of things, so it's a bit much to ask him to play a full game.

Bewick was named as an emergency so he's probably the closest of the senior players. He can rotate between the midfield and the forwardline, allowing Golby to spend more time down back and Green and Zorko to spend more time in the guts.

Might be a good game for Aish to be the sub. It's going to be a tough one for a rookie to run four quarters.

I would go with IN: McGuane (if fit), Bewick
OUT: Close, Taylor

If Rockliff is out it will be hard, if he's in wouldn't mind him going head to head with Selwood but he had I think 33 or 34 down at Simmonds last year might be worth letting him play his natural role maybe have someone like Harwood play a run with role and put him into the midfield rotation, he was fairly quiet against the Hawks.

That being said Taylor has a bit more pace, I would be more inclined to play him for the first half then sub on another running type player. Hopefully McGuane can get up the club has been fairly vague with what is wrong apart from a troublesome knee or something. This will be hard to win given our new structures, played well last year under Voss so Leppitsch might be able to work out a way to win, but I'm not sure we'll have the polish to do it.

I would rather give Close more of a run than just 1 game. Taylor needs some time in the ressies to build up his fitness so I would bring in McGuane for him. Yes it may be a little tall but Paparone is more of a small than a tall imo. Brown and Close will be our 2 key targets and McGuane will be the 3rd tall. Plus Close and McGuane are both able to apply defensive pressure so although it will be a tall team we won't be to slow.

You have got to be kidding!

Rocky gets belted by Sumner and he gets off, a bit of niggle and Rocky is forced to sit out the first home game of the season.

Absolute madness.
