In: Dawes, Davey, Blease
Out: Grimes (inj), Bail, Trengove

Fitzpatrick is unlucky but I don't want to go too tall/unco.

Dawes says he's right for next week, so I guess he's in. Bail didn't have a great game today and should go back to the VFL. Not sure what to do with Trenners, needs to find some form ASAP. Toumpas might get another run in the AFL this week, also depending on how bad Grimes' injury is, might Magner get promoted? McDonald is on thin ice too, might go for Sellar or Pedo.

INs: Dawes, Toumpas, (McDonald)
Out: Bail, Grimes, (Sellar)

I don't mind Bail in the side. He certainly does a hell of a lot more than Blease at the minute. Deserves at least another game. Grimes going out hurts but he may got on the LTI, meaning they may elevate Magner as a direct replacement. Trengove needs a rest as well but with Grimes going out of the side do they drop him as well, meaning both co-captains miss? For me it's:

In: Dawes, Magner
Out: Grimes, Trengove

Toumpas stiff to miss but can't see who else gets the flick really. Kent deserves another run also, although he may be the one to go for Toumpas if they want to make that change.

In: Dawes, Rodan, Davey, Magner* (Jamar)
Out: Trengove, Bail, Kent, Grimes (Spencer)

*Grimes injury is apparentley serious, if placed on the long term injury list Magner comes in.
If Jamar is right to play, he comes in, thought we really missed his ruckwork today.

This, wholesale changes dont help anyone.

We won't drop Trengove, as he is the skipper. We'll get reamed in the media if we drop our captain and I just can't see the club doing that. Only way I see him out of the side is if we reveal he has an injury and is playing through it or we say we are "resting him", which really only covers us for the one game.

In: Dawes, Magner
Out: Grimes, ????? I'd like to drop a big man for Dawes but we need both Gawn and Spencer in there right now

Yeah, if both our captains are outs in one week it will almost be membership-microwaving territory.

Agree that we don't need too many changes. Grimes out obviously, Dawes comes in. I thought Bail and McKenzie didn't offer heaps, nor did Trengove of course. Howe was quiet too but suffered from the lack of tall forwards around him and having to play FF basically.

Toumpas to string a few good VFL games together, get some confidence up after being smashed from pillar to post in the first 3 weeks.

Jetta is back from suspension, not sure who he replaces though... Nicholson was quite good, Terlich was solid and Strauss played a mainly defensive role. Might have to wait it out in the VFL I think.

Spencer and Gawn should go better against Smith, they were destroyed by Warnock today.

Out: Grimes
In: Dawes

That's the only automatic change for me, maybe one or two others.

Out:
  • McKenzie - Offers only the tag, but Murphy killed him, whilst Dunn killed Judd.
  • Spencer - Wasn't very impressive against non impressive rucks in Warnock and Hampson. Offers nothing up forward, so we were left with him and Gawn in the middle when Maxy rucked.
  • Grimes - Injured.
In:
  • Dawes - Fit enough.
  • Fitzpatrick, 200cm tall, need someone to straighten us up and can rotate with Gawn in the ruck. Prefer him to Pedersen.
  • Blease - Give him a run in the side!
No use making wholesale changes, just give us someone to kick to in the forward line. Dropping JT would only give Melbourne more media scrutiny.

I though Jetta was going alright before the suspension, I'd swap him in for Nicholson I guess. JT can't be dropped right now, the sharks would be all over it, especially being involved in the drug thing the media would go him.

Out: Grimes, Nicholson.
In: Dawes Jetta.

Also if Jamar is fit that's a no brainer for Spencil.

Completely agree. Remember last year when we started JT and Grimesy on the bench? The media were brutal on that, even though it was a storm in a tea cup. We drop JT and the blow torch will be on us for dropping our co-skipper, when the other one is out injured.

We won't bring that sort of media scrutiny on ourselves, especially since the media are pretty much looking for any excuse to sink the boot into the club.

Deemed this to be the best thread to post this. Basically just some of my thoughts/structural and tactical changes, rather than players.

1. We really missed Jamar. I was partially on board the drop Jamar train, but his absence today was obvious this game. Although it's publicized his hit outs aren't always effective, Warnock, a B grade ruckman had an absolutely field day on Spencil.

2. We need to tag more. Dunn was a success today, and I reckon him and Jordie should take the best midfielders each week. We don't really have the midfielders to deny the oppositions starts the ball, so I think we should definitely enforce more negative roles. As the commentary team pointed out, Dunn is a nice size. Eg Essendon; Dunn to Watson and McKenzie to Stanton

3. We need to go longer from kick ins. We simply don't have the skills to do cute, flashy kicks. The turnovers this year in our back half are indicative of this, and we should merely concede and go long to a contest with players ready for the crumbs every time.

4. Tapscott doesn't really strike me as a half forward/midfielder. Yes he is a long kick and a bit of mongrel, but I'd much rather see him playing down back where he debuted. I reckon his attributes will be better suited there and he is ahead of those currently in the role. I didn't even know Strauss was playing, that's how infrequent he got the ball.

I've been harping on for weeks that Spencil isn't up to it. Proved me right today. Easily accounted for by an average ruckman. Has no place in our side. Fingers crossed Jamar can come straight back into the side.

Warnock isn't B-grade. He's very much A-grade, but the problem he has is he's a pure ruck closer to Minson or Jacobs. He's simply useless around the ground and that hurts him when compared to Kreuzer. Didn't surprise me at all.

.

Disagree with this, think we need to be more deverse than just keep doing the same predictable thing. While it may be frustrating to watch now, the more they do it in games the improvement will come.

The form of Spencer and Sellar last year was clearly their peak off the back of a run of games, can't afford to give them that.

I reckon we should reward the effort today. Despite the scorecard, we kept pushing and had patches where we really took it to Carlton. I'd also like to see blokes given more than one game to acclimatise, therefore Spencil and Strauss stay on. So, minimal changes for mine.

Dawes needs another run in the VFL from all reports, but I can see Neeld putting him straight in even though our midfield is the problem. Trengove on very thin ice- if he's not injured I'd be staggered.

But for mine -
Out: Grimes (inj), Tom McDonald (woeful)
In: Magner, Jetta
