I don't get the "West needs to put pressure on selection by dominating VFL " idea . That would make sense if we had functioning key forwards that were justifying their spot . The fact is there already is selection pressure on our key forwards as they aren't performing . In that case you may as well give West a go to see if he can do better than nothing which is what we are currently getting from the players we are selecting .

Do we really know how much upside Buller has given he’s played 2 games in a completely new structure and game plan? Lots of people here, thought DC was a dud in his early years - new recruits need time to fit in and play well.
West is young he has plenty of time.
comment was more about how good I think west is not how bad Buller is

Why not play McCarthy then, or Howes? It’s been two games. It’s not panic stations

If West fails id try them next , give each a few games in a row if the club thinks they are ready . West 1st as I assume the club believe he is the most physically ready given he got a game last year .
I’ve no issue with west playing btw, I just don’t agree with the not performing at vfl lvl point. Thankfully west has, and is one of the few.

Seeing us at full strength and GWS with so many injuries makes me sooooo much more nervous about this game lol

Especially at Marvel
Haha I feel the same.

Pending any surprise injuries, there are genuinely no excuses if we lose this week to a team without their best two defenders, their best mid and potentially their second best key forward would feel like a disaster.

We have a new fwd structure, and 2 games is nowhere near enough time to conclude it’s not functioning.
A confident West being selected after dominating in the VFL offers a much greater chance of him succeeding than selecting him against GWS - especially given he missed the last VFL practice match against Geel.

While I think West needs to play...

I would be more comfortable if West played along side experienced McStay, Membrey. Rather then having 2/3 unexpereinced talls.

he asked why players needs vfl form for selection, I raised their names as reasons why
The names you mentioned need to VFL form. West doesn’t as he already showed what he can do at that level.

West has hands like buckets whereas Buller so far gives the impression of one of those trampoline-style-catching-nets.

Good feeling today with Bob back as well as Jez and the skip back into full training.
We come up against a side that find themselves on the ropes with form and injuries concerns, on our home deck (sort of)
Let's go boys, go into the lions clash 2-1 up! its a big 2 game swing we lose both and 1-3 sounds alot diffrent than 2-2 or ideally 3-1.
Need our forwards to fire and find cohesion immediately.

I think there's a decent chance that Charlie West will be a winner for us down the track as a key forward, but to expect him to come into the side this week (when he won't have played a game for about four weeks) and fix our misfiring forward line is asking quite a lot! I'm amazed that so many people have him coming in this week, especially since he's been out for a bit, and I think they're obliged to give Buller and McStay a bit more time to (hopefully) get going. Even though West has proven himself at VFL level, in his one senior game he managed just the one kick. That debut game was against a team that won just one game last season, so he certainly hasn't proven himself at senior level yet!

I don't think they'll pick him for the senior game this week, but if he plays VFL and shows good form straight away he should be a chance to get a game soon enough. There just doesn't need to be a huge rush to get him into the side, and (the same applies to Steene) I'd rather he show something in the VFL this year before we promote him.
