Unofficial Preview Changes vs GWS

I think we've all forgotten how good a 1-out forward JDG was back in the day. I'd play him at FF.

Unfortunately, Back in the day Jordy no longer plays for us.

Nevertheless, JDG up forward was a Buckley thing. It doesn't appear to be a Fly thing.

Marks inside 50 in the 3 years before Fly 45, 30, 31
Marks inside 50 since Fly 11, 9, 9, 9

Howe's been training in defence, while doesn't mean much; I don't think we'll play him forward unless its a break glass emg

Whenever he plays forward, we're inevitably cheering his goals in a loss.

I didn't watch it. He sliced them up in his SANFL senior debut last year, so seniors too. I wanted him.

I was staggered Twomey didn't have him going to Melbourne in his phantom draft.

I thought it was the obvious move by them.

The family connection and a highlights reel that screamed AFL relevant was always going to overcome any analytics that had a few others rated slightly higher.

Back in the day jordy played round 0. Kicked kicked 3goals and looked every bit his 2018 self

Id love him to become good. Even though it's Melbourne, a pair of Pickett's cutting through teams would be fun to watch.

Id convinced myself that he was off to Carlton, because GW loves small forwards and must hate watching Lachie Fogarty playing there for his team.

Out Allan omitted and either Timmy or Mcstay
In: West for either timmy or mcstay and ill bring in say a Jo Cochran.
As far as i know both Moore and Howe should be ok to play.
I say Moore has a better chance and Howe still another week and returning for Lions i dont know about him currently.
Moore should play again depends on what happens on the training track this week.
I said the same thing about the Crows game but didnt get up in time so lets see.
Be good as its at Marvel to hold player over anyway its a place where we get the most injured as its concrete there.
Held over for Lions maybe.

Steene needs to play and take centre bounces and then swap with Cameron.

It’s clear that the new rules benefit the tall leapers and it’s critical to get the ball out.

Adelaide midfield is weak yet we got towelled up because of a ruckman who has hardly played a game of AFL football who can jump.

Fortunately GWS doesn’t have a ruckman like that, but we should be getting Steene the experience.

I didn’t see anything from Steene during the gws and north practice games that suggests he should play. He was well beaten by Briggs and Xerri (as expected but not athletic rucks) and was even beaten in contests by CCJ who’s a whipping boy on the north board. He didnt seem to do very well against Stanley against Geel either.

So what you’re saying is that we are screwed.

I’m going for a walk into the bay.

I’m only offering my 2 cents of what I’ve seen. I just keep seeing people calling for Steene to play but myself I haven’t seen form to suggest he should. Lot of ruck contests I’ve seen him going to ground far too often trying to jump to high.

I’d like to see some VfL games where he’s playing well first. The VfL fixture is part of the issue we have with wanting to elevate some guys. We need some exposed form first

This game kind of wanting to win this one lions and freo away be it at AO.
Time to get one up here.
Bit of an ebb and flow early in the season.
But get in a way back on track with things get on with the early season at 1-1.
Start getting into things.

I’d play West, Cochran, Steene, Howe and Moore

Drop Allan, Skunk McStay, Parker Long
I highly doubt they’ll make 5 changes after one loss. Obviously Moore and Howe need to come right in so at least two will have to make way.

Feel like Parker and Allan might be the two omissions. Parker would be stiff because he’s done Alright.

Hitouts don't usually correlate with clearances. It might simply be that we haven't adjusted yet to Cameron losing the ruck and thus aren't covering the opposition ruck hitout zones as well as you need to when that opposition ruck is likely to win a lot of the hitouts.

It just seems in the games so far there’s a lot of easy clearances from the team winning the tap out.

It may be easier for the very tall or high leaping ruckman to direct their tap outs with a little more time flying for the ball rather than than physically fighting for position.

But, I don’t know. May be no different to previous years.

Claude has no idea.

They're likely to have less control of accuracy, but greater range and thus less predictable hitout spots. THeoreticaly, that'd be bad for us who have been pretty reliant on Nick getting to the hitout spot and the greater range would hurt our slowies - leg speed or reaction time.

Kingsley in his presser said Daniels, Cadman and Bedford could all be back, even though they're all listed like 2-3 weeks on the injury list

"I think we will, i think we are on track to get a few boys back... Cadman, Bedford and Daniels".
Of course.

Bedford is the one I don’t want. Will go straight to Nick again. I’d like to think Nick would have the advantage of more game time.

Fully expect us to go in with the same forwards again…

But I just feel this is a perfect opportunity for West to come in against a backline that is decimated.

If none of these young guys can get early season opportunities then forget about it.
