From Simmo's 6pr interview last night: http://www.6pr.com.au/news/simpson-aiming-for-muscle-memory-20150601-ghei4u.html

- Goalkicking was an aberration hopefully. Typically we're better than that.
- We felt like we had control for most of the day - a few things didn't go our way so we didn't feel totally comofrtable until the last ten minutes.
- The cats big men going down was a bit lucky for us.
- The game-day knowledge is showing evidence of improvement - things are instinctive amongst the senior players now, and the younger players are learning quickly. A few players have really stepped up to meet the challenge of our injuries earlier in the year.
- With a young group learning a new system, you need to have patience - but you aspire to instinctive choices. Freo are a good example of this - you want the system to be second-nature. But we've still got a fair bit of work to do.
- We've been pleased with disposal quality this year, but the thing we're most pleased with is the way the team is defending. That helps the ball movement as much as anything else.
- We're also being braver with our kicks - but the challenges are still ahead of us.
- Simmo played at Blundstone in a NAB cup once upon a time. WCE hasn't been back in two year's - Coxy tells Simmo he was best on ground in that game.
- It's a big trip and a big ask, but we're up for the challenge.
- [Asked re marks in 50 success rate]: It's important to find a balance - having a key forward like Josh is a challenge because you don't want to be too JK-centric and make it too easy to defend. We vary the entries - sometimes deep, sometimes not.
- [Asked re Schofield / Hawkins match up] - Our defenders need pressure up the ground to help support them. We're building it in a different way this year, partly through circumstance - so blokes like Gov and Schofield are going up a rung in terms of key defensive battles. For us, it's about minimising supply.
- We're hoping Darling plays some footy in the next week or so. We think he's progressed well and is ready to compete - probably through East Perth.
- East Perth went well today - changing list down there, so it's tough - good to see them do well.
- [Asked re Lycett/McGinnity] - they keep producing and keep putting their hand up. The East Perth relationship has been really productive.

Nothing we did not already know there from Simmo, nut a good read nonetheless.
Thanks for going to the trouble and putting it up. Appreciated!

Have to tell you, I just listened to this week's Superfooty podcast and it made me bloody angry. I don't normally buy into the 'Vic bias' stuff, but wowee this week's effort came close.

In the same podcast, they make the point that we've had a very easy draw (while making it sound like we're yet to play Freo), and that's part of the reason we're in second. But *then* they have a crack at the free kick counts at Subi this season.

Lads, they're contradictory ideas - either we're playing crap teams and dominating them on all measures (including free kicks), or we're playing good teams and being unfairly gifted wins via free kicks. You seem to be proposing we're beating crap teams but they deserve to get more free kicks than we do.

But if they're crap teams, and we're middle-of-road, aren't we going to get the ball first more often? Good lord.

Normally I quite rate that podcast, but lordy this week was a debacle.

We have indeed been winning the free kick counts, but what's more interesting is probably looking at the free kicks that other teams get or give away throughout their seasons so far, and whether those numbers spike against us or if they're generally consistent. My bet is the latter.

Rucks were basically draping themselves on NicNat at every contest, and Taylor was scragging Kennedy every time the ball came their way. We actually should have got a fair few more frees than we did.

We only get our free kicks mentioned when we're going well. 10th in frees for last year, not a word mentioned.

Should have had more for sure. They missed a couple that Geelong should have had too though, think Sheppard in the goalsquare should have been pinged for HTB. But Duggan got a handball away on his HTB, so you win some lose some.

Geelongs 'ruckmen' made no attempt at the ball half of the time.

Big week for the rucks this one. Saw a few highlights of the Roo's game, and Goldy seemed to linking up and running really well, almost Cox like:eek: Sinclair has been pretty good IMO of late, and with 4 goals coming from he & Nic, that's about all you can ask for from your 2 ruckman. Thing is, where's Lycett at?? Looks to be doing well in the WAFL, just seems to lack any sort of intent in the AFL games he's played this year. Is he just cruising after signing such a big contract, is he in danger of Sinclair taking over from him on a more permanent basis?

Good point on Goldy. He has been one of the form ruckman and is that style of ruckman that Naita can struggle with at times.

Norf under as lot of pressure this week to perform and Tassie is a long way to travel. The real danger I can see is starting sluggishly and letting them get their tails up with a handy lead. Our structures are a strength and the Roo's are off their game in that area. If we keep in it I think we will grind them down.

Again they have some talls up forward which can cause us grief if they get good supply. Petrie has been a bit off but is a class player and brown is a big unit and developing well. We need our mids to keep up the intensity and limit the quality of their i50 for sure.

NN and Hurn re-enacting Nicnats mark from the weekend. Bunga playing the role of Sinclair.

Thought I would look at how North lined up v Eagles per the weekend

NORTH MELBOURNE v EAGLES AS NAMED LAST WEEK

FOLLOWERS
Goldstein Cunnington Ziebell
Natinui Shuey Gaff

FF Waite Petrie Nahas
FB Butler Schofield Nelson

HF Thomas Brown Bastinac
HB Hurn McGovern Wellingham

C Wright Harvey McDonald
C Sheppard Priddis Duggan

HB Atley Tarrant Macmillan
HF LeCras McInnes Masten

FB Hansen Thompson Firrito
FF Cripps Kennedy Hill

INTERCHANGE
Higgins Dumont Gibson (S)Turner
Selwood Sinclair Bennell (S) Colledge

Yeo in is a no brainer but feeling like we need Barrass down back.

Obviously not sure how many of the North disgusting players will be left out after their pitiful effort. Based on the past, Brad wielding the axe is likely to mean MacMillan and Nahas get dropped. Now that teaches the team a lesson!!!!!!

I think giving North the lead is the key to success...

Am i crazy to think we should be winning the midfield battle this week?

With Swallow,Wells and Dal Santo out , we should really be getting on top of them.
