I think with the bye coming up in a few weeks, the club should take the cautious approach with sheed, darling, Ellis, Hutchings, Cavka, Newman and rosa. Play them in the wafl this week, let them press for selection next week. Anyone fit enough to to get in back in the team can either come back in next week, or play wafl until after the bye. Get our best team ready for the likes of Hawthorn and Sydney.

If Norf bring in Magical Door, & Swallow, I reckon we'll struggle. Swallow is quality, obviously, but if they have a forward line of Petrie, Waite, Daw & Brown our backs will get dominated. Granted if Daw comes in probably Brown goes out, but still, 3 genuine tall forwards against our makeshift KPD defenders, could get ugly.

They will have some grunt in the middle if Swallow plays but will lack run with no Dal Santo and Wells.

I think when players come back from Injury who are best 22 IE Rosa, Ellis & Darling they should spend the time in the ressies getting some match fitness and let players like Main develop in the league.

Yeah I'd be happy for Main to play league. And Adamson too if there is space and they think his form warrants it.

I don't think Rosa has been out for long enough to need to play ressies though. Should be able to play close to a full game. I think they will give him another week off anyway.

Darling, Ellis, Rosa and Newman are listed as "injured" until Round 12 - in actuality Simmo has been keeping these guys behind closed doors and giving them what amounts to a super extended preseason. Miraculously, all these players come back into the side after the bye, where their rested and well-managed bodies allow them to chop up the rest of the competition, catapulting us through the finals and onto a premiership.

Might have to start calling him Adam "Hannibal" Simpson.

Got me there I am pessimistic, I think the last, almost 10 years, have done that to me. In reality, our away form has been very good for the last few years, and they should be confident of a win.

Backline has performed amazingly well, considering the injuries. I just worry against sides with a few tall forwards, although North's, apart from Petrie, aren't really in the upper level of forwards, so hopefully we can keep them quiet.

The second half of the season is going to be to be interesting. The Angry Ant usually brings about some changes at Hawthorn that mean you cannot just put in play a defensive structure based on how your saw Hawthorn playing in the first half. Simpson would have been party to these changes when working underneath Clarkson and be thinking similarly for WCE.

Our draw had 2 tough 4 game runs that will make it hard to see how effective the subtle changes can work.

1. Geelong(H)/North(A)/Essendon(H)/Richmond(A) - June with optimism for 2-3 wins out of the 4
2. Sydney(H)/Gold Coast(A)/Hawthorn(H)/Fremantle - July/August timing and we will start underdogs for 3 of the 4

With Scooter returning, Yeo moving to the mid-field, there have been some changes to the first part of the year. We saw some tactical changes with Priddis spending time forward. We have also had the springboard from defence.

When we get King Jack back which now looks likely after the break, I expect Simpson to bring about some changes to our forward structures. McInnes has been a serviceable option and whilst he may not be dropped, there are options with Jack.

The good news for us is that while NicNat continues to dominate the centre taps to advantage, we have a weapon that will be difficult to coach against. We have already seen LeCras spending time through the midfield as we were told in 2014. Possible that there will be a role for Jack in there as well.

So despite the general consensus of McInnes only in there until Darling returns, don't be surprised if he stays a while longer.

Great to hear. Add to their woes that one of their effective KPP players in Tarrant is being wooed as a free agent and likely needing North to go for a serious salary increase or risk losing him.

Yep. Gov is always looking for a quick option, and he delivers well it to option he chooses. He's about the best intercept mark in the comp right now, but his creative playmaking makes him really dangerous offensively too.

I can't help but draw comparisons between this week's game and the game against Port. Although North have been smacked around a bit in the midfield with the injury stick, their forward line is actually quite similarly set up to Port and North's defense isn't too shabby either.

- North: Petrie, Waite and resting Goldstein if he's used offensively. While the small is Thomas
- Port: Shultz, Westoff and resting Ryder. Their small obviously being Wingard.

Midfield Comparison: Injuries make it easier to contain North's than Port's.
- North: Swallow? Ziebell, Dal Santo (Out), Wells (Out)
- Port: Boak, Gray, Cornes with Wingard at a few stoppages.

Defensive Comparison: Could provide more of a challenge than Port's.
- North: Thompson, Firrito, Tarrant, Hansen and Atley
- Port: Carlisle, Hombsch, Trengrove, Pittard

Overall pretty similar with the main differences being the midfield injuries and the decent defense.

Key West Coast Stats vs North Melbourne Stats:

Not sure about Intercept Marks, but he's averaging 7.5 marks a game and you'd gather plenty of those would be from opposition inside 50s. Also spending 86.6% of game time on field.

It becomes irrelevant if we can do what we've been doing for most of the year and cut attacks off by closing down space and intercepting at half-back, or at the least limiting disposal efficiency into our D50. You can't generate a winning score from 4 talls taking big contested grabs 20m out at the hotspot, and they wouldn't have the speed to crumb the packs or defend our dangerous rebounds. Shep, Nelson and Wellingham would have days out imo (Hurn playing tall).
