If McGovern doesn't get up, how are you guys going to attempt to stop Riewoldt, Griffiths and Vickery?

Riewoldt loves to push up the ground and move his opponent away from I50, leaving Griffiths and Vickery, both 200cm giants to take the contested marks for us.

I'm not so knowledgeable about your list, so I don't really know whether you have the height down back to deal with 2 ruckman sized forwards and Jack.

Especially since we love to chuck Deledio and Martin down forward, I have a feeling your backline might get stretched a little bit this Friday.

What we will do? What would you do if Martin, Cotchin and Deledio were injured at the same time?

There is nothing we can do but continue with our makeshift defence and hope for the best. Been doing the same thing the whole year.

Would be happy to see Tommy Barras get his first game at the expense of the injured McGovern. I think the responsibility would then fall with hurn or shep to do their best to nullify the third tall to the best of their ability as they have done manfully so far this season. Don't have a good feeling about this one. The bye can't come come quick enough for us to rest and reset.

Teams coming off the bye often lose to a team who has played the previous week.

Still think we will lose by a few goals. Just too tough with our three best KDP out.

Yep, we'd have to beat them soundly in the middle to win.

Really hope Simpson doesn't fall into the trap of playing Yeo back as a tall defender, he's just so much better for us in the middle.

Rosa has some height, might be worth bringing him in to play back instead, at Selwood or Sheed's expense. Sheed didn't have much time last week but also had pretty much zero impact, him or Selwood out IMO.

Two six day breaks with traveling to another country (Tas) playing a team off a 15 day break First game at the MCG this year, And if McGovern is out this will be a huge task to win this game !!

At the end of the day Darling could play back if needed. We have kicked winning scores without him this year and if McGovern is out it could be an option. Probably won't be but he has the ability and head space to do it if required.

Simmo post-game presser - forgive typos, doing this on crappy laptop.

- Happy with result. It was a grind - and not too pretty - but we got the points.
- We fumbled early and we weren't great ball use but it was a reasonable win.
- Asked re six day break leading to poor starts: Unsure. Three or four guys came off with knocks and we were a little unsettled. It was important that we managed to stay in the game despite being off (compared to say the Fremantle lapse)
- We contributed to the grinding nature of the game - there was cat and mouse from both sides in terms of moving around extra numbers.
- Asked re Lecca and Wellers post-positional changes: Very happy with Sharrod - he and Shep have been key contributors to a great back unit.
- Asked re: third game in 12 days on Friday - and how we deal with that: We've had to plan for it. It's not ideal to have two six day breaks in a row versus a team on the bye. We're holding some back from WAFL with a view to next week - Lycett, Fraser, Jackson. We'll see where we are with injuries.
- Gov had a corky - we'll find out through the week.
- We're not living in the headspace of "proving ourselves" or the flat-track bullies tag.
- We have to move quickly re Tigers.
- Xavier was a little scratchy on return - Jack had a good game - not at his best but he got through with no pain and looks in good shape.
- This was a different type of game then many we've played this season - hard to see in that context if Jack's addition altered structure too much.
- Different clubs will come to us with different strategies to counter our rucking strength. The guys are doing the job - but it's a week by week tactical concern.
- Asked re: scope for improvement in forward line - we build our attack off the back of our defence. I'm really pleased with our defensive outcomes and what we're doing off the ball.
- Re: Gov's subbing - I don't know if he'll come up this week, but he's a chance.
- Asked re Gaff form - He's been pretty good since I've been here. There was a perception that he couldn't break a tag, but I think he answers that. He doesn't get carried with his form but it's very good.
- He's winning enough of his own ball.
- We planned for Jack to play a full game today. We had a look at a few guys at three quarter time - Jack would have been one of them - but the intent was for a full game.
- We've got a very young group still - Yeo, Jack are two examples - these guys are still working on their craft.
- Asked if Barass is the answer if Gov goes down - He's the next in line, but we'll see this week.
- We need Rosa to tick some minutes over but will be available for the Tigers game depending on East Perth tomorrow.

Here is what's going to happen...

Selwood will retain his spot, as always.
Yeo will be moved to the backline, because that appears to be Simmo's favourite thing to do at the moment. I love it when he does that.
Our backline will be under the pump all game because our midfield smells, ever since the first point came back into play a few weeks ago.
Selwood is going to do a half ass 'run with' job on Cotchin, and that's going to justify his continued selection.

I wonder if we might rest a couple of guys with the two 6 day breaks etc.

Need a couple of fresh players in there. A few have looked very tired.

Fmac, Lycett, Nelson, Barrass all a chance

Bit different considering they are our three best mids, you are missing two defenders are you not? Not 100% sure but i thought the rest of your team was relatively healthy. Of course, if McGovern misses it will be three defenders missing.

If he does miss i can see our forward line stretching your defence, but on the flip side the potency in your forward line with Darling back is fantastic, so our back 6/7 will need to be at their best to contain.

Can see the match-ups being:
Kennedy-Rance
LeCras-Vlastuin
Darling-Grimes/Batchelor
Cripps-Hunt
Masten/Shuey/any other mids-Houli
Chaplin floating defender/resting ruck

Darling is the hardest match up for us imo, Kennedy is obviously the most dangerous forward but Rance is an excellent defender so he should hold his own.

Think it will be a close game, possibly the 6 day break with travel and extra rest for us being the difference, could be the opposite though as we could lose momentum after the bye

I would rather be coming off a bye and not having travelled than be the team coming off two six day breaks and travelling from Perth/Tasmania/Perth/Melbourne.

The key for West Coast is going to be making the running early and getting a score up. I think we will be in hang on mode in the last quarter due to fatigue so having to try and chase down a deficit seems improbable to me.

Cripps and Hill need to have big games and work really hard both ways. If those guys can get on the board early and force the Tigers rebounding players to play tighter it will be a big win tactically.

If Gov doesn't get up we are going to need the mids to work much harder than they have the past few weeks. If Richmond can generate quality i50 I think we are on toast.

I'm not going to be gutted if we lose this one...as long as we show some signs of addressing some of those worrying signs that have reared in the past few weeks before we run out of legs.

Having said that...if we do the above and can get our goal kicking sorted out we could do enough damage to win before half time! I think it's a shame that two form sides are meeting under such mismatched lead ups.

Brings up a good point that I've been thinking about the last few days.

It's not up for debate whether Darling is better than McInness.

But both Kennedy and Darling are better suited playing closer to goals. Does that make our Forward line too crowded? Does McInness's inclusion as a CHF clear more space so the midfielders can pinpoint better i50?

Interesting topic I thought.
