Changing teams

I note that one of BF's erstwhile Eagles supporters has decided to jump ship, citing personal reasons for their change in allegiance to the Dockers.

Frankly, I'm staggered that some of the reponses have been so anodyne. Almost like waving somebody off on a day trip to Rotto and hoping they have a good time.

Sorry, I'm not that charitable.

A supposed supporter has "given up" supporting the Eagles and gone to the Dockers. I can cop people choosing to support the Dockers at the time of their inception - that's a given, but I'm buggered if I can understand coming out of the closet this far down the track.

And I'm sure any self respecting, die hard Docker fan would and should view this type of recruit with unease and suspicion. I mean who's it going to be mid-season? St Kilda? or maybe the Power by finals time? they look like a nice team.

Previously I posted a cryptic reference to "salt losing its flavour" and what it's good for after that - nothing.

You either support a team or you don't - anything less commands zero respect - from all sides.

the other aspect is do you support the TEAM or do you follow it for its supporters? ie if the supporters give u crap if u support the team u dont care, if u dont support the team but care what the other supporters think, you bail. Quite sad really

If you used to support us, you never did.

If you change from one team, what's to say you won't change to another.

If I feel weirded out because someone thinks differently from me, it might help if I publicly vilify them.

If I feel offended, perhaps reaching around for a bunch of cliches will make me feel better. Maybe even some scripture.

Actually I'd like to think its like waving somebody off on a day trip to Rotto and hoping the boat sinks. You might be nice at the time, but clearly you have no respect for them.

The former "erstwhile Eagles supporter" can go support the Dockers all she likes. However if she's serious then in my opinion she's in the Spiderthing category of supporters - lightweight and disloyal and not someone I want on board. A true supporter would never change their colours regardless of anything they thinks about their fellow supporters.

If you were an Eagles supporter who jumped to the Dockers you'd better have done it in '95 in my opinion or you have no credibility.

Uncharitable enough for you Exeter?

Why so surprised..... Fremantle's whole makeup of supporters are those who "jumped ship" Unless a Freo supporter is about 10 years old... eg: They were born and wasn't supporting another AFL club prior.... then 98% of Fremantle supporters supported another AFL club... whether it was Eagles or whoever. If ever you are going to have a turncoat... then Fremantle Dockers are the club they are going to go and support cos there are already so many of them around.

Obviously, every club is going to have people on the fringes who are going to go missing when things get tough and/or something shinier comes along. Doesn't affect the way I support my team - I'm not going to point a gun at anyone's head. If they go, they go.

Note the 'if' - talk really doesn't come any cheaper than at this time of year. I suspect that this can all be attributed to a bit of a tantrum, but even if it isn't - so it goes.

I not sure how to react to tell you the truth. She has caught me on the hop a bit.
I may feel more aggreived if (heaven forbid) someone went the other way but once you have a taste of purple there is no going back.

I would not call her a Fly by night ship jumper as she has been very upfront about it, which you can only applaud. The poor girl was obviously upset with the way some of you ticked her off and instead of grovelling a bit (or a lot) we got a round of spanking jokes. As you get older and understand women a bit that was probably the worst thing anyone could of said to cheer her up.

I actually miss her as it was obvious that she had far more (misdirected at the time ) passion than anyone else on this board.

Only Sera knows what she want's really but I suspect that instead of vilifing her you bloke groveled a bit (lot) it would make it easier to return on the off chance that she did this on the spur of the moment.

I for one am happy to respect whatever decision she makes.

So lets have an end to any bitchiness.

Just assuming that was all true, seriously, just imagine that situation in reverse- if some fellow followers of freo made fun of you, would you, on that basis, switch teams? Would any serious supporter of any team do that?

For what its worth, I'd view any Freo supporter who stood up and announced they wanted to support the Coast with something pretty close to disgust.
Its your team, support it- as far as I'm concerned, allowing for a little bit of adolescent drift/rebellion against what your parents follow, by the time you hit 20 or so, you make your choice and you stick with it. Anything else is the sign of a pretty weak individual.

I never had any problem with her, and she's free to support whoever she chooses, but frankly, someone who runs out on a team due to a perceived personal slight by one or two supporters of that team is a pretty poor excuse for a footy fan. Frankly, I'd be embarassed to have that sort of bandwagoneer support my team. You're welcome to her.

The reason I ask is that I have not seen anything that suggests that Sera has switched camps? The best I could see was her threat and her saying that purple is looking tempting. I just saw this as an emotional reaction but nothing to serious at the time?

Is my research faulty or have we mis interpreted Sera's comments?
