Few things i saw of note.

firstly, broken record i know, but the WA media is a disgrace.
they had an interview with hasleby, asking about the young kids being rested, and it basically showed hasleby disagreeing with everything harvey had said about resting the young kids. the way it was edited was a joke. but you have to wonder what hase is thinking, this isnt the first time he has pubicly disagreed with harvey. if it comes to it and the club isnt big enough for the two of them, id much rather see hase go than harves, but it may not come to that

secondly harvey was tight lipped about lyon scoffing at a freo resurggence, i think harvs will use lyons comments as a spur for the boys

and thirdly the dockers are odds on favourites which surprises me, hopefully it is justified

Was Harvey actually saying he would be rested?

Hase seemed to just be taking the opinion of the player, in he was saying I wouldn't want to be rested in my first year. Don't think there was anything there really.

the two contexts where completly different. Hase was more TIC saying how Palmer won't want a rest and Hase saying he'd leave him in anyway.

harves said earlier in the week that palmer would be rested in the coming weeks, the way i saw it was that hase basically said that he wouldnt do that at all if hase was coach. i just wonder whther hase should sometimes either shutup, or agree, even if he doesnt believe it, to show a unified front.

it couldnt hurt for him to agree with harves for once. thats just the way i saw it

do we really think freo are still trying to win games or do you think there not too fussed either way due to the benefits of losing.
If they win its good for morale etc
if they lose its good for draft so there not bothered what happens

On form and teams im thinking of betting on a freo win and also tipping them in tips.

Just worried that there not too worried if they win or lose so may not have players in right spots and effort required to win.

pav, mcpharlin, hayden, grover, solomon, bell, crowley, j.carr, sandilands you can never question whether they want to win

ibbotson, mayne, and palmer, all have youth on their side, they will always want to win

schammer, tarrant, mark johnson, warnock and dunn are trying to justify their selection, i honestly believe they will be doing everything they can to win

michael johnson, david mundy, peake, murphy, farmer, well to be honest i dont know if any of them care. and i think they are the problem.

i can garauntee though, mark harvey, scott, wallace, bond they will all be desperate to prove themselves..... they do not want to lose

As a young player I wouldn't want to be rested but I'm sure he would of been told that he will be,also it's better than being dropped due to form.At least he can be guarranted come back in a couple of weeks.
Mij doesn't care!!! :D

been ok the last few weeks, i still question him though, seems to have come from the mundy school of intensity

It's absurd to even speculate that we wouldn't be trying to win. Like just after the half way mark of the season Harvey & co are going to put the cue in the rack? I mean how does the thinking go? Oh well we might lose 5000 members who won't sign up next year, destroy the confidence of our playing group and alienate the supporters we keep but hey the upside is we get to draft a couple of 18 year olds who may or may not ever be good players.
This whole tanking thing is such a beatup and it's being fueled by idiots on Big Footy. Just about every stupid story that's been on tele or in the paper is an echo of some baseless rumour started by a 12 year old in Bay 13. Josh Carr going home, Mundy, Warnock leaving, Macca retiring, Bell is a destabilising influence at the club yada yada on it goes. I really think blogs are leading the mainstream media these days and it goes in circles. Someone starts a rumour here and it gets repeated back in the media a few days later by Barra or someone and we hear it and think it must be true cause it was on TV.
Anyway rant over I felt fantastic last week screaming TNT, I've been singing the club song all week and my feeling is that we will go out and smash the Saints and I couldn't be happier if we do. I don't believe there would be one single person at the club that would be wanting to lose this week. I mean do we want to be Richmond? years of wooden spoons and high draft picks and they are still rubbish.
As for the idea that Michael Johnson or Jeff Farmer don't care if we win ...
I can't think of anything to say to that.

i agree with everything you have said, although i would like to clear up. i never said the players that i mentioned didnt care, because im sure there is not one player in the afl that doesnt want to win, it is just that their demeanor and performance sometimes seems to be a bit casual.
paul reiffel copped the same stigma through his cricket career, the fact is some players just look casual
the reason i have been disappointed in farmer, bar last week, was that his tackling and one percenters this year have been way down. i still think that he wants to win, its just he hasnt been his usual self. mundy and mijohnson have always looked casual... i think too casual some times

For all those of you who are wetting your pants over this tanking biz - we got Palmer at 7 and he has been outstanding
Pav at 4, he manages to get a kick every now and then
How many number 1 picks have turned out to be the best in their year?
I would have thought that we will probably be around pick 4 this year. I expect Melbourne to be last, then Essendon, WCE and possibly us. But anything can happen. Win tomorrow, then next week and we can easily get on a roll and finish a few spots higher.

Sweet.

I expect my research on Karl Langdon Hansen being included in the Eagles side as evidence of them tanking, to be in the West tomorrow. I don't think even the Eagles can refute that.

the weagles are tanking, everyone knows it. why else would you drop three of your best mids for a very winnable game.... a disgrace

Well, one wasn't dropped. He was allowed to go to his brother's wedding.

I don't get the fuss though. There are perhaps 4-6 top picks this year that are just as good as each other, and just as useful to us. I think we will get past the 5 wins though, which is going to give a lot of people mixed feelings...

dont agree with tanking what so ever

much better to get a winning culture an just because you have a couple of spots higher in the draft doesnt mean u will get the better player.

plus it feels so much better coming home from the game as a winner.

just worried with so much talk about draft being not much help to struggling teams in the next few years that coaches may think winning or losing isnt important an will be more interested in trying players in diff spots or playing them on guys they never would normally.

Also on the eagles tanking pretty sure i heard something about if kerr plays he will be playing on Ablett.
I cant see him doing a tagging role so it will be a shootout to see who can get the most disposals instead of trying to shut him down.
Sounds like tanking to me

i would say we are going to get a top 5 pick, im sure that no matter who we go for, we will get someone pretty good

I would rather have an established winning culture with the current player list than a losing one, banking on some kids coming in an making us a winning team (how likely is that?).

Besides if a team tanks what sort of confidence does that give the players. "ok boys, you guys are pretty much crap, so we are going to just let you run through the motions, get some newbies in the draft and basically give you the arse next year"

Tanking is a myth. Simply put if you are out of the finals race you are better off playing your youngins to give them experience, rest your big name players so you might get a few more years out of them. You may lose more than you win in terms of games, but you will end up with an overall more experienced side.

There is a small part of me that secretly wants to believe it could be '06 again. you know win all the remaining games. Hopefully scrape into the 8 and perhaps, because we are the form team, do some damage in the finals. How awesome would it be to be the team that wins it from 8th. A pipe dream i know, but you have to hope for something.:p

I wish i could share your enthusiasm. There's 10 games to go, realistically we'd only be able to lose 1 of them if we were to be any chance. Having Geelong and Sydney away, amongst others, would make that a pretty tough ask. Not impossible, but pretty darn hard.

If we can win all our home games - personally i think they're all very winnable - plus pick up 1-2 away games i'd be pretty happy. Not happy with the season as a whole of course, just happy with how the boys have finished it off. That'd probably see us finish up anywhere from 10th to 12th.
