flicked to AW today to hear eva practically screaming down the mic.

Yeah nah, Bruce Eva is starting to shit me a bit. :D His contrived urgency often reaches the level of someone reporting from the Middle East in front of a volcano and the detonation of a nuclear bomb, telling us that WW3 has broken out, and that a 500km-wide comet is gunna hit the Earth

maybe some more learned, or those who have watched more coverage than I can comment.

turned on this morning and for some reason knobface slater was showing highlights of a team of yesteryear singing true blue after a win. what was the point of that? and are ch 9 commentators showing more and more highlights of themselves this year?

I already miss the days where replays of wickets would be shown in full and uninterrupted, stop ******* around with that shitty technology you're so proud of yet don't seem to realise it's a massive wank and looks cartoonish on SD anyway.

It adds absolutely no insight or interesting perspectives whatsoever.

Yep. This, this & this. Surely the bloke that is in charge of this area has no idea about cricket. You'd learn through having no footage instead of watching that rubbish.

Slater was singing Bon Jovi moments ago. He is a self obsessed w@nker.

And yet when they talked to Bill at tea yesterday, you couldn't listen to someone more humble.

The contrast between old and new is terrible

classic chapelli a couple of days ago regarding k okeefe. Slater telling the story that kok tells at sportsmans nights about opening the batting in the 2nd innings of the centenary test. basically took them 3 hours to decide between kok and mccosker with a broken jaw. chapelli: well ahh i think kerry may be ahhh embellishing the ahhh truth there as my brother greg would have been in charge of the batting order. really ian no shit. its called having a personality and actually telling a funny story not some boring ****ing anecdote about tiger o reilly. why kok is pulling up stumps and not this bore puzzles me

In cricket there's a lot of time where bowlers are walking back to the mark, etc, and commentators have to fill in the time with something.

Why?

The sounds of the ground are infinitely preferable to the continuous drone of useless crap. They know this on Sky, as a result it's much nicer to listen to them when they do have something to say.

Yep, I'd really hoped the Australian commentators had learnt from that after we had the Sky feed in the winter. Apparently not.

Exactly. The TV coverage provides vision which is exactly why we don't need non-stop talk. It's almost like 9 pay them by the word instead of by the hour.

I don't understand why Bill Lawry isn't held in higher esteem among the Australian public, and isn't a part of the Australian National Living Treasures list. He's an icon. A great Victorian, and a great Australian ;)

slater - no such thing as a dead rubber.

im sure dead rubbers were mentioned many a time when s waugh was playing (that era) when we would lose such tests.

The last test Slater played was a dead rubber that we lost. He should know all about them.
