As a neutral (Dogs) fan, Chapman is one of favourite Cats after Scarlett (I generally like backman) and of course Mooney.

Just posted on an AFL thread about his quality alongside Brad Johnson (no small accolade) and just query why he doesn't have a higher profile?

Living in Sydney I've only seen him live a couple of times and he's great to watch, along with Scarlett and Mooney. Does some flash stuff but also a lot of heavy duty stuff, which I respect.

Anyway, Merry Xmas to all Cats fans and look forward to RD 1 2007 - our last two encounters were tremendous.

I think people are aware of his ability, but he doesn't have that 'x factor' like a Gary Ablett Jnr etc who get all the media attention.

Chapman is one of my favourite players. I want to kis his little bald head.

Being from the Benny Hill school I would rather slap it with silly sound effects added.

Just kidding - Chapman is an absolute gun. Him and Scarlett are our two best players by a fair way.

He tends to get overlooked by the media because he doesn't fit the image they like to portray of Geelong. He's one of the toughest, most determined players going around and he's also very fair. The media find it hard to criticise him which is what they love to do to Geelong players. I think you'd find the Sun writers consider Chris Tarrant to be a harder player!
 
I was watching my 2004 seasons highlights DVD for the umpteenth time yesterday (yes, I was bored), and the thing I noticed was how many goals the guy kicks across his body. I think they only showed 2 goals where he kicked straight at goal, and both times he was running into an open goal. I know they only show the goals on these types of DVDs, but thinking back I can't remember too many times that he's missed from a snap at goal.

I guess Dwayne Russell got it right in his commentary in one of the matches on that DVD..."Paul Chapman! Know's where they are!"

yeah I have to agree with that. But one thing is for sure there is not one Geelong supporter that doesn't respect his hardness, ability and leadership. He was one of the few bright lights in 2006.

Don't think he goes unnoticed Dry Rot - he has all the attributes we'd like to see in all Geelong players - the Bulldogs have a number of Chapman-type players. I agree that he is underestimated by many journos but they have their own faves and Chappy would appear to be a bit media-shy. He is an absolute gun and you sense the expectation in the crowd when he goes near the ball - we are rarely disappointed.

Probably so - but I've seen him avoid the press - waving away microphone welding journalists on a number of occasions - perhaps he's learnt from the St Kilda indiscretion - and I assume you mean in 2005.
