Paul Chapman's repeated upper-body punches on Liam Picken during Saturday night's 101-point crunching of the Western Bulldogs will be another test case for the panel, particularly in lieu of the fall-out from the hefty suspension handed out to St Kilda's Steve Baker for his niggling tactics on Steve Johnson.

Is there anything to worry about? How bad were the punches? At the game I couldn't see much although Triple M were saying Chappy was clearly frustrated in the first quarter, possibly by Picken's tagging.

Re: Chappy's punches

I'm wondering about this too.

I didn't see much at the game either, however KB & Patrick Smith were trying to whip it up a bit on SEN this morning- Patrick believed that Chappy should get suspended because of 'repeated punches' to Picken's chest. He also gave Chappy 'goose of the week' for his actions.

Re: Chappy's punches

The difference between Chappy and Baker is that his were to the body not the head.

IMO he could easily be sighted in the same manner as Baker but each charge would carry less points as contact is to the body not head.

Re: Chappy's punches

looked worse when i was watching the slomo replay on game day..
could go either way considering MRP have NFI

Re: Chappy's punches

you wouldnt think so but then again, as we all say, you never know with the MRP.

They (punches) didnt seem to be forceful enough to warrant a suspension IMO.
If Chappy's intent was to hurt him he would have. Clearly Picken wasnt hurt as a result

Re: Chappy's punches

When you break Baker's suspensions down, I think it was about 1 week for each punch... and I think most of them hit the head (apart from the hand one). It was his 50% loading or whatever it was that had him gooone.

For Chappy, I think only one or two of those punches were with strongish force, and none of them hit the head.

Hopefully, he'll just get some minor points and they won't register a full week off.

Then again, Chappy is worth resting a week I think... So if he gets one, I'm good.

Re: Chappy's punches

Hopefully the MRP will be too busy looking at Picken's unnecessarily high hit on Selwood in the second quarter.

But then again, Selwood probably ducked.

Re: Chappy's punches

I thought there was plenty of force.

Has to get 2 for that. He was being smacked to the ground consistently at clearances and was provoked but it was pretty stupid.

He will go for that. It was dumb.

Re: Chappy's punches

Picken didnt appear effected by the blows, shouldnt be a problem...:):cool:
it's doubtful that billy jnr will pick on chappy again in the future.

Re: Chappy's punches

What about Ottens' shepherd on Griffin? Looked okay to me, but the media were throwing it around trying to make something of it.

As they tend to do. The AFL must surely inform the TV networks (and other media sources) to focus on this.
I find it a bit disturbing that the footy review shows on the weekend gasbag on about possible MRP sightings before game results.

This is the one I am worried about. Looked like a beautiful, fair bump to me, but who knows with the MRP. The worry is if Otto gets suspended, he will miss out on the match fitness he needs for finals.

Not too worried about Chappy. If he gets a week or two that's fine, the weeks off will be good.

Re: Chappy's punches

They were just jumper punches from what I saw, nothing to it, very little force, just a little physical banter, if you will. I would be surprised to see him get weeks.
Good to see The Age picked the most incriminating photo possible:

But I can do that too:

Re: Chappy's punches

If Chappy happened to get a week, or even two, it might be a blessing (a breather before the finals)

It will be interesting to see how the MRP adjudicates between Chappy's punches to the chest, and Picken's reckless head contact on Selwood.

Re: Chappy's punches

3 weeks please ;):D

That first picture isnt going to bode well for him. baker got a week or two for one to the stomach, so IF they are consistent, chappy will also with reduction for his past good bahaviour

Pay that! :thumbsu:

Well for me i'd like to see 3 weeks or 0

Have him in SC and hav a huge prelim to win, so I'd like him in for that thanks, lol

But if he goes, may as well be 3 so he's out of the first final, but that won't happen. Reprimand is all it's worth. Maybe a week for letting a scrag like Picken get inside his head ;)

Re: Chappy's punches

pickens a tough kid, he probably has knuckle size bruises on his ribs, other taggers would have dived or fallen...chappy does pack some punch (sorry for the pun)

i think hell get two weeks and with an early plee get it reduced to one, and the cats management will happily give chappy a rest..

Re: Chappy's punches

Lets face it, the MRP is a lottery. It just depends if your number gets called.
