Gary Munn has had a lot of justifiable complaints leveled at him. He ran that cheers squad like his own private marfia and personally bullied out anyone who challenged him in any way, including myself and my family. It's no surprise the numbers have been in steady decline.

If it's true that the club have managed to get rid of him, then three ****ing cheers IMO.

Probably because his mum "started up" the cheer squad, so maybe he feels like he owns it if what you say above it true. Then good on the club for acting on this. We don't need people taking "ownership" or bullying other members. As far as I know, the cheer squad is the clubs, and for all fans, not just a select few.

Might explain the steady decline in numbers and why people refuse to join up.

The cheer squad area should be open to any member on the day, first in best dressed, but the member has to be wearing red white and blue and must prove to the cheer squad coordinator that they can make barking noises. Upon entry, every member will be handed a squeaky dog toy that shall be squeezed every time the Dogs kick a goal.
 
Last time I checked, there was nothing that said the cheer squad leadership group was a position for life - like the pontiff for example. The cheer squad are there to directly drum up support. The leadership of the cheersquad are not achieving this. They are and have been for a while, in decline. Time for a change. The club has got this right. Again.

I've been a member for 25+ years and have never in that time felt inclined to join the cheer squad. It has never appeared like an inviting or welcoming place to watch the footy from. An insular clique would be my description.

With the pending changes, I will certainly have another look at it.
 
I was embarrassed all those years that the cheer squad insisted on "woof woof woof" when we kicked a goal. I had to tell my family that "I don't woof" and I don't have a tail either. In the years since that chant slipped into the dustbin of history, nothing else has been conceived. Surely we can get something new and original going, but probably not with folks who have been in the same role for decades.

That's no good. I would hate to see supporters treated unfairly esp after so many years of service to the club but hard to judge without knowing the full story.
 
I never knew the club actually had that much control of the cheer squad, always thought it was a separate loose arrangement.
Any way the two guys who were a big part of it put in a lot of their own time and I think should be congratulated on their commitment, but like most things now and then you need change to freshen things up but it looks like it's got personal and I have no idea what goes on with the political running of it.
It would have been better if it could have been done amicably, maybe they tried?. I hope the 2 fellas don’t stop supporting the dogs.
 
Don't know why , But I cringe seeing 40 plus guys in cheer squads. Surely it's for the young ones to have a bit of fun.
Do we need anymore Joffas ? One a bloody one too many.

The Western Bulldogs Cheer Squad has been responsible for some disgraceful things in the past couple of years. As such, the club and the cheer squad have been butting heads quite a bit in recent times. Great move by the club to dump the idiots and narcissists who oversee it all and employ their own leadership structure that they can control and monitor.

For the majority, belonging to a cheer squad is nothing short of an ego trip for those who like to take some sort of moral superiority and show the rest of us how much more they care about their club. They're all very sure of their own importance on match day and in the general running of the club.

In saying that, the irony when Porter talks about being the club's 'number one supporter' after running to the Herald Sun to bash the club and make claims like 'I won't be going to the footy anymore'. Turn it down Porter, you tosser. This guy doesn't care about the club, he cares about himself.

On a side note; 'Macca our taskmaster'. Jesus Christ. Is this what Porter and Munn have been doing all these years? I couldn't think of anything more cringe worthy.

Our supporter base, and most particularly our cheer squad, is by far the worst in the league. Our fan culture is non-existent. This is progress.
 
In reading the email that BRG93 recieved as a member of the squad, I believe the club has made the right decision.

I am not privy to the inner workings or the squad and to be honest, was totally ambivalent to the role that they play game day, other than the effort put into creating the banner each week.

Clearly the club were not happy with the current management of the squad and have stepped in to remediate it. We are are professional sporting organisation and I applaud them for continuing to make the tough decisions that align our visions for the betterment of our club.

Thank you very much to David Porter and Gary Munn for the tireless work and effort that they have put in over the years and I trust that once the anger of the situation subsides, they can see this decision is no different than the one made about Daniel Cross this year.

Go Dogs!
 
Just won't be the same not seeing the "fat guy" in the Dogs cheer squad.

This may or may not be the case for these two blokes, but in my experience those who often take up volunteer management/official type positions are not the people you actually want filling them.

I've come across countless volunteer officials across sporting codes that are clearly only in it for some sort of strange power trip to make up for a void or other failures in their life.

I'll accept that there is probably the occasional exception, but the aforementioned people discourage others from volunteering their time.

Who is the red-headed kid that sits row 1 behind the goals, btw?

I see him everywhere. Away from Etihad he looks like his mum still ties his shoelaces for him, but during games I always look down and see him completely losing his shit. He kind of irritates me, tbh.

Im extremely vocal at the footy. Reason i don't sit at the cheer squad is simply because i hate the view. Plain and simple. I appreciate all the work they do behind the scenes. I just think more people around the ground need to get vocal. Let's take round 23 this year as a stepping stone. It was really great to hear and be a part of the passionate chant going around Etihad.

Also i have trialed this chant to the theme of our house to no effect but i continue to do it up on level 2 lol.

Dahlhaus he puts it through the big sticks,
Dahlhaus his got us licking our lips.

Feel free to add lol.
 
Our game is so fast that there is no time for too many words or barmy army-type songs. Two or three words, easily heard so that surrounding people have no trouble picking them up and copying them, are enough. The simpler the better, which is why Cooooooons has been taken up so well.

Agree. It's also the worst place in the stadium to watch the game from. (refer to my post in the 'not worth a thread' thread)

I can only assume that the people that sit there care more about being part of the something than they do about football. I understand these two things are intrinsically linked but have you wondered why ALL cheer squads are filled with a stranger sort of crowd?

Seen him at a game once and on TV a couple times. I have no idea who he is. He certainly gets pretty excited, though.

More importantly, who is the guy that looks like a very portly Ryan Griffen? He's always on TV getting real animated. He's fantastic.
