Being a Hawthorn supporter, I have seen some tough times. I went to 18 games in 2004 and saw 3 wins:eek:. The hard times make you stronger and make the good times so much sweeter. I'm not convinved your season is over after one game. While I don't think your top-8 material, I do believe you have what it takes to challenge some top sides.

Basically, my reason for posting this is reading some comment's from Melbourne fans saying they've had enough etc. My message is not to jump off, your club needs you. Go each week even if you know you will get pumped. It mightn't be much fun but as I said, it makes the good times so much better. Cheers guys and good luck for the rest of the season:thumbsu:.

Yeah thanks mate, what a lot of people don't realise is that a win against the Dogs on Saturday and suddenly we are 1-1 and our season is back on track.

It probably won't happen but you never know. :D

And just to add to this, if you think back to 2004.... we were coming off a dismal 2003 and were belted by the Hawks in rd 1. Doom and gloom beckoned but we came out the next week and gave the inform Tigers an almighty flogging.

Mr.Positive signing out.

i remember that all too well but i hope the dees find some form look on the bright side it cant get much worse well at least thats what i keep telling myself as a richmond supporter.

thanks arads, but I'm not too happy.
I'll continue to support the Dees but I'm not crazy, we are in for a bad year. After a round one 100+ loss I am entitled to feel completely negative regarding the year ahead. I'm not really excited about waiting another 2-3-4?? years for another top 4 caliber list (which we had in 04-> 07 IMO).

Back in 04 when the Hawks won 3 games all year did you stay positive? were you thinking... WOW 2008 and is gonna be sweet and it's only four years away YEAH!

I'm not saying we will lose every week, we will win some games but the finals look a long way away. It's obvious that our list is lopsided and will take some time to re build.

anyway.... we'll see what happens.

Its just that everyone was really excited pre season about how the boys were going to perform. New coaching staff and from all reports there seemed to be a real desire to get things back on track down at the club. We all chose to ignore there pre season form thinking Bialey was getting the boys primed fro rd 1 lol. Then yeah what happened on Sunday was embarrassing and pretty sad really. I know most of the guys posting on this board will turn up every week but were not like other clubs, our supporters are pretty fickle.

Obviously staying positive early in a rebuilding process is extremely hard, especially if you are copping beltings each week. Obviously, knowing success is a few years away is tough at the present stage, but it does offer some consolation.

Looking back to our position, 2004 was almost as bad as it gets. Sacked coach, 4 wins etc. Success seemed light years away. But almost as soon as AC was appointed coach, he got rid of all the 'bad wood' and started developing the nucleus of a side that would have success in future years. Watching this develop was indeed very exciting and was certainly a positive to draw from a lot of heavy losses. It got to a stage in late 2004 and certainly 2005 where I was pleased with a good effort, even if we lost. As long as the team stood up and showed they gave 100%. I strongly believe that I am enjoying our current success a lot more then the bandwagoners out there, that only sign up when were winning. At least I can say I was there when there were only 11k to watch us cop a flogging against the Power in 2004 and stayed till the end for numerous 70-90 point floggings.

I'm not suggesting things are as dire with you guys. You still have alot of the players that took you to finals success a couple of seasons back. But some level of rebuilding will have to take place. Success may seem a while away but there are always positives to be taken from any loss. Try and look foward to the future, knowing that if you rebuild properly, you will be a highly competitive outfit once more.:thumbsu:

thanks mate at least u remember the past not like a few of the other hawks supporters who are very quick 2 throw the boots in even after they went through something very similar

I can remember the bad times too. If my memory serves me right, (I hope)
we were flogged last year by the Lions in the 1st round..I think we only kicked one goal up till half time.. I stand to be corrected if I am wrong, but I don't think I am. We were appalling, and at the time I thought "Oh no, here we go again" The next week we turned round and beat Geelong.
As Robbo said," there is always next week to rectify ourselves."
Stick to supporting your club, they need their supporters. Just as our club needs our supporters. :thumbsu:

No Melbourne supporter here on BF has the plums to jump off this footy club. Melbourne is like a shitty girlfriend who keeps letting you down. Yeah alright the bad tend to outweigh the good but we keep coming back for more. We won't give up on the old girl...Maybe because we're weak and push overs, maybe cause we can't pull anyone else or maybe because deep down our optimism will never die out. Oh she's a massive tease as well.

We'll always be there, week after week of 10 goal plus losses. Cause there's no alternative.

I love Melbourne, even if Melbourne doesn't love me back

The way i see it
This year bottom 4 finish
End of year: Clean out the older players: Yze, Neitz, Miller, Robbo etc.
Employ young leadership group: Jones (capt), McLean (vc), Rivers, Petterd

Will take another few years of finishing down the bottom after that but boy, will we be better off for it. Will be able to have our first real crack at a premiership since 1964

Has it been 4 years for the Hawks? Wow, it has, but it has seriously flown by. During the past 4 years, I've gone to most games and concentrated on the young kids coming through and the future structure of our team etc. I've also been a lot more interested in the draft. We had an untried coach who took a couple of seasons to develop.

All I'm saying is that these low times will be long forgotten once you start to get some excitement back into the place. Keep looking for that sparkle of hope. Trade with the Kangaroos and pick up, I don't know, 2 first rounders for Robbo at the end of the year...that'll make you smile, believe me.
Just don't jump off now, everyone has a soft spot for the Dees.

I remember that game, both teams were terrible but we somehow won easily, wasn't a form guide for the rest of that year though.

Smile? If they somehow pulled off that deal I'd crack an Ararat.

Holy Shit CD, if that doesn't get everyone back on board nothing will. I might even steal some of that for my signature.:) Great stuff lol.:thumbsu:

Ah my friend, if only everything in life circulated around money. How easy would life be if some rich mofo Russian oil tycoon invested in Melbourne and pumped squillions into the club.

...2-1, 2-1, 2-1, 2-1:D

But we'll fook up the Bulldogs this weekend. I have a sneaky suspicion. We're not actually THAT bad, just lack the ticker
