Global Warming is just a way for environmental groups to get into government's ears about their smaller causes, like falling trees. The only trouble is, that now Ruddy and Co. have signed of on Kyoto and have a document drawn up on how they are going to hit these so-called targets, you, and I are going to pay big $$$.
Where does the money go? Straight into government coffers.
How does it reduce carbon footprints? It doesnt. You need to stop using power in a world where Plasma Tvs and other high powered devices are the norm rather than the exception. In a world where we (Aus) put out less than 1 percent of the total carbon emissions.
When will the O-Zone layer be repaired as a result of our monetary contributions? Probably never. Or not in a measurable future, anyway.
And the biggest and most important question, IMHO, is will any of us, or indeed our great great great grandchildren's great grandchildren ever see the effect of our "P1ss in the ocean" clean up? No way. Man will destroy itself before the world starts to "Recover" from "Man's Destruction".

Good post especially regarding kyoto. The targets set seem unrealistic. Not sure what is going to happen when we fall drastically short of the interim targets.
Personally it feels like just another grab by the federal parliament at the residual powers of the states.

Had you used the green angle, I may have had to unleash a diatribe of verbal dioharea the likes of which have rarely been seen on this website. LOL
You know, the type that involves me spraying you for being a Uni student following all the green teachings from the lecturns of way too far left, radical, former hippy, dreadlock-wearing, sponges on society that they like to call themselves....... Teachers, Lecturers or Professors.
Fair dinkum, if they taught what they were supposed to teach, instead of finding a way, during a Calculus lecture to talk about how some spotted green growling quoll may be in danger in a land mass measuring roughly 3ha sq, our young people wouldnt be so upset with the world that they pump their bodies full of drugs and try to fight anyone they can lay a hand on, on any given day/night of the week.
But I dont have to go on like that because you see the nonsense in it all.

Yeah all my lecturers are definitely liberal. Most of them used to be lawyers so they are not going to be left wing. Got to say my school teachers at haileybury seemed right wing too, although you might find that changes at public schools and with lecturers.

Nah. No Uni. Straight A's in Form 5. Major Fail Form 6 due to copious amountsof sex and alcohol. I make no appologies. Ive done alright for myself even though I didnt go.
They vote Liberal to fit in with the crowd. Have you guys ever heard of a group called Doctor and Lawyers For Forests? Typical of these types really. They go through life being the good guys and curing people, representing people etc, but their menacing ways are fed by their desire to feed enormous amounts of money into green organisations such as the Wilderness Society etc.
They fund environmental radicals defense cases in court after they have been in and destroyed $5m worth of logging equipment. You guys have no idea. Of course I am not talking about all Doc and Lawyers. But they are out there, make no mistake.
I worked for the CFMEU as a Union Official for 4 years in the Forestry sector. I know red raggers are on the left, however most are not as radical as hard-core greenies. Some of the environmental sabbotage I came across in the bush logging coupes can only be described as Attempted murder. And believe me, these bastards have courses designed to teach up and coming greenies all the ropes.
Even in high school (I went to a public school) in the 80s we were getting Ozone holes and habitat destruction and the threat of sea levels rising by 50 metres by the end of the century.
Yeah, that really happened.

While there is no doubt that some steps need to be taken to preserve the environment for future generations, as you said a lot of the time the greenies use illegal and immoral methods to get their points across. However you can't argue with the success they have had in getting their point to the mainstream public. Environmental preservation is such a major issue issue now with the community now and even the major corporations are having to implement serious strategies to help preserve it.
Many other radical groups seem to use the same strategies used by the greens now (I am looking at you cruelty to animal groups). I wish they would just tone it down a bit. Surely there are some less in your face ways to deliver a message.

I would like to know how many greenies fought in the recent bushfires...it would be pretty low compared to the amount of logging people that were out there providing firebreaks, clean up etc....

Its pretty close to my heart, mate. Watching wallabies "greenies hiding in the scrub" all of the sudden run out and into the exclusion path* of a tree that is being felled. All the while the faller is being filmed by another greenie, secretly, in the bush. They then show worksafe the video and the faller, if found guilty loses his job.
That is one of the mild things they will stoop to.

This is all for the safety of all people, both the private contractors and the public.
