Telling the panel how the Showdown is important because Port were really unhappy about Adelaide beating them to the first license and that was a farce because Adelaide had no history whereas Port was one club and should have had the license.

Then claimed Crows were going to flood and they would just have to wait it out and break them open in the second half.

And then he had another cry about having to get 'new, quality assistants' because his assistants went for 'more money' whereas Port was not the 'interstate club everyone thinks we are' and that their supporter base wasmore important than spending big money blah, blah, blah. (New, quality assistants? Mickan...McGuinness...Crows players and mediocre coaches...hahahaha)

He's won a premiership but he's still a very bitter, bitter man...the inferiority complex to the Crows is still in huge effect...

OMG William is still using that routine about the license, no-one cares it was about 15 years ago now. He must be running out of ideas.

As for losing assistants well that is how the world works it happens to plenty of other clubs didnt Port get Dean Bailey from the Essendon coaching staff?? Mark Williams left Essendon to come to Port so if he was whinging about losing assistants why did he leave Kevin Sheedy ??? Or is fine for Mark Williams to leave for greener pastures but not fine when it happens to him.

Sounds like another one of those hypocritical non thought out rants by Williams.

He is a very bitter, twisted man. You would have thought a premiership might sate him.

But I guess it will always grate that he can never change the fact that South Australia's first AFL premiers were the Adelaide Crows, no matter how many premierships Port win.

Williams just happens to be a very very competitive man who is always looking to gain an edge.

If we can get people into the Crows with half of his enthusaism, passion and pride in his club I'll be be extremely proud Crow supporter.

Give the man his due and stop slagging of at him because he happens to be opposed to the Crows - get some perspective!

In fairness, I think you have overreacted a bit to what hes said. He was asked a direct question regarding the origins of the rivalry , and he responded by saying that port went for the first license but the crows got it - I dont recall the word farce being mentioned.

And as for the "money" comment I think its a fair comment to say that we do not have the money of other interstate clubs - how often are we bagged on this forum for our inability to post large profits. Once again it was in response to a question about offfield staff leaving.

Have a go at him when its warranted, but I do think you went over the top.

Well said.

Having said that I thought today Craig trashed him as far as match day coaching goes.

Some of the moves Craig made today were pretty smart. The game started with Hentschel playing CHF and Perrie closer to goal. Wakelin picks up Perrie and Chad gets Hentschel. That was not the match up we wanted. Chad was starting to get a bit of it so Craig forces a better match up for us. He puts Hentschel to FF and Perrie to CHF. Port are forced to make a switch and we went on from there.

Don't know what all the fuss is about.

Didn't we let him have Mickan & McGuiness this year. ??
:D ... & aren't we happy about that too.

I missed Choco's press conference, but I was expecting him to say how Chadly's injury was the turning point of the game.

Got done by a better side on the day. Simple really.

You've basically quoted him.

Said a few blokes were underdone, but Adelaide were far too good on the day.

1. He should never have mentioned the licence issue from 15 years ago. I can't believe he did. Bucky probably even cringed and he's no longer with us. Greg Boulton would have rolled his eyes and Max and Leigh probably choked on their satay prawns.

2. I'm sick of him going on about other teams flooding, and then when they don't, not seeming to know what to do about it.

3. I thought it was crass to go on about the off field assistants leaving "for more money". It just wasn't necessary. All those guys were loyal employees of the club and did their job well. For whatever reasons they left, I thought those comments impugned their character.

So he's indirectly implying that his current assistants are being paid peanuts.

That's where it gets complicated, because only 1 left for a directly equivalent job. Andrew Russell - and the official line at the time there was he went for family reasons. Clarkson left to become a senior coach, Hardwick didn't have an off field job with us (altho he may have been offered one, which Hawthorn topped), Alan Stewart went to a FT role at Adelaide in a different capacity. Mostly they went for better opportunities and that was all he really needed to say, and to wish them well. The minute you talk about money, you make an implied comment about them - and as we see here - about their replacements.

Mostly I think Mark makes statements straight from the heart in the best interests of the club - and that's not a problem for me anyway ... this time I think he crossed the line.

The unofficial line that I heard on Russell was that he tried to get Hawthorn and Port into a bidding war. The other two left for other reasons though.

I don't like Mark Williams. He is smug, a smartarse and rarely gives credit to the opposition sides when they are beaten. I have no time for him at all. Therefore he can cry on Any Given Sunday or any other TV show and my opinion on him won't change.

I didn't think his comments were that bad. The licence thing is a huge source of angst between teh clubs and rightly so.

the comments on Stewart going for the money were probably a bit much. I think he tries to play on the Rich Crows, poor Port angle far too much.

His comments after the game were well put, and I applaud him for it. He didn't have much choice though.

Good comments, Ford. A bad habit of some leaders/managers is to take shots at people who have left, especially to go and work for the competition, about their capabilities or their motives for leaving. Those who are left behind know the truth (usually) and such comments only diminish their respect for the manager. Maybe it's a little different in the football world, but - no, it's not, it's still about people management.

I get the feeling that Choco was so convinced that the Crows gameplan really was a flood and that he had prepared for that so much (all talls in the forward line, no crumbers) that when the Crows actually hit the real (and attacking) gameplan they have been trying to get going that Choco had no plan B whatsoever.

Exactly. I can't believe it's a Port supporter backing me up and other Crows supporters in this thread bagging me. Ridiculous.

Just another example of why you are held in such high esteem among your fellow posters on BigFooty. :)
