Did brilliant things at Richmond and Dusty gives him a lot of credit for the player he is . Now at Melbourne and they love him and made a massive difference. A Collingwood great I think he would be a great coach. Thoughts

Yep, do it!!!
Premiership coach at Port and has only gotten better since then. Success follows him.

It`s a yes from me , Chocco is a passionate individual who knows how to push the right buttons from his players, great motivator with a great knowledge of the game, similar in mould to the late great Tom Hafey, brings positivity does Chocco, will make the place buzz again

This board has lost the plot.
He probably would be good in a backup type role but not as the main man. There's got to be a very good reason why, despite his being a Premiership coach, no other club has given him a go as the senior coach! We'll be making a change soon enough, but it won't be to this fellow!

This post about Choco below raised some eyebrows for me.

There’s no doubt he has his strengths, but I would tread carefully before appointing him in any capacity.

One of my favs as a player and thought he deserved a crack at being a Magpie coach... But that train has well and truly left the station.. in retrospect the divisiveness that seems to follow him around would not have helped...

Previous club affiliations should not be a factor. I can’t believe that would need pointing out to a collingwood person.

That said, basically anyone who has senior coaching experience and would be willing to favour youth would be ok for the rest of the year

Now we've nearly got the set:

Desperate for a new coach and panel
Ditto for key forward
Ditto for decent mids - with pace
Ditto for depth
Ditto for draft picks - seeing how we threw them under the bus like Ads, Stepho and Phillips
Ditto for game plan
Ditto for structure

All we need is desperation for decent backs and we'd well and truly have the set. Unless I spoke too soon and someone has already mentioned it?!

We do need to do away with the sanitary way we go about things, get some mongrel in the coaches box, some of our guys could use a good old fashioned spray......

Bucks, “I understand why you shirked that last contest, I’ll go away and work on my empowerment skills, it will allow you to be better next time”.

sick of the regurgitation of stats, I love stats but sometimes all that needs to be said, ”where’s the effort! you soft pricks, you should be ashamed, my grandma‘s shows more intent making pancakes“. I know a hostile workplace is a little un-PC but a slap here or there wouldn’t go astray.

Direct and honest feedback has nothing to do with PC.

Glad Mark Williams' name has been brought up...watching the new way the demons play one can't help but feel that he's already having an influence on Goodwin and the other Dee's coaches (not to mention their players).
"Chocco" might just be the broom/whirlwind/hurricane that's needed at the Pies for a few seasons (and that's usually his tenure these days) because he is BRUTALLY honest. Some people call a spade a spade, Mark then uses it as a shovel and buries people with it. He will not tolerate fools or incompetence, dishonesty or disloyalty.
He is also (as noted by Dusty) very, very good at empowering players with their own sense of self and emboldening their roles within a team. A few of the Pies players could do with a bunk up after having their lives micro-managed by the current regime.

I'd personally love to give Mark Williams a couple (2-3) years at the helm as he tutors a really smart operator (say a Giansiracusa, Mitchell or Caracella) as his eventual replacement. There'd be no cobwebs left after a couple of years of Chocco....

Ps....just to chuck more petrol on the fire...I always put Mark Williams in the "centre" of my "play for your life Best of Collingwood teams" because he was just a competitive beast as a player. I move Buckley to half back and Tony Shaw is the runner!

Interesting idea. Not sure why but Mark Williams reminds me of Diego Maradona when he coached Argentina. Always drew the camera. AFL coaches these need broad skills including PR/media relations and political skills. Buckley has some of these abilities and sticks to his guns.

You've almost convinced me.

The problem putting in someone who isnt a politician is that we're going to trend down before we can trend up. No coach can turn this around in a year. Collingwood fans are getting more like richmond fans with their shortsightedness. I doubt Williams would be given enough time by pie fans, if he doesn't say the right things to them. Williams mightnt buckle but the current board will be ducking for cover if we end up in the last 3 or 4.
