Why does he seem to give the handball away when he's in his right to have a go?

Had a decent game, needs to put some kg's on, but when he is in his right to have a shot he always just passes it off.

Is it that he isnt confident with his kicking distance?

Needs to know hes allowed to have a shot when he has the ball in the 50 and he has some space

No confidence in his shooting ability, quite annoying when we know he can at WAFL level.

It would've been nice to see him take a shot instead of passing a few times today but I think that the spirit of the Shane Parker is living on in his jumper. He gets the ball near the goals and just can't bring himself to go for the individual glory. No, that would bring far too much attention.

My love for Chopper grew substantially after Palmer missed that goal when he played on and snapped a point. Some Brisbane fool went up and started pushing Rhys around, but before Rhys got a chance to fight back Chopper was in the Brisbane bloke's face flying the flag and showing some real mongrel and aggression. It didn't seem to matter that he would inevitably be tossed aside like a rag doll, he just wanted to stand up for his mate and his club. Top marks (and then some) :thumbsu:

All three youngsters were good today but also showed the areas of their games they need to improve.

Palmer can work on his set shots at goal, Mayne needs to have the confidence to go himself and Ibbotson ahd that shocker in the back pocket to gift it to Johnston. Still damn happy with Mayne at a pick number 40 though.

Probably scared that if he misses, Pav will cry over it.

Looked to be much more confident today on the lead though. Not overshadowed, and looked to rove well. :thumbsu:

Still "oozes" Macmanus does he?

He has nothing to do with my nick, although I'll take it. :p

Chopper_is_a_must on our list for 5+ years.

Fastest at our club I'm pretty sure. Runs low 11s from what I hear, and would have the potential to go into the 10s if someone down there could actually teach players how to ____ing run!!!!

Chopper is fast becoming one of my favourite players. Always chases, puts in 2nd and 3rd efforts, he's hard at it, he presents, and seems to have a good footy brain.

His only downside seems to be this propensity to dish it off when he should just go back and take the kick. But I'm sure a young Michael O'Loughlin did the same thing when Plugga was at Full Forward....

FREMANTLE young gun Chris Mayne says he can’t wait to savour the winning feeling again after yet another hard-fought loss – this time by 22 points to the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba.

The 19-year-old was one of several positives to emerge from a game in which only a second-quarter lapse prevented Fremantle from being right in it at the finish.
Mayne had a career-high 20 possessions, seven marks and four tackles against the Lions, also kicking an impressive checkside goal in the last quarter.
”It’s a gut wrench feeling – like it has been each week we’ve lost,” Mayne said.

”I played in the western derby win earlier in the year and it was such a good feeling – I really do miss that feeling.
”Out of the six games I’ve played, five of them I’ve walked off the ground feeling down and torn apart.”
While Freo’s losing run now stretches to eight games, Mayne agreed with coach Mark Harvey that opposing sides would treat the 15th placed club lightly at their own peril.

Despite being 1-10, Fremantle has lost by more than five goals only once and on four occasions has been beaten by less than 10 points.

”We do get a bit of flak from the media and supporters of other clubs, but we don’t really think about it,” Mayne said.
”If you dwell on it too much it interrupts your footy. The boys just take it on the chin – we’ll prove them wrong sooner or later.

”Each week we get up for the next battle and if teams don’t take us seriously, they’ll have to look out.

Mayne bounced back from being pole-axed against Port Adelaide in round 11 to play against the Lions – only having stitches removed from his forehead on game day.

The Perth product was one of several youngsters – along with Rhys Palmer, Robbie Warnock and Garrick Ibbotson – praised by Harvey after the match.

”Along with the other young guys I just try and come out every game and do my role for the team,” Mayne said.
”I think all us young guys have been going okay and we’re just hoping to keep our spots in the team.

”We’re not far off (a win). If we’d won some of the games where we’ve only just lost, we could be in the top eight.

”We’re still a great club and we’re going to play some great footy in the future.”

Can't help but love him.

Mayne is exactly what we need in our forward line at the moment. some unpredictability, pace and ground level crumbing. He will get better with time. I think his lack of confidence to take shots at goals probably sums up the team at the moment. They are working hard to create opportunities, but lacking leaders other than Pav to turn the game.

Mayne's second and third efforts create the pressure we need. Im a big fan, and hope he stays in the team. Go chop.

Ibbotson had that shocker in the back pocket to gift it to Johnston.
Happened right in front of us. That ball was intended for Palmer. Ibbo kicked to position but Palmer had his back turned running away. Not so much Ibbo's fault as other players communicating with Palmer.

Only lacking some confidennce IMHO...
A few wins on the board and some more ecperience and he should come good...

Mayne makes an excellent 3rd tall forward. Would like to see Fremantle draft an absolute jet to play forward pocket. At the moment Farmer seems to have lost a yard of pace. If we could find an Alwyn or Aaron Davey, combined with Mayne the percieved forward pressure would be extraordinary.

Throw in the tall timber of Pavlich, Tarrant and cameo's from Sandilands and we'll have a better mix.

IMO Mayne compliments Pav and Tarrant better than Campbell, Murphy and Keplar combined.

Probably just doing the new guy to the team routine and passing off to his captain... i dont think there is much point is discussing this.

He does show alot though in terms of attitude and speed...

Wonder if he could be a decent mid in the future? Maybe allow us to draft Yarran...

Seems to have good chemistry when he's up and about.

Would like to see him come off the front of the square at centre bounces. He's probably the only one with enough pace to provide another option by getting there to the fall of the tap.
