guernsies in the warm up.

The guernsies wouldn't fit over his helmet when putting them on. He ripped them when trying to force his head through. A trainer then told him to take his helmet off first.

LMAO

That's hilarious !

I thought the team were roughing each other up in the locker rooms.

Thanx BP

makes a good story though

Apparently the boys were really pumped before the game roughing eachother up a bit and many jumpers were ripped just before the start of the game

good onya Bllxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

lol that is indeed hilarious, but I have a question for you guys.....

here's the question.....Hyde comes out in guernsey no. 43 which prompts the statisticians and what have you to search the history books for past Tigers who have worn that number.....my question is, what goes down in the history books for this match? Does it go down as a match wear he wore his original number, or a match where he wore no. 43???!

Harp.

Hyde revives No. 43 memories at Tigerland

You can blame Chris Hyde for this article . . .

His appearance in the Richmond No. 43 guernsey against the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba last Saturday night got me scurrying to the Club records, trying to figure out who had worn this high number throughout Tigerland history.

Hyde's regular No. 31 guernsey had been torn during the pre-match warm-up last Saturday evening, and with no replacement No. 31 guernseys available, he was forced to wear the vacant No. 43, for this one game.

It just so happened to be that Hyde's appearance wearing No. 43 was 44 years after Kevin Fitzgerald became the first man to wear that guernsey number for Richmond. Fitzgerald wore it in the Round 5, 1961 clash with St Kilda at Punt Road, in what would be his only senior appearance with the Tigers.

A further three years passed before Tiger fans again saw the No. 43 guernsey in action. It was pulled on late in the 1964 season by Frank Dimattina, who would be the last Richmond player ever to wear the guernsey at Punt Road.

Four years later, Rex Hunt burst onto the scene in his debut season with the Tigers, wearing No. 43 for 13 games in 1968.

Steve Hywood created Richmond guernsey history in 1972 when he became the first Richmond player to wear the No. 43 in a Grand Final.

But it was Cameron Clayton, who went one step further two years later. In just his eighth senior game, he took the field in the 1974 premiership triumph over North Melbourne wearing the No. 43. Remarkably, all his eight senior games that season resulted in Tiger wins.

Greg Naylor next wore the No. 43 at Richmond for his three games in 1977 (all wins), before it was taken over by Dale Weightman in 1978 during the 18 games of his debut league season.

Matthew Wall holds the distinction of becoming the first Richmond player to wear the guernsey across two seasons: 18 games from 1980-81.

Tim Barling then wore it in the 1984-85 seasons, including the 113-point thrashing of St Kilda in Round 3, 1985, which was just his second senior game.

Andy Goodwin wore it for the last three games of the 1987 season, before transferring to No. 24 for the remainder of his career at Richmond.

For the next six seasons, No. 43 was worn by three different Tiger players – Mark Summers, Allister Scott and Tim Livingstone – for a total of 31 games.

The No. 43 Yellow and Black jumper then lay dormant, until Ben Hollands kicked 2 goals wearing it on his AFL debut in 1999.

From there, only Craig Ednie had worn it past 2000 – lining up in Round 6, 2002 against Adelaide at Telstra Dome – until Chris Hyde surprised us all by taking the field in it against Brisbane last Saturday night.

Here’s the full list of Tigers who have worn the No. 43 guernsey . . .

I've read that list. My point is, does he now have one less match in his tally of matches played in No. 31? I guess he does. Funny huh? :p
