given the unusual incident of alleged eye gouging i'm not sure the MRP would have a suitable category for this - it might be referred to the tribunal to deal with.

He's gone.

I don't know why some people are actually defending it, it was a stupid thing to do. Total brain fade, and it will cost him a couple of matches.

Just remember, just because he is Chris Judd doesn't mean he's immune to criticism. Disappointed he did that, what was he thinking? The explanation doesn't do it great justice either. I am hoping his honesty in this will help.
Ugly act that did Judd's reputation no good at all.

Yet I doubt that Judd will get suspended for that.

Would get a reprimand because he doesn't have a record.

The reaction of Brisbane trolls is priceless with their ironic calls of Judd being a money hungry merc and a dog. They'd welcome Judd in Lions' colours after they bought Lynch, Fitzroy and four Grand Finals in a row with the AFL giving their extended salary cap a huge tick.

Judd isn't an upstanding individual like the Coach who would never king hit someone from behind.

It's as funny as Essendon fans calling us cap cheats.

I guess if Judd had caused extensive facial injuries resulting in plates and screws being inserted you would be happy!

And let's also not forget it was the clubs that made the final decision on who Fitzroy was to merge with in 1996. All of the clubs were well aware that any merger came with salary cap extensions. Yet they still voted in favor of it.

Adelaide, Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon, Fremantle, Geelong, Hawthorn, Melbourne, Richmond, St Kilda, Sydney, West Coast and the Western Bulldogs all voted for the merger.

They were 13 of the 14 clubs that made the final decision to hand over, Fitzroy to the Bears. All of those clubs, including yours, OK'd the resultant $6 million merger incentive (which were available to all clubs that merged) and resultant salary cap extensions.

Note your club in that little list. I've underlined them so you don't miss it.

The ones in bold made their own merger offer to gain salary cap extensions and Fitzroy.

And of course Sydney were allowed over one and half times whatever the Brisbane Lions were allowed in salary cap extensions. The Swans still have them.

What and its our fault your club was pathetic and only for the merge wouldnt exist in any form today.

Way to miss my point. Keep up will you?

The clubs decided that the club operation of Fitzroy were to merge with the Brisbane Bears. They also OK'd the salary cap extensions which were originally part of the merger conditions.

and only for the merge wouldnt exist in any form today.

Only for the merge?

It may interest you to know that THE Fitzroy Football Club exists in their own right to this day. In fact the Club plays in their first Grand Final since 1944 this weekend and will be going for their tenth club premiership.

Judd has a history of this as he clearly eye gauged Campbell Brown in 07 but got off at the tribunal because of Browns testimony and also due to the fact he is a protected species. I assume the MRP will let him off again but if it was any other player he would get weeks

would be spewing if I had money on him for the brownlow, he's gone.

Don't think getting suspended during the finals impacts on eligibility to win the Brownlow, I believe any suspension would have to have happened during the home & away games.

Judd 'pressure point' tactic shocks Barassi

Will Brodie | September 7, 2009 - 11:53AM

AFL legend Ron Barassi has called on the AFL to act over the bizarre contact made by Carlton captain Chris Judd to the face of Brisbane Lions opponent Michael Rischitelli during the elimination final on Saturday night.
TV footage showed Judd standing over Lions opponent Michael Rischitelli and apparently gouging his right eye.
Judd claimed later that he was attempting a martial arts manouevre on a pressure point behind Rischitelli's ear.
"I haven't actually seen it on footage, but I assume my hands are close to his eyes," Judd said. "I don't think the pressure point was really hurting him, but it was a dumb thing to do."
The Blues' leader said there was no contact with Rischitelli's eyes. "You'd have to poke someone really hard in the eye … to get up, you'd be really blinking. I assume he wasn't doing that.
"Hopefully we get on with it and we move on to round one. I'd prefer it didn't happen, but it has. We'll deal with that if we have to."
Speaking on radio station 3AW this morning Barassi said: "I think the AFL would have to do something about this. This is very serious stuff and has a lot of effect through the football community. This is a shocking thing to discover that these sorts of things are being talked about, thought about and actually done."
"It's going to be very hard to get out of this because of the words from his own mouth" Barassi said.
"It's disappointing because this guy is a hero for many, many people, including myself. Because he's a great player, he's got strength, skill, the whole lot. And he seems to keep himself in good shape mentally and physically and he says the right things. He'll regret this day for a long while.
"The AFL has got to do something about it. This is one of the game's leading players, and leading idols, saying something like this ..."
If Judd is cited by the match review panel, he would be likely to face a charge of misconduct (eye gouging/unreasonable and unnecessary contact to the face.)
Barassi was worried about the act impacting on other levels of football.

"Imagine the heaps of times you see heaps of players on top of each other before the whistle is blown - lots of things could be going on there. Once this sort of thing is out and about ... it's a slight on the game. It's a slight on everyone, including the watchers."
In 2007, Judd beat a charge of eye-gouging Hawthorn's Campbell Brown, who later admitted he lied to help the midfield star's case.

Sure he was trying to be annoying but if anybody thinks he even poked him in the eye, much less gouged him, they are drama queens

ps By definition gouging is done with the thumb - just so that you know when anything even resembling it occurs

Buddy got done for No Intent, it was clearly Judds intention to poke rischitelli in the eye, should get 2

A pretty stupid act from one I assumed to be a pretty smart player.

Unecessary in a game in which Judd's telling posessions where doing more than enough to unsettle the opposition. Don't think we need to over-dramatise the act itself...one man's gouge is another mans creative niggle and Palsonic seemed fine when he got up. Just unecessary and seemingly so out of character.

More surprised that he would have this sort of brainfade. Surely he knows how many cameras are on the play...they didn't just capture it, they had it from three different angles.

Old footballers should disappear and grow old gracefully by not commenting.

They've had their day.

And done worse when they played...

A trifling incident compared to what Essendon's Captain did two weeks ago when he broke Sewell's face.

And in the past..

Yet Lloyd was called a vigorous and fair player by one journalist.

:o

Kernahan was a vigorous and fair player who always took front position at the front of packs.

Lloyd was a diving dog who sniped players.

One week would be a fair penalty.

So you are saying he attempted to eye gouge the Lions player ..but couldn't quite get the job done ..ffs the blokes face and eyes were right there for the taking ..only an inept uncordinated dolt could miss getting his eyes to some degree ..you know ..somebody like most of the tigers hacks ?

If Juddy wanted to take out the Lions players eyes then Rischatelli would not have gotten up without even so much as a blink of his eyes ...now crawl back into the cesspit you came from.

So many trolls allowed to troll our boards these days :thumbsd:

The clubs voted that the Brisbane Lions should have a salary cap of $300,000 for the 1997 season only. It was the AFL that decided to extend the 10% salary cap bonus that they were receiving. Not the clubs. The cost of living in Brisbane is also considerably lower than Melbourne, so that was quite a bonus, and I don't see how they could have won three successive premierships without it.

A couple of years ago in the 'Record' pop quiz, Judd was asked with who from history he'd most like to spend an hour. He answered "Albert Camus", a twentieth century French author and philosopher. I've met the bloke twice, and he's impressive and verified the quiz response was genuine.

On top of that, even if Judd had not played a game for us, I would still consider getting him to Carlton was worthwhile due to the impact he's had on the club's culture.

Having written all of the above, I'm baffled by both his action against Riscitelli, and his statement afterwards about pressure points.

Objectively, his actions were trying to inflict harm on the Brisbane player illegitimately, so he's going to have to cop a suspension; probably two weeks.

And in the back of my head I still keep thinking about the incident with Campbell Brown in Tasmania, particularly as Brown admitted telling porkies at the tribunal hearing to help Judd get off.

Hmmm.

The point that a lot of you Carlton supporters (not all) are missing is that Judd came over to a contest in which he wasnt originally involved and instead of trying to get the ball he deliberately stuck his fingers in the face of a player who was on the ground immobilised. He then appears to probe around with his fingers for something, regardless if it is an eye or a pressure point, it is extremely dodgy behaviour from your captain. He is a player who is supposed to set an example on and off the field. And from a lions supporter's point of view he was having a massive game so it is not as if he can claim he was fed up with a tag or anything similar. A lot of you fans are saying things along the lines of "oh well rischitelli got up and wasnt hurt so it doesnt matter." That is so much crap, i am not going to compare it to any other past action by judd or any one else. When you look at the footage any level headed footyfan would be thinking WTF. He must be penalised because he is one of the most prominent players that our sport has and it was an extremely low thing to do with no other possible explanation except to cause discomfort to an opposition player unable to defend himself, bit of advice Chris next time go for the balls, easier to find.:thumbsd:

Enjoy Camus' work quite a bit. The Stranger and The Plague were particularly good.
