How many games did those debutants play? How many did they play together?
O'Connor played 2 games, Cunico played 1 game, Simpson played 4, Buzza played 6, Guthrie 9. Hardly an overwhelming amount of gametime put into those players. In Zuthrie's case, he was given a spot in the side over a more experienced player in Thurlow, so that was a path the match committee opted to take rather than one they were forced to.

You claim Geelong was smashed by injuries. It's true that we were playing kids who had no place in a top 4 side, and that was damaging, but that's not because Geelong had any kind of unusually high injury toll. Geelong was not the victim of any greater player loss than any other top side. The difference, however, is that Geelong lacks depth. That is why Geelong had to play these kids and contend with the outcomes.

Geelong used 36 players in 2017
GWS used 37
Richmond used 38

If the problem was instability caused by so many players being rotated through the side, how do you explain Richmond's success, keeping in mind 7 of Geelong's 36 played 5 games or less? The injury toll and number of players being rotated were nothing unusual. I would say that Geelong's injury run the last couple of years has been reasonably ideal - Dangerfield and Selwood have played nearly every game, Hawkins has only missed due to suspension, the KPDs have almost always been available, Duncan has played nearly every game. It's when key players start going down that you'll see what it's like to face an injury crisis. At this point, no one should be surprised that McCarthy, Cockatoo or Gregson is going down injured.
They are simply a better TEAM,
had a full list in September,
better depth,
and their trump card player is #1 in the comp.

Their captain played to redeem his career.

So when does the actual playing group take some responsibility? The same group smashed Sydney in as good a performance that I can remember from us, then produced nothing in the other two finals, other than turning the ball over with relentless ease.

Why is it so black and white with you anti-Scott crew?
The playing group Scott has been in charge of for 7 years.

If he keeps playing the same crap game plan it his fault.
If he keeps playing the same tall backline its his fault.
If he keeps playing the same players who underperform in finals its his fault.
If the team isnt disciplined enough then its his fault.

we have plenty of reasons why Scott is no good, it's the proscott crew who dont hold him accountable for anything even drzero who just blames the assistants (who scott chooses)

Because it is silly that every time we lose a small subsection of wet blankets call for his head. What plonkers.
That's not "sensible discussion", that's just the same old crap repeated ad nauseam. Something we could do with less of, not more.
You could argue that happens both ways.
Obviously to call for his head every game is silly.
But after finals 2014,16,17 the same excuses and the basically the same crap directed back at anyone with sensible criticisms of coach and players (now flat earthers, previously #derp etc etc) have been repeated ad nauseam.
This also gets very tiresome.
We could get thrashed in next years prelim, Blitz play another poor finals series, Menegola's disposal falls apart under pressure and McCarthy play 5 games and the same people will still be making the same excuses and still giving the same people shit for criticising things.

Cheers for the shout out sweetcheeks. Appreciated.
Do fact check though, I've questioned the assistant coaches. Not blame.

Could we all be nicer. Probably.
Do we get sick of the same "sack scott" grade A horseshit that's spewed. Abso-bloody-tootily we do.

This is our coach, repeating that same tired belief gets this thread nowhere. We get it, some want him out. Telling us all 30000 times doesn't advance this thread at all. When blokes like cynical (see you can tag boy) and co cease with this repetitive nonsense then they'll get some respect in this thread. Got no time for that other crap, he's here, he's our coach. Deal with it and offer up something not deserving of being skimmed.

im happy to have the minority who are right agree with my opinions

dont know how many more years of terrible finals series we need for others to jump on board, most people are pretty slow to change

It's not worth arguing with someone who is drunk off Scotts koolaid... How dare anyone question a coach. Like I told you these are the robots with the losers Geelong mentality of old, scared to rock the boat, scared of change, scared to question anything, happy to watch Ablett on 1 leg, happy for Danger to take speccies in the forward line and kick it out on the full, happy for us to finish top half and get blown to shit in finals, happy for us to play the same shit tactics at the MCG that gets us slaughtered the majority of the time... You cannot argue with these robots, they are scared and don't know what its like to take a chance and try mix things up. God forbid I would have thought our club would be rotting at the bottom of the ladder in 2011 after the best coach we ever had left us, but no something else happened - what a surprise...

The one's that don't are like you blinded by that flag that was gifted to him, you'll all learn soon enough that he's not capable of building his own list and repeating it.
Birds of a feather flock together. :D

If he keeps playing the same crap game plan it his fault.
This is his responsibility. But it is it solely down to game plan? In finals the pressure goes up and more so now than before, it's the level of pressure which brings success. Does our group lift that intensity? Not consistently enough. This is a dual issue that needs addressing from coaching and playing level.

If he keeps playing the same tall backline its his fault.
The one which has been our rock for so long?

If he keeps playing the same players who underperform in finals its his fault.
It'll be a pretty thin team then. Once again, this can't be solely his fault, surely? Isn't the onus on the player to perform? Is it Scott's fault none of them could hit a bloody target in the PF. Giving up 18 goals from your own turnovers. Not much can be done from the box about that.

If the team isnt disciplined enough then its his fault.
Suspensions? Free kicks? Once again, surely some player responsibility for their actions is warranted?

No, it's the anti-Scott crew who blame him for everything. See, two can play this game.

The game plan has to work in finals at the MCG if it doesn't then we are just padding our home and away record.

The one which has been our rock for so long?

The backline has gradually been getting taller. 3 talls with Mackie worked because Scarlett was a gun, it doesnt mean it was optimal.

These days its been 2 old and slow talls + another 2 talls + an old Mackie + a 3rd tall in Stewart.

It'll be a pretty thin team then. Once again, this can't be solely his fault, surely? Isn't the onus on the player to perform? Is it Scott's fault none of them could hit a bloody target in the PF. Giving up 18 goals from your own turnovers. Not much can be done from the box about that.

The club hasnt recruited and/or developed enough good outside players. Scott continues to play the same workman like players with poor skills who dont perform in finals. The team balance is never right. We have to develop outside players at the expense of some home and away wins. So yes its his fault that Blicavs is a deer in the headlights, Menegola and Scooter lack impact and the backline has no run and carry. When Blicavs and Kolo run around on the wing while Thurlow sits in the VFL then yes its Scotts fault.

Suspensions? Free kicks? Once again, surely some player responsibility for their actions is warranted?

The coach sets the standards, he never dropped Motlop for squib efforts or Blicavs/Guthrie for poor form. If players are getting suspended or giving away bad free kicks then its up to the coach to fix it. He can drop Hawkins to the VFL for a game if he keeps jumper punching.

No, it's the anti-Scott crew who blame him for everything. See, two can play this game.

As the coach he is the leader of the group so the buck stops with him. The club has gone down the topup route at the expense of the future and have failed to deliver. Scott might not be at fault for everything but he is at fault for a lot of it.

Especially that one. I love how when Blicavs or Murdoch or Menegola throw up a finals stinker the reaction is like it's never happened before. It's become routine.

He's certainly not responsible for everything, and some things are beyond anyone's control. But he is responsible for that.

The thing is people get narky if you criticise the coach and say "what about the players? The coach can't control that"
But if you criticise some of the players who are serial offenders you get the same exact people saying " well he wasn't alone that night. Don't go blaming him"
(I hate that excuse BTW)
Or its injuries or " we just don't have the players"
But then if you explain we threw away 3 2nd rounders on Clark, HMac, Stanley the same people go "we were going for a flag it was the risk" Hmm preety high risk there. It could be said unrealistic.
Or if you criticise for letting Lang go for nothing it's " he's a spud and won't make it" Really you just said we didn't have the players! We just gave an under 50 gamer who played well in a final on the G.
So you must think we have the players if you're happy to dump him.
Or " We just haven't had the picks" We got 2 first rounders for Ablett, 19 for Motlop. For the ladder position we've had it hasn't been bad at all.

The same people use all these excuses even though they completely contradict each other.
Excuse after excuse with no accountability.

You’re doing it again. Being silly with exaggeration.

See from my POV I find it silly to pick out 1-2 players for criticism in games where 16, 17, 18 players all played bad. Not sure why they’re special. You win as a team and lose as a team.

You can pick out all of them. But anyone of them who has a mare not just because of structure etc, but basic skill errors under pressure I don't think it's fair to say everyone else was shit oh well.
Particular if it's a reoccurring problem.
Once again contradictions.
You lose as a team but don't criticise the coach.
Don't blame players cause 18 played poorly.
Oh well just bad luck then I guess.

At the end of the day its the head coaches responsibility. All the Scott nuthuggers can direct blame to players as much as they want - it all falls on his head. It's part of being the 'boss' you take responsibility for the actions of those you manage. If the players are not performing properly in finals then its the coaches responsibility to determine why and fix it, excuses don't go far in this industry nor should they. He has has more than enough opportunities to fix these issues and so far he has continued to fail. The buck stops with him.

See you’re still being silly and exaggerating, only a very small subsection of individuals don’t criticise the coach when we lose. I did so when we lost the QF, can’t remember my PF comments.

What I didn’t do is be silly and demand the coach be sacked, I mean only plonkers do that.
