Certified Legendary Thread Chrisco Hampers - who in their right mind buys them ?

This has probably been said a few times in this thread...but what would be wrong with putting away the equivalent each week for 52 weeks and doing a massive shop at Xmas time? You'd be getting more for your money and you can buy exactly what you want to buy, not what Chrisco ties into the hamper.
that would be far too logical haha

The boganette will eventually spend the cash she puts away. This way, the boganette will get her cash taken and get a box of goodies!

The boganette ain't smart

I think because the amount of the fine is in question, not that they will be fined.

It is unconscionable behaviour once paid, stop taking my money. Amazing how often that trick is used though - gyms are notorious for it.
Gym did that to my sister. She cancelled her membership, did all the right things and they kept deducting.

11 months later she realized (yeah don't worry I wonder how it took her that long too) and I went back to the gym with her to complain and ask for all the cash back.

Smart ass campaigner at the counter said with a smirk "Oh you need a copy of your exit form to prove, otherwise you can't say you told us."

Never seen a blokes face fall so quickly when she pulled it out of her pocket and slapped it on the counter. ******* campaigners the lot of them.

I think they could come out and say it's a scam and people would still use it for the convenience. I for one will never go without my 187 tins of Xmas beans at $33 a week.

I'm getting my bomb shelter put in next week.

The people who buy Chrisco hampers don't have the will power to do that.

Good old Chrisco. The owner will just sell one of the power boats to pay that fine.
No drama. Carry on the scam. Business as usual.

Is it really Chriscos fault that some members of society are that stupid to pay the amounts required for illogical outcomes. Darwinism really.

Some people are just not money savvy a don't get how things like this work, I don't get it as I have understood finance and how things work from a very young age, but there are so many that don't have a clue which is sad but at the end of the day all businesses should have to operate within ethical boundaries.

That is not what they are being prosecuted for though. Reading the article it seems they broke the law by unlawfully taking unsolicited payments.

That is their fault.

The fine would be like 1/10th of their yearly profit. They wouldn't batter an eyelid.

This is what separates you from them (well done) as well as the precise reason that this thread so so damn funny.

CHRISTMAS hamper company Chrisco has been hit with a $200,000 fine for allegedly helping itself to customers’ bank accounts.
In November, Chrisco was found guilty of breaching Australian Consumer Law after informing consumers they could not cancel a lay-by agreement after making their final payment.

Under the company’s so-called HeadStart plan, Chrisco would take the surplus payments and put them towards next year’s hamper — even before the customer had agreed to purchase it.

Continually deducting money out of people's accounts after they have paid off something (even if that something is as overpriced as Chrisco) is abhorrent and predatory behaviour, let alone dressing it up as a Head Start payment, prior to even agreeing to a hamper next. It's bad enough Chrisco are ripping off the element of the community who can lease afford to throw away money like this, but to continue to take their money after they have paid is some sort of evil.

It's widespread. Cash Converters and any of those payday loan companies along with any rental place such as Radio Rentals. All focused more on those who cannot pay it back rather than those who can. Can't rinse those people who can pay back with interest can you.

The "rent to buy" schemes/scams are outrageous.

Cash Converters do prey on the dim witted folk of society but it's no different a business model than dozens of other companies in the same market.

It's just the way of the world.

And always will be.

Junkie heaven.

It's funny..for the first time ever I walked into a cash converters office a few weeks ago to enquire about flogging off some old hi-fi gear.

The two blokes couldn't have been more professional as they served me and this disgusting 50 year old feral wench who was attempting to regain ownership of her pawned piece of s**t jewellery.

She asked me how 'Howz your day been?' during a lull.

I wanted to smash her face in.

Good times at Cashes.
