Christmas Day

I've had one white Christmas in my life- 2006. We were staying in the Huon Valley and there was an exceptionally cold front covering basically all of south eastern Australia on Christmas Day. Anyway- top temperature of three degrees for the day, with lashings of snow in both the early morning and evening.

Was quite incredible.

Would much prefer to stay home Christmas day with my partner and our dog.
Put some beers on ice the night before and throw a few things on the BBQ Xmas day.
Relax, put my feet up and not have to worry about driving anywhere.

Instead, lunch at my sisters then dinner at my partners brothers house which is the other side of Melbourne.
Get home, pretty much straight to bed and then fire up for Boxing Day at the 'G.

I've always preferred Christmas night to the day. A friend has held Christmas night drinks at his place for the last five or sex years. After the trauma of lunch with biological family, it's good to kick back with logical family for a few drinks and an unwind. Best of all it's child free, I love kids and Christmas is really all about them but by the late afternoon I've usually had enough.

Midnight Mass, then Presbyterian service on Christmas morning. Bottle of bubbly and exchange gifts before lunch. Evenings, we often have friends over or go to someone else's place (not a proper sit-down meal, just cold meat and alcohol).

Boxing Day is much better. Lazing around by the pool, cricket, Hobart race, cold meat, beer.

The evening is usually the most enjoyable for me too. Morning is traditional with music, nice breakfast etc. Lunch is usually just relaxing time. Couple of beers and maybe get organized for dinner a little. Night time is for a big dinner, drinking and having fun with friends.

Are you a regular church goer or a Xmas/Easter style worshipper? I'm no believer, but I think that Xmas being a hugely significant religious occasion for many gets lost amonget the worship of mammon at this time of year.

Personally I am not religious, but my parents are both weekly churchgoers and it's part of our family tradition to attend together. In a way the believing part is less important than the communal nature if it - Dad always comes to the Cathedral, and we always go to his Kirk the next morning.

I quite enjoy it, really. The music is excellent, and the ritual nature of it all reminds me of childhood.

Interesting I would guess that the "sex" years provided the kids :p

Find the day itself to be pretty meh. Enjoy the morning breakfast and present opening, but then it's hours of driving to see different people, and a bunch of boring dull shite, until dinner comes around.

Much, much prefer Christmas eve, and the week leading up to it.

I do a lot of driving as well, spend about 3+ on the road total for the day. I didnt realise how frustrating it was until this year when I was trying to work out why Christmas day just feels like a hassle, when I generally like spending time with my family and relaxing, I figure its the driving

As a result of the driving I cant drink either. I've never drank on Christmas day, the whole idea seems strange to me. Maybe its why some people enjoy it so much

For me mostly it feels like I'm running around to complete everyone elses day, while everyone else probably thinks theyre doing the same thing.

It was good when you were a kid. Presents and nothing else to worry about. Now its just expensive, family problems and unwanted stress. Hate it.

The best Christmas Days I've spent since I was a kid were overseas where we had Orphans Christmas parties, just great fun drinking booze all day with mates, flatmates, other backpackers etc and not having to worry about the usual family bullshit.

I dread Christmas Day with the family here, I just want it to be over ASAP so I can just chill out and watch the cricket on Boxing Day.

BBQ lunch with the family, it will be the same old usual thing
I'm a bit meh about Xmas this year as i've been having relationship issues.
It will still be good to see my 3 yr old daughters face though....

Worked full on the last three days for the rush.

I'm Jewish, so it's been nice to just put my feet up today!

Anyone spending Christmas on Bigfooty this year?

Been on and off since 6:30am

The "official" Christmas is over for me this year (yep before 9am), now i just have to go through the motions for the rest of the day.

It's 4:27pm, I've eaten lunch, opened pressies and on my 14th Peroni. Watching superman right now, will most defs have a nap soon, maybe some desert, expecting tomorrow at the cricket to be a bigger day. Cbf doing much else today.. Might drink a little more. Merry Christmas everybody.
Impressive clarity of expression, grammar and punctuation for 14 beers.

Happy Christmas, everyone!
