Clarke retires?

Considering that there the general consensus was that he was going to retire (until Biglands' knee posed some questions) it could just as easily be saying that he plans to play on.
I think it will be a retirement announcement but I would think Clarke calling a media conference could easily work both ways.

We will know in 40 mins or so.

Would it be live on 5AA?

can you please keep us up to date :thumbsu:

do players call PCs to announce they are playing on ?
Considering it had been assumed all season that this was Clarke's last one, then I would give it a marginal chance.

891 just announced that at the press conference Clarke announced his retirement.

There will be more on their news bulletins during the day.

Crows ruckman Matthew Clarke has announced his retirement from the AFL.

Clarke, 33, played 18 AFL games this year for a total of 248. This includes 130 games at Brisbane, where he won the best-and fairest in 1997 after finishing runner-up in 1994 and 1996.

He also played four State-of-Origin games for South Australia.

Originally from Mt Gambier, Clarke returned to SA at the end of 1999 when the Crows traded their first pick (No 6) in the national draft to Brisbane.

More information from Clarke’s press conference will be posted on the website soon …

confirmed his retirement at the presser

Don't know ether to say bugger or good luck big fella & thanks for the memories & the effort you have put in while at the AFC.

so maybe i'll say both.

hope this doesn't mean that Gardiner is now a priority for us.

Unfortuantely i'm pretty sure that won't happen. Word has it that he has agreed to coach West Gambier next year (whether he plays is another story) and will work with his father.

Thats really sad

you could tell at the end of the premlim final when he walked into the middle of the ground

hopefully he gets the whole parade around football park next season - he deserves it !

(oh and gets a few male children who are excelent at football as well !)

Did he play 100 AFL game for the Adelaide Football Club?

Good to see him go out when on top of his game. It was the right decision to play another year this year and is probably the right decision to retire now. I think he has shown more in the last 13 months with the Crows than he had in his previous however many years at AFC which is a great credit to him.
