Unfortunately you haven't got a choice , you can't let then barrack for a decent team and then tease you all their lives about being a Richmond supporter
My kids at least have some chance of seeing some success. Unfortunately mother nature means some of us are running out of time.

My kids also asked why we follow Richmond. I just blamed it on their Grandfather because he got me to follow them...
I took my 9 year old to his first finals game last year. He has been a member for 4 years now. I waited 16 years for my first final.
He still loves the Tigers, but not seeing Jack kick goals is a bit of a problem for him.

When I was a young kid I was a Hawthorn supporter, brother convinced me to swap to Richmond by basically stating it was the only way I would ever get to see a single game... At times I ask myself the same question your kid asks, kind of glad my nephew chose a different team and is already insanely passionate about afl, rather than choosing Richmond and having to deal with this shit and ultimately becoming disinterested.
24 and I've never gotten to even watch a final live on TV let alone attend one, pretty sure in 2001 I had to play basketball when it was on and missed that, last year I was working so missed that too... However yeah I'm still not a member, can only make Friday night games which makes it a bit of a waste of my limited funds

HAHA. My kid asked the same question as to why we have to follow Richmond after the game.
I told her is was our family destiny to suffer football pain.
I told my kids that following Richmond was a good lesson in life. Life throws up adversities and our children tend to be protected from many of them. By following the tiges it helps them develop excellent coping mechanisms that will hold them in good stead once the real tough times roll in.
I had to come up with something good because they're getting old now themselves and are demanding answers!
