Maybe. They both look superior athletes and better at ground level. Gourdis has awesome mitts. Putt could be anything. Hughes just doesn't convince me. He's the same age as Franklin and if he was going to be a star we'd have seen it by now. Every gun forward I can think of has been a star by 21. He might be an adequate player but I don't reckon we lose much if he goes. I want to believe and at times I do, but so far they've been few and far between. I don't mind if he stays and in fact for our structure we probably need him at FF but if he stays he must play FF all year. If he can't it's definitely curtains.

WTF, all star forwards are guns at 21, and then you throw up Buddy - he's from another planet you tool! We need him and thats that. He hasn't had a decent run, and him shifting up and down between the tigers and coburg makes it hard to get into any sort of form.

He's a gun kick, a super strong mark. And wheter you like it or not, he will be at Punt road in 2009 and beyond.:thumbsu:

Well, the season is over, the trade week is over and Cleve hughes is still at the club.
I hoping that he gets delisted. Because madtiger raves on how good is.
Cleve Hughes only has a couple of good games, then in others he can't get near the ball.
Please delist Cleve Hughes Richmond?

If you read what I wrote, I said I don't mind if he stays and that we probably need him for structure. He is a great kick and a decent mark, rather than super strong. As for forwards who are guns at 21, take a look at this list and tell me who's missing:
J.Brown
Franklin
Roughead
Brereton
Kernahan
Lockett
Richo
Dunstall
Lloyd
Coleman
Hudson
Disco
Hart
Carey...

Shall I go on?
The only ones missing as far as I can see are Fev, who's a d1ckhead, and who kicked 63 in a season at 22, and Ablett and Modra, who were laws unto themselves with undoubted freakish talent, and Bradshaw, who had to wait behind a couple of decent players in Brown and Lynch. Cleve's not a freakish talent, he's not waiting behind anyone; is he a d1ckhead? Servicable player at best. Role player. Target man but no match-winner. Will he ever even kick 50 in a season? Maybe. Hopefully. I wouldn't bet on it though.

to be honest.. i love the kid, if he gets oppurtunity, he will become a star!
a beautiful kick, a great mark, and a is fast up on the lead, needs a abit of confidence nd i guarantee you he will make a massive mark in the afl!! has abit of fevola to him, bit of a shoot out between them at our centenury game :thumbsu::D

100% agree with ya buddy:thumbsu:

From what I have seen of Cleve he has looked quite good. Great kick, good hands. But you would obviously know more about him than me. However, his attractiveness is of incredible importance, and he should be kept at the club at all costs, if only to draw attractive women to Richmond games.

Buddy has screwed with everyone lately, he will be the best player for a long time. People need to stop comparing key position fowards progress to where Buddy is at becuase it isnt going to be like that.

So what if he isnt a Carey, Richo, Brown, Lloyd ect.

He just needs to be serviceable, not everyone has a once in a decade foward in their team. We may just have a Cam Mooney type. Which is fine, its all we need.

I really hope Cleveland can be our man.

I agree. I said in a thread months ago that Hughes should take a good hard look at Mooney and the way he plays. Unfortunately at the moment he plays with a fraction of Mooney's intensity.

Madtiger is still raving on about his lover.
Come on Madtiger Lets get some real players that a hungry for the ball. Cleve Hughes doesn't fit Category.
Madtiger when are going to realise that Cleve Hughes is never going to be a buddy franklin or Jonathan Brown or Brendan Fevola.

So we'll delist Hughes and wait 10 years until another Franklin comes along

I've been thinking about Mr Hughes.

Positive thoughts. I really think he is going to have a stand out year this year.

With Jack as our CHF and Cleve holding down the square and 50 we should be in good shape.

I hope he has a strong preseason, plays all NAB cup games and takes the form into Round 1.

Cleve Hughes never looks interested to me. Reminds me of Craig Smith who played for us in the late 80's. Shows a bit but looks like he'd rather be at the pub tab or the beach! I hope he comes good.

Wow, I never thought I'd see the day when the infallible Which Richmond? would post a slightly less positive review of someone at the RFC.

Lol such hostility..

It was an honest question. I was going through stats and somehow arrived to an old Richmond game and then I looked for who the goal scoters were and I saw this Hughes bloke kicked 6 and his career never really went much further after that..

Why was that? Team structure? Attitude?
