I just saw that he has been elevated. I knew it wouldnt take long, he is seriously gonna be a star of the AFL. He has electric pace & super ball winning skills. He is just what you need in your midfield as its a bit slow, he will be your fastest mid by a long way, in fact i seriously think he will be your best mid full stop . I remember seeing him in a few games last year for South Freo & i was like "Who the hell is this guy, he is exceptional". I was hoping WC would rookie list him & was outraged when they didnt. You have a real gem there, what a steal!!!

Turn it up. Their best mid??? Hayes, Dal Santo and Ball ring a bell. Seriously i wish him all the best but c'mon, don't heighten their expectations too much on a very green rookie.

Im over the moon about it!!! CJ is gonnna be awsome, was in our bests every week for the NAB cup games, getting more than 20 touches a game.........Had something like 33 touches in teh VFL last weekend, is a level above VFL.

Cj has got the mature body, raw pace, ball winning ability, and footy brain... his skills sometimes are questionable but not to bad. I traded Nigel lappin out of my dream team for Jones and made him captain :)... GO jonesy!!!

Keep an eye on him ladies and gentleman.

Yeah there best mid. He is the closest thing they have to Judd. Dal Santo is a outside mid & has less pace than my grandfather.

Ball is a good inside mid but also but you hardly see him excellerating away from ppl. Also Ball cant even kick 35 metres anymore.

Hayes - again a good inside mid but slow.

However, Jones can be a inside & outsdie mid for them. He can be there Judd, oviously no one can be like Judd but Jones can be a gun in his own right for them.

piss of our board. idiot

I wasnt actully trying to wind anyone up......

Hayes & Ball are slow but are still gun mids. :thumbsu:

Jones is explosive & unlike anything you have. He should become your #1 mid. Gun

Hotdog, I'd rather people come onto our board and pump up our players rather than say they are crap.

The Judd comparison was going a bit far but I thought it was more funny than anything else.

Can you imagine if he posted the same thing on the main board? :D

I'm as happy as Saint Corin about his promotion. From what I saw in the pre-season and from what he's done in recent weeks he thoroughly deserves his chance. As a 23 year old he's spent a bit of the time in the system and knows that this 8 week spell will be his last chance to make it as an AFL footballer. Good luck to him. :thumbsu:

Heighten away! I need something to look forward to after last week.

Ease up, Hotdog. I think you could scarcely accuse the guy of baiting. He was just getting enthusiastic for a young West Aussie getting his chance. Nothing wrong with that (and if you can't admit that our star-studded midfield is also a little slow, then I think you're pretty thin-skinned. I love our boys, but they're not going to win the grand final dash).

Spot on, Fehring. Both times. :D

geez fair go for christ's sake.

I just wish some of our supporters were as enthusiatic about our players as this guy obviously is.

The Judd comparison is a bit extreme, but I've seen Jonesy play a few times this year and he is quick, tough albeit horribly left-sided.

I think he'll fit in quite comfortably at the Dome.

He is comparing a rookie to Ball,Hayes,Dal Santo etc and thinks he will be better than all of them, he hasn't proven anything.

This guy also compared Hurn to Buckley,Voss.

Seems a bit crazy to me

i didnt say they are better now.....they have the tools to be!!!!!!:thumbsu:

Yep, he's an exact replica of Chris Judd (except for the fact that he can't kick).

I'm glad he's been given an opportunity to prove himself, but after seeing his kicking in the intra club match and pre season games I really don't think he will be an AFL player. His decision-making was horrible and from about 20 kicks he'll end up with 8-10 clangers.

Please, please prove me wrong tonight CJ because if you do excel it would add a whole new dimension to our midfield. He's got the work rate of Harvey, the tackling of Hayes, the ball-getting of Ball and the speed of...CJ. Unfortunately he seems to have the kicking of McGough.

QUOTE]

Sainter, I'm as protective of this territory as the next one-eyed Saints fan, but if somebody else from other clubs has some worthwhile input (and this is not always postive ie constructive criticism) and they are courteous, then I am all for it. Only mentioning this because your comment made you sound like you want to see our team through rose-coloured lenses..

And for my input, Clinton Jones looks fantastic..!! Attacks the pill hard, seems to have good skills/ pace - and dare I say it, has a young Trev Barker look to him with his flowing blonde hair..!! :thumbsu:

I cannot wait for a fit and firing list to get on the field too..!! go SAinters!!!

Been extremely impressed with this bloke tonight. looks like a steal. Is a good type, and should get better with age.

My Vote, along with Higgins for the BF Rising Star.

Congrats Saints and Well Done John Bev. :thumbsu:

Clinton Jones is a flashy blonde-headed speedster who was recruited at the end of 2006 via the rookie draft.

He played for a West Australian club in their local competition (WAFL) where he won the club's best and fairest award for the last two years and last year also came third in the sandover medal (WAFL award for best player of the league).

Clinton can run, he tackles well and has a fair shot at goal.
He does, however, need to put more work into his passing kicks as they are not up to AFL standard yet.

Spot on! :(
Good debut, but I don't know if there's much scope for improvement. Didn't hit a target by foot on hand tonight, apart from kicking a goal.

Yep. From his 14 disposals I counted one that actually went to a teammate (and it was a 15m chip sideways to a loose play on the wing).

Many, many people are really pumping him up but the fact is that he can't kick.

Jones is 23, isn't eligible for the award

yes, I noticed that also.

His disposal was poor. First games nerves perhaps ?

He also seemed to mis read the play a lot and was well off the pace of the game. Fingers crossed he gets better.
