Interesting position now on Simon Buckley.

I'm watching all the replays at the moment and Buckley wasn't horrible this year. He was reliable on most occassions and his kicking is 95% of the time very good. He just makes awful blunders the other 5%, and occassionally just has games where everything he touches goes bad.

Then you have Marley Williams who is a real goer...however his kicking skills are quite ordinary. He kicks them too high and they never spin right. Yet, he doesn't seem to make as many glaring errors. Wouldn't back him to take kick-ins though. I'd prefer Buckley did this.

It's just a shame because Buckley is the perfect size, shape and has terrific skills. He just can't seem to get it right. I would persist with him one more year.

Buckley is a good long kick but is a turn over machine with anything under 50 meters. Unfortunately the way the game is going there is going to be more passing over 35-50 meters and through dangerous parts of the ground. This year we were the only side in the top 4 who persited with bombing long to forwards. It just doesn't work anymore given the way sides are setting up defensively. Unfortunately for Buckley this has effectively made him redundant since we can't have a half back kicking over 30-45 meters into the corridor who is a turn over king. This is also a reason why I wasn't that devastated to see Wellingham leave who also has poor execution with his short passing.

I thought we were pretty deficient this year for players of Youngs type. I think Seedsman will likely be best 22 next season and perhaps a better player than Young but that probably won't go all the way to addressing it. Ideally I think both of them would be in our best 22 ahead of our bottom 4 players like Blaire, Sinclaire, Elliot, Goldsack (for balance), even Didak (this depends a lot on balance imo). Actually, I'll probably get slammed for this but unless a minor miracle occurs Young would probably be more value for us next year than Didak. Either way, our kicking and spread this year was horrible. I'm not sure how related it was to gameplan or just personnel but getting in Young addresses a noted deficiency for the cost of nothing (or cap space) and at the very least will improve our bottom 6 of the first 22.
Goldsack is a very very important player that is easily in our best 22, wish we had three goldsacks actually! one as a defensive forward, one as a half backer that takes the kick ins and another goldsack on a wing for run and carry spread and kicking into the fwd 50

just listened to Walsh interview from this morning. there is no doubt.....they are done and dusted. Close the thread!

After Listened to it I got the Same Feeling Snoop

If we get a best 22 on the park then I can see on of him, Maxwell or O'Brien getting squeezed out for balance, even though individually they would all be best 22. It's just a balance thing.

For starters Get screwed!
Secondly you'd have to have Down syndrome if you think Yagmoor is better than T.Young
And last of all they're both ******ed

Listen here champ....my cousin has Down Syndrome....its not a joke.
For starters I was saying that Williams and Yagmoor would go past Buckley.
Nothing about Yagmoor being better than Young.
I think T. Young is a dud....simple.

So your argument is invalid.

Clearly I'm not ******ed because I comprehend what most people on big footy post (some are very difficult to at times) and I don't go calling people Moronic without understanding their comments.

Reading this direct from the club, it clearly contradicts media speculation that we are finished this trade period.

Never Say Never............
Spot on.
I can't see why the club would release an article like this if Walshe/s comments on the radio were 100% legit.

We all need to stop trying to read between the lines of everyones (walsh and Co.) comments and leave the dodgy speculation to Jon Ralph and the other twits in the media. Until Young says "Im staying put" or Collingwood say "we are not pursuing Young", it aint over. Just wait and see....

Has anything of note or any new information been posted in the last 20 pages?

Just chill lads.

I wish trade week was 1 week long, I love the excitement that it brings the last two days. This has just gone for too long IMO.

2 weeks is fine.

What the AFL need to do is separate out the free agency period with the trade period.

Im sure a few clubs are not willing to do some deals simply because they have no clue what their compo picks are for players lost.

Separate the two, have teams know which picks they receive for lost free agents, in which teams know what they can deal without any repercussion or any pending deals negating the quality of the compensation pick received.

I say get rid of the compo for free agency. In the end it will balance out and the compo is making teams not even fight for their players.

In time, i think it will go.

For me, it was a phasing type process, in which the compo pick idea was included to have the smaller teams who may lose marquee guys, buy into the whole free agency process.

I agree though, do away with it.

My bet is he'll make his decision in the next two days.:p

Sorry, couldn't resist, no one here, or in the media knows anymore about what's going on in the "Young case" than what we already know, and that is that it has come down to Collingwood vs Hawthorn for his services, and he is deliberating on that decision as we speak and will make up his mind in the next 2 days.

At the moment I'd have the odds 70/30 that he stays a Hawk.

If we get him, good, if not, not a big loss.

You summed it up very well Matty

FWIW I think Toovey and Goldsack are close to being the 1st guys picked each week.

Coaches just love these guys who can come in and do everything asked of them week in week out. They get no where near the kudos deserved and the're the type of guys it seems who don't go chasing the applause's.

Yes I'll cop shit over this as they're not the type most of these 16 year old keyboard warriors idolize but our structure at times is built around these guys roles.

More love to them i say!

Oh and TradeDraft Chillax dude! Just wait and see............

I reckon have FA the week before the trade period. Maybe even hand out the compo picks before the trade period starts, this way they can use them in trades? I imagine it would also cut back on clubs doing trades to keep their compo picks if FA and trading aren't running simultaneously. Either way it definitely does need some refinement.

if collingwood's offer wasn't still on the table to him wouldn't he just resign because he's stated he aint leaving vic and essendon don't want him?, am i to believe our offer is still on the table or not? im really confused now
