Had a good look at the young bloke yesterday and while he appears a solid player, he has some obvious deficencies .. For one, his foot skills are quite limited and he appears slow in his decision making, cumbersome even ..

Maybe, he's not quite the 'tragic' loss we think he is, but he's only 20 .. I dunno, something about him tells me he's not the second coming of Glen(n) Jakovich .. Perhaps a classier Greg Strachan. :p

PS, did anyone see Fox Footy's 'From the vault' last week and catch the Winners from 1984 .. Rich played Melbourne and lost .. great names, great memories .. Peart, Annear, Stewart, Walsh .. Plus Mike Patterson was interviewed post match and was filthy.. maybe contributed to his stroke some 18 years hence..?

I spoke to david cloke at the club 80 dinner & he seems rather happy with jason's progress.
He also said that he belives that his 2 other sons could be better than jason.
Does'nt know wheather they will get to Richmond though.:D :p :)

I mentioned some time back that I thought Cloke may have been carried by the good form of the overall Collingwood side. He really may end up being just another Prestiagiacomo (who was a round 1 draft pick?) or Mark Richardson who would have to be the worst compere off all those on the Fox Footy Club Corners!

I tried finding where I had said that, but found that the comment was directed at Steve McKee!

Gotta agree with you there Pat on J Cloke ...

At the moment he's pretty much playing the loose man across half back i.e. the easiest position on the field to play.

He's not such a great kick.

He is not particularly athletic, nor does his build suggest he is in any danger of becoming that way.

He's relatively tough, but not at the Archer/Kellaway level.

Just where will he improve that would make him any better than he is at the moment??

Let's reconvene on the J Cloke issue in ten years and see how right we were ....

Not sure but did we use the pick to get coghlan????

Cloke will turn out to be a mistake. Do we have any youngsters who have been dominate so early in their career? No. He would of been a cheaper option than Holland, who remember has only had one good season in 6 and is on big dollars. We could of good Kane Johnston for him, it makes you cry.

have you noticed where the pies have played cloke this year?
a loose man in defence.. hell id be a star if i was to play under those circumstances.

granted holland has had only one and a half good years oddly enough dont you think those years has been when he has been playing in defence.
years before that he had to contend with richo being the "man" up fwd.

Kane Johnson

I certainly won't be losing a single minutes sleep over missing Kane Johnson. I think he has gained a reputation by association, rather than any individual brilliance.

I've watched him very closely over the last couple of years ... he's not overly tough, he's vulnerable to injury, his disposal is very questionable, Ayres appears to have little faith in him in tight situations, and what's more, I've noticed how often commentators call Simon Goodwin by the name of "Johnson".

He always gets the third or fourth best tagger (after Macleod, Goodwin and Riccuito ... and now Bode and Edwards) from the opposition as well.

Now, if Simon Goodwin had of come up for trade, which would have been very doubtful, I'd be the first one jumping up and down irrationally .... he IS a gun.

Exactly right Ghost! I would take Goodwin 100 times before I thought of taking Johnson. The last thing we need is another flashy running player!

Goodwin is one of those rare players that seem to be able to both get the ball in tight and also use it well when in space.

Andrew Kellaway is still the better goalkeeper though! :D
