so the media thinks Bucks... Matthews... Longmire... Hinkley... Williams... and Hardwick appear to be at the top of the list... yet in recent appointments the coach has not been what the media has placed high on the list... see Clarkson Bailey and Lyon... so outside this group of six... who is left???

Blighty springs to mind pretty quick... prodigal son returns...
Simmo...
one of the assistants...
Pagan one more time on the carousel...
Ayres... crikey I hope not...
Rawlings you never know...

any thoughts???

Perhaps we could save some money and get someone who is coaching in the WAFL or SANFL? I know that perception is part of the selling point of these gigs (hence why this is pretty much tongue in cheek), but anyone who's heard Gerald Fitzgerald coach would know that he could do the actual coaching. Maybe a Shane Woewodin, who seems to turn out more afl draftees than you can poke a stick at, or Adam Sanders who coaches Launceston who is the highest acredited coach in Tassie?

I had a dream ... that Blight returned, membership hit 40,000, we played 10 Friday night games at the G, Jesse W won the Brownlow, H the Norm Smith and we beat Geelong by a point in the GF.

Blighty - yes.
Simpson - not yet, maybe assistant.
One of the assistants - No, time for a fresh face as top man.
Pagan - Would be a backwards step. Too old anyway.
Ayres - No.
Rawlings - Perhaps.

If we're serious about Matthews, we should give Blight some thought also IMO.

I'd prefer Pagan again to Blight. And I'd prefer Simpson to Rawlings.

I wish we would hurry up and sign Bucks to end all this speculation though

Connolly and Daniher?

You have to be kidding.

Pagan and Blight are not going to happen either.

As I said my top 3 choices would be:

Buckley
Williams
Connolly

I never mentioned about wanting Daniher but this thread is about Coaches from left field and Daniher is one.

I just think Connolly would be a better coach 2nd time around than all of the untried coaches (Buckley the exception).

Just an opinion but once again people are quick to jump on and criticise without actually reading what's written correctly.

I'm still saying Archer.

He was highly endorsed by Gary Lyon on Footy Classified this week and was on the panel to review Laidley.

Not surer Glenn is anywhere near ready to coach an AFL team. has said all along its not his go although a recent chat he did say he was looking more and more at coaching in some form.

Would make a great assistant to Bucks!

*sigh* Just name them all then, you can't be half pregnant:

Ken Judge
Robert Shaw
John Cahill
Robert Pyman
Tim Watson
Stan Alves
Ron Barassi (get us back into it, like he did in Sydney 1993)
Terry Wallace
Graham Cornes
Robert Walls
David Parkin
Tim Watson
Danny Frawley
Shaun Rehn
Darren Bewick
Wayne Brittain
Donald McDonald
Terry Wheeler
Jeff Gieschen
Peter Schwab

Sheesh.. If my typing fingers could have a grog bog, that would surely be it. That list is one ugly m0fa.

1. Guy McKenna
2. Wayne Carey = Smokey :thumbsu
3. James Hird
4. Kevin Sheedy

I don't know why i want it, and i have no real basis for my thinking, but I would like to see a fresh face to coaching take over the reins at North. Bluey McKenna would fit the model nicely as would Damien Hardwick, and i wouldn't be disappointed if Buckley got the gig like many others have suggested.

I remember reading Gary Lyon's article re the Richmond job where he stated that they should try and get McKenna. His contract at GCFC is only until the end of next year, and he is not guaranteed the top job once they are introduced to the competition. He has served an apprenticeship under Malthouse (hangon that sounds a bit too familiar) and would already have an in depth knowledge of the potential draftees for the next 2 years. Maybe there is a window of opportunity to steal him from them??
