You can argue that CA treated him badly, and you can make the case that he should have been retained... but claiming that he did NOTHING to lose his job is revisionist history. His coaching style has been subject to criticism for awhile now, and he got formal feedback that he needed to dial down his intensity and improve his player-management skills. Giving Nathan Ellis a bake for wearing a wrist-watch while substitute fielding, or banning Marnus Labuschange from eating toasted sandwiches come off as petty and stupid. But there's been several reports of end-of-series reviews where Langer's coaching style was given substantive criticism... not just from the players but everyone involved with the squads. His current predicament is a almost a certainly a result of his changes being too little, too late, or a bit of both.

Who has claimed he did nothing to lose his job?
It's obvious he has some man management problems.

Why the hell would you sack Langer after one bad series, that makes no sense at all. Wasnt bad coaching that lost us that series. This is the best Oz team since the great team fell away even if weve had better line ups since

Did anyone hear Ian Chappell on the radio yesterday? Talk about an angry and irrelevant man.

He said the Australian team doesn't need a coach. Why? Because in his day (and Ian admitted he started playing 60 years ago1!) if you had any issues you'd just discuss them with your colleagues. In his mind all the coach needs to do is ensure the team has enough balls and bats.

He said Langer was an average batsman and average coach who cannot take any credit for the team success in 2021/2022.

He believes Cricket Australia is a useless entity, which is probably a fair assessment.

He said any issues between the players and Langer were solely and wholly on Langer.

Take most of what Ian Chappell has had to say over the past 30 years with a huge grain of salt. He’s turned into a bigger misery guts than Neil Harvey did. Such is his entrenched views on the uselessness of a coach at elite levels that it is impossible to get a proper, impartial analysis from him.

He holds monumental grudges against lots of past players, and every time he comments on an issue he’s coming in with coloured, biased, rigid viewpoint. Shane Warne is fast heading down the same road.

The reason Cummins is now under pressure as captain for mine isnt for what he has done, but for what he hasnt done.
In the same way that in SA when the tampering happened Smith may not have told them to do it, but he wasnt strong enough to stop them. No one would have done that under Steve Waugh without his permission

Same goes for Cummins here, he may not have knifed the coach but when the team and the coach needed a leader he was completely non committal which shows to me a weakness as captain.

What you're missing Richard, is that most people, like myself, are not upset that he's been replaced, it's the way it was handled.

CA have come out of this looking like dicks.

What about the constant shots at Pat Cummins for being 'woke' (a term that most users obviously don't understand the meaning of...) and a backstabber, the suggestions that the players are too soft, 'inmates are running the asylum', etc?

Here, twitter, newspaper articles... the players, and Cummins especially, are copping a lot shit.

He didn’t have to it’s not his job to be lovey dovey with the coach. His statements were fine, CA can deal with it.

I agree he should have been booted after that shocking Indian series.

But in refusing to endorse Langer it looks like Cummins knifed him. As for CA dealing with it, look how well they have handled this crisis

He was incredibly hard though and demanded the absolute best from his players in every facet of their lives.

That is arguably Langer's biggest problem, players need to be able to switch off and chill out.

Having your coach rant at you about small things on a long tour will piss anyone off, do it for a long time and its a matter of when you get knifed not if.

I think not so much a hard ass, more moody and unpredictable, not really the traits you want in a coach, especially if you spend so much time with them in cricket.

My take is that he was the right choice possibly at the time, but now no longer is for where this current side is at.

Where is this current side at?

Flogging a putrid English side who didn't want to be here, is not an indication of a great team.

The reality is we'll go to the sub-continent and get pantsed over the next 12 months.

Either way, CA showed Langer no respect and the powers that be need to GTFO.

I also agree with Clarke, Cummins needs to come out and actually give his opinion, not some pre-prepared answer.

He may hold grudges but he still has bothem rated in his top all rounders of all time and he and beefy even managed to do some commetry together, he also rates Kim Hughes 100 at the g against the Windies as one of the best knocks he's seen. So he doesn't let his grudges get involved with his comments.

Langer's average was pretty poor until he opened, and where there was no Akram, Ambrose, Walsh, Donald, Younis etc to face, he was our best bat though in the 05 ashes, but he's behind Taylor, Slater and boon for openers, but in front of Warner that I've seen

The problem I see was that Langer wanted to be an AFL style coach, that's in charge of everything, not a cricket coach. In some respects he's had too, Paine had no idea about field placings or tactics to win a game, there was never a plan b, for their fields or tactics by bowlers.

We now have Pat Cummins, and I think it's fair he works with a coach that he gets along with and trusts and let's Pat execute more on the field.

I think Langer was given a reprieve 12 months ago to finish his contract, and he won the ashes back and T20 and wanted more

McDonald doesn't want the job, and Ponting won't get it if he wants it because he has been critical of CA over this.

I'd counter that best Oz team since the 06 era by saying that it's the worst era of test cricket as long as a i can remember.
