The rumours of Lyon coaching have been floating around since he coached the international team. From reading many a post in this forum I get the impression that Mr. Gary Lyon is not very popular with the Collingwood faithful. However I am the exception. He seems to be one of the most informed and intelligent football personalities going around. I'm not saying we should sack malthouse for Lyon- far from it. But it's not looking good for MM and if it had to happen Lyon really should be in consideration.
If you don't think he should coach the pies would he be a successful coach somewhere else? Where?

That was a great success, NOT
Lyon coaching the Australia team was a success i think he coached 4 times for 2 wins 2 losses also they won the series down here in australia which that hasnt been done for a while.

They were embarassing last start. You would expect better than 2/2 when a bunch of superfit professionals play against a mob of ammos. Lyon is not a coach.

Yep, he has a fantastic coaching record.
First he took the Australian team to Ireland and they got beat.

Then there is ........... um........ hang on I'll think of something.
Nope that's about it.

Compared to MM and neither you nor I have the time to go through his vast coaching record.

I'm going to say only one thing plz think about it before bagging me
Mick can tell the players what to do to win the game but it is up to the players to follow the instructions set out

...... in his commentary, he surely does show a liking towards the Pies.
He makes a handsome, stress-free living sitting with Eddie on Friday nights. Mostly at Collingwood games. Why would he jeopardise that?

Exactly, and why would anyone bag you for putting it so acurately and succinctly.
Keep posting, you are one of the few who actually understand the issue

He tends to say I told you so a lot. That should count for something.

When is everybody going to realise its not Malthouse, we could have the Worlds best footy coach and it wouldnt make a diff. I have three words, REBUILD REBUILD REBUILD.

Exactly, you would think that people who claim to have a good understanding of Football would be able to see that.

As soon as things go bad they fail to analyse the situation properly and go for the tired old line of 'Sack the Coach'.

Ron Barrassi, Tom Hafey and Alan Jeans combined couldn't do any more with the group we have got than MM has/is.

It is sillyness in the extreme.

MM will be there until 2006 after that his position will be reviewed just as eveyone, who comes out of contract, is.

I suspect he will be re-appointed.

Look at some of the names people throw up as replacement.
They are either failed coaches, drunks or have zero ability at coaching and these people want to replacee MM with them

Get real

Paul, Would Eddie have the guts to sack Mick??
I think not, but i think Gary Lyon will end up coaching sooner or later, and in his commentary, he surely does show a liking towards the Pies.

I am asking from a genuine lack of knowledge here, but who does all the recruiting for the club?
I know that at the some clubs the coach has a big input and at others not as much. Is it Mick's fault that the list is not very impressive or should someone elses head be on the chopping block?

Too true, I doubt Lyon will ever coach an AFL side, he's too cozily entrenched in media street.
