Sad to lose Josh but he treads a very Port Adelaide path now. Josh Francou and Darren Mead have clearly whetted Norf's tastes for Alberton product.
Who replaces him as midfield coach and who coaches the Maggies are 2 separate things. But as people seem to be discussing both here the new Maggies' coach will not be a stand-alone appointment, like Buddha that person will also be one of Kenny's assistants.

Forty or so senior players retire from the AFL every year and surely there would be a few who would be suitable assistants - especially those from clubs with a recent winning culture (Hawks, Cats).

And a chance to see Ken at work, a taste of how our fitness dept and club in general operate.
Destination club after all
Whatever peoples' views on Josh I'm very glad of his showdown record and his role in unsettling Brisbane 2004

Coaching his 'own' team is better for his development and resume than coaching an AFL reserves side so the right choice in my opinion.
What will be really funny next year is, if our midfield goes further backwards next year, the Carr haters will suddenly turn into Carr lovers. Fickle.

Perhaps North has some 'benefits' to add to the salary.
While playing in the bush years ago, after a match the coach would drive home with a 'goodies box' on the back seat - side of lamb, vegies, booze etc compliments of the local farmers.

Farmers daughter ..

Undoubtedly. Gradually becoming mandatory i.e. Clarkson, Beveridge, Bolton. Then if successful return to a different AFL side as an assistant for a couple of years. Finally wait for vultures to circle over that year's senior coaches.

Be funny if Nathan Bassett coached Port. He probably can't quite come at that so straight onto the AFL panel for him.

But it does open up the Port sanfl job for some interesting permutations. For example would very good assistant coaches whose first run at a senior job didn't end well be interested in being a P-Plater at the Magpies. Names like Scott Watters, Paul Williams, Brendan McCartney and Mark Neeld come to mind. Work on their people skills and stay involved in the AFL system by supporting Ken.

Or grab one of the up and comers in the U18 system.

It could be a handy lure to a quality applicant.

Or a player coach? Would the SANFL go for that? :D

Brendan McCartney's nose and Mark Neeld's twitch would just be too much for me

Josh Carr was an underrated player. Could do with a player of his type now. Tough but also skilful, loved a challenge and oozed confidence.

Why not Clayton who is coaching the academy and doing a brilliant job.
Academy are doing really well, that's true:) Are there any more Grays hiding in the Academy team? I know Tom was upgraded to Magpies this year. Imagine Gray quadruplets in the Power team. Gray to Gray to Gray to...Gray.

Should I be surprised that sanfl clubs can still afford to pay afl assistant coaches to head their own program?

Mark Clayton as the league coach? North, Norwood, South, and Port have employed people with afl credentials to head their coaching programs.

So is Hocking truly not coaching the Magpies next year? Cause he's denied that.

Still think we should sound out Jarrad Schofield for the Magpies role. He's had a great few years as head coach of Subiaco in the WAFL.

Get him on a two year contact with a guaranteed AFL assistants position after that if he's done a good job. Which is basically what Buddha got in the end.
